DDA Chapter 22

Good morning, DDA!

Four weeks from today we will be on a plane!

Well. That was annoying. I gave the nurse the bottle of Motrin and the permission forms. She accepted everything without even batting an eye. I was all geared up for a battle. What a let-down.

I hate when I'm all geared up for a battle and poof! nothing.

OMG all I have to do is make it through work today.

And I've decided, that I can't be laptop-less for 9 days so she goes with me!! I'll just lug her through the MCO airport. My local airport going down will be a snap. But 9 days with no computer, trying to see everything on the iPhone is just nuts.

I go to Disney tomorrow!!!!!

I am so excited for you! I can't wait to hear all about your trip!

YAY!!! Have a FABULOUS trip!!

So we met all of DS's teachers. He is going to be toast in Algebra. I told him to just stay there for the first 6 weeks, then we'll move him. I think the other classes will be OK.

In English he is going to read "Big Fish". I LOVED the movie (go figure) so I want to read the book now. They might read "To Kill a Mockingbird" and "The Glass Menagerie". One of the scenes from his theater camp was from Menagerie but it wasn't his scene. I have never read either of those books. Guess I should go buy all 3 and read them. Then we can discuss. If DS is good maybe I will rent Big Fish so we can compare the book to the movie.

In Theater she said the high school is doing Beauty & the Beast and our kids can audition if they want, but practice starts in like a week and will be a HUGE time commitmen, so he may not do that. The middle school play will be "Into the Woods" which I know nothing about. She said it's a musical. Hello? My kid can't sing. She said if nobody can sing it becomes a play.

Same parents we see all the time. We followed each other from room to room. It's a good group. Of course by the time we got to the electives there were only a handful of parents in those rooms, but overall I think it was a successful evening. The principal said we have 1066 kids. I hope they get some more teachers in there because some of the classes have 30+ kids in them.

Guess what? Time to make my ADRs!!

Big Fish sounds great, and that is now on my reading list. I remember enjoying Glass Menagerie, but it's been a long time since I read it.

30+ kids in a class is difficult! I know that Laura had some close to that in middle school. Our elementary classes are capped at 30 by teacher contract, but they try to keep them smaller, if possible. Last year there were only two sections of fifth grade, and they were getting close to 30 each. Miles class is big enough that they needed three classes, but small enough that they will have just under 20 each. They don't want to start the year with completely full classes in case we have kids move in.

They do help me some when I'm at my worst, though they don't make me completely better. It's the best I'll do, though, since I'm not heading to a doctor any time soon.

I've tried the generic equivalents of both Claritin and Zyrtec. The Zyrtec left me feeling very odd and very sleepy. The Claritin definitely helped with the eyes and nasal congestion and lessened (though didn't completely relieve) the hives.

And "Into the Woods" is Sondheim. Not all the parts are singing, either! It is an extension, if you will, of a few Brothers Grimm tales. Not fairy tale like at all, as it explores the consequences of some well-know characters' choices in life. It is good. It is different. It is Sondheim.

Hmm. I guess we'll see if he decides to audition!

Big Fish sounds great, and that is now on my reading list. I remember enjoying Glass Menagerie, but it's been a long time since I read it.

30+ kids in a class is difficult! I know that Laura had some close to that in middle school. Our district has what they call "leveling". The principals basically turn in reports of how many kids are enrolled and how big the classes are. If another school has really low numbers they will move some of those teachers to our school to even it out. The problem is they don't do that until October. The art teacher said she has like 36 kids in one of her classes, and there are 38 in one of the drama classes. DS has both art and drama, but not the periods that have so many people in them.

No!! But I would love to. I teach their arrangements of Christmas songs to some of my more advanced students. And some of them have seen them in concert. I understand they are great!

and i just found out it looks like skydiving is 99% "a go" tomorrow! The weather looks gorgeous!!We are apparently meeting at a firehouse at 10 and need to be there for training by noon. So im starting to get n ervous, but it is tomorrow hahaha

Oh, I would! They are in Richmond and DC again this year, but their concert dates are during the week when I can't go.

The drama teacher was talking about trying to take the kids to see "Mary Poppins" at the Music Hall. I am not sure she will be able to pull that together. The tickets are expensive, and the show is opening in, like, a minute.

Princess keeps telling Momboss she wants to go, but she is TERRIFIED of the children's theater. There is NO WAY she is ready for the Music Hall. I also think the show would be too long for her.

I go the pre-purchase code from Disney Visa, but I didn't think we were going. maybe I need to look again. I would like to take DS if the drama teacher can't swing a field trip.
