DDA Chapter 22

I have been a busy girl this morning. After reading on the Fireworks Buffet thread about the conflict with DDP and booking that thing, I called back. I still could not get our first choice of dates, but I was able to book October 5 so I grabbed it.

I also booked 4 wine seminars and the Warren Brown/Mary Myers "Cake Love" culinary demnstration/wine presentation for myself. myBob won't go so these are just for me!

Yea for getting the party booked, hope you enjoy it!

No really. Tarts. ;)

We were there on a Spectro night. You could see the tops of the floats when they came around the castle hub, but that was really about it. I'm glad you got something! What was the conflict you referred to about the DDP and the dessert party?

No, I meant cake at her F&W seminar. ;) I know there is no cake at the dessert party. That was a disappointment. I agree about Spectro. You can't see it very well, but you can kind of see the floats.

Apparently, and this is hearsay, the dining program that WDW uses hangs onto the fact that you are or are not on the DDP. If you are, some items don't some up on their screen when they look for availability. There is a box they can uncheck. Or so I have been reading. :confused3

I read that, too. And "unchecking" the DDP box seemed to fix availability for a lot of folks. :confused3

DS's schedule is mostly fixed. The problem is how to get one more semester of PE credit when PE is not offered during the period he has open. :headache: The counselor said we will worry about it later. Fair enough. His revised schedule starts Monday, with Art and Drama instead of PE and ROTC. Drama may not make him happy, but it was LITERALLY the only choice unless he wanted to re-take the computer class he nearly failed last year. Which really ticks me off. They should have LEFT HIM in PE all year last year and put him in Computer Apps. this year. Oh, well. Too late!

glad to hear it is somewhat fixed. Did they change his math time?

Elizabeth - Sounds like a manageable change. I hope drama isn't too bad for him. Glad everything is straightened out though!

And I didn't clarify either. We get cake with Warren Brown and I get Bob at Spectro and Wishes. Kristin and I honestly cannot remember the last time he went back to the MK for either of those. It has been years.... maybe a decade!

I just persuaded him to try a "Spirit Seminar" presented by the Beam Distillery! We both love Bourbon so this was one I thought I could talk him into. Off to book it!

Elizabeth - sounds like C's schedule is pretty well fixed. I think he ought to be happy too.

Beth - Glad to hear Matthew is getting things worked out. It sounds like the counselor had a good suggestion. Even if some is repeat he can hone up on it and won't get overwhelmed right off the bad by starting at the higher levels. Hope the swimming issues resolve soon! (And that DH doesn't have a heart attack over the fee increases.)
Thanks! I think it is probably good that he makes sure that his knowledge of the subject is the same that the professors there expect. I am fairly certain that he would have been able to fit into Calc II and Chem II very easily. He does really know the material well, but it's hard to be sure of that when someone is telling you otherwise. Plus I think it's good to have it a little easier when adjusting to a new way of life.

Beth - I am glad Matthew is settlin in well. Will he get credit for the Calc and Chem classes? Did they give him 3-6 credits already based on his AP scores?
I don't really know what happens with those AP credits now. They had originally given him the credits, but since he is taking the courses, I don't know if those credits are just forgotten. He was actually given credit for Chem I and II and could have gone straight into Organic Chemistry. He also had AP credits for a writing course, American History, Economics and a computer science course that he will be using. His AP Physics didn't count for anything, because it wasn't calc-based physics, but I think it's good that he'll have some extra physics knowledge going in. I just hope that he doesn't get into bad study habits if he doesn't need to work as hard in these classes.

Beth Firefox was horrid when I installed Skype, I finally got rid of it. Actually it made my computer run terribly slow. Do you have the Skype logo on your upper toolbar(not sure what to call it)? If so once you get rid of that extension it will help. If I remember correctly I went into tools & then add ons & disabled it.

Hope that made sense lol
Yes, that makes sense. Matthew told me to disable that (he already has on his computer), but I haven't done it yet. There have been a couple of weird things with the browser but nothing major.

Yay for a mostly fixed schedule! :woohoo: Laura can't wait for her schedule to come, and I have my fingers crossed that it is all right. Last year they didn't put her into honors Global Studies, and the honors class was full by the time we received the schedule. Not a huge deal, but annoying. They actually had her in a class for kids that needed extra help. The teacher was the same as she had the year before and really tried to get her into the honors class but couldn't. She did have her moved to a regular class, though. Somehow they didn't get Matthew into AP Goverment either, and he had to take PIG (Participation in Government) instead. Again, not a huge deal, but it would have been nice to get the AP credit for that.

Miles received his supply list and teacher assignment yesterday. He was hoping for one of the other teachers, but he is happy with the one that he got. Most of the supply list was what I was anticipating, so we don't have much more to buy.

They did. Math moved from 5th to 3rd, which was what I asked them to do in the first place.

Elizabeth - Sounds like a manageable change. I hope drama isn't too bad for him. Glad everything is straightened out though!

You know, we PAY for him to take theater classes. :rotfl2: And it is just one semester. Hopefully he will have fun.

YAY for more fun stuff!

The school scheduling is an overall mess. The counselor said for 6th period they have 50-60 8th graders and no slots for them. DS has advanced Band 6th period, so not an issue for us. As far as I knew there was never any such thing as "study hall", but it sounds like they have created one for all the kids who have no elective for 3rd period. They go sit out in a portable with a coach until 4th period. Apparently there are still kids who have NO schedule. Apparently there are kids in the custody of Child & Family Services as well as homeless kids who have to be dealt with. So obviously the counselors are struggling. BUT, on the OTHER HAND, my child was properly enrolled and filled out a course selection sheet last year that I had to sign. ROTC was never mentioned on that sheet. Putting him in there and NOT asking for parental permission was NOT a good idea.

I am not sure what his 2nd semester will look like because they do not offer PE 5th OR 7th period, and those are the slots that will open up at the semester change. It makes me sick to think we would have to move him back to 5th period math to accommodate a PE class. :sad2: Talk about asinine. But really, like the counselor said, we will worry about that next semester.

I am sorry things are such a mess, but really, had I waited, the slots DS got for Art and Drama would have been gone. I think he got the last open slot for both of those classes.

Ironically, the MANDATORY computer class they pulled him out of PE for last year has slots open. Had they left him in PE last year and put him in Computer this year we wouldn't have so many issues to work around because he would have all of his PE credits. Now he has to have a semester of Dance, PE, or ROTC or he has to play a sport in Spring. He doesn't WANT to play a sport. This should be interesting. :rolleyes1

I'm glad that I took a little break from the much-needed, long overdue, will be over no time soon cleaning. What a gorgeous resort, and I can see why you still have a smile on your face! You also do not look like you are anywhere near your 40th birthday.

Beth I think I love you

Awesome Deb, looks like you both a wonderful time!

Gary has mentioned doing something like this, maybe someday I can take him up on that :thumbsup2

If you get the chance you should definitely do it :thumbsup2

Chris and I were suprised by how many people stopped us to ask us if we were on our honeymoon :rotfl: They said we looked too happy to have been married 17 years :rotfl::rotfl:

Deb,
What beautiful pictures!!! No wonder you were still smiling 4 days after your romantic getaway...how cool are those beds on the beach?????!!!!!!

They were pretty cool. It seemed that the same people occupied them each day. We preferred the pool so we had chairs under an umbrella up there. Much closer to the bar :thumbsup2
