DDA Chapter 20

I just heard that there are two confirmed cases of Swine Flu in Virginia. I am assuming that our National Concert in New Jersey is still on for this weekend. We haven't heard anything to the contrary.

It is time for bed. I have to rethink my packing since the weather in NJ looks to be vastly different than what I had originally thought. I don't want to have to check a bag, so I am hoping I can mix and match a bit.

See you all in the morning!

We're back from Pinewood Derby. Jacob didn't win, but he had a great time! He's such a good sport, it makes me so proud of him!

I had a small panic attack this morning due to the swine flu. I think we're all entitled to feel nervous about this thing. I went through our emergency supplies, and we are looking in good shape. When I went shopping today, I stocked up on Immodium, toilet paper, Gatorade and Pedialyte. I also picked up the new anti-viral tissues that Kleenex makes.

We are all set for emergency food and water. We have enough in the house to last us a good 9-10 months if we're careful.

I think that going through all of that, and really seeing that I'm doing all that I can to make the situation as "normal" as possible for my family made me feel much better.

Alan spoke to our doctor, and will be going to get a pneumonia shot tomorrow. With his weak lungs, I've been worried about what a bout with the flu would do to him. He's going to speak to the doctor about Leslie, since she has inherited his weak lungs. After all of that, we've got to just use common sense and try not to get too overwhelmed.

Good night, my friends! I hope you all sleep well!

Good morning. :)

We are staying in Paramus and the concert is at Fairleigh Dickinson University in Teaneck. I remember you telling me that this was about an hour or more from you so I didn't pursue it any further. I arrive tomorrow morning about 10:15 and leave Monday about 10:30 with lots of stuff going on in between. The concert isn't until 4:00 on Sunday so I figured even if you had chosen to come to that it would have been really late Sunday before you could get back home.

So... I figured it was not going to work out this time. :sad1:

Chuck's mom went back in the hospital yesterday. Her heart was racing again. She is still in there as they are monitoring her.
Hope she is doing better this morning.

And you didn't call me?!:rolleyes1;)
I wanted to!!! We got there so early in the morning that I would have felt terrible waking you up to come meet us. :flower3:

She did. We all went to IHOP for dinner and then rushed to Nicholas' soccer game. I'm not at all happy with his coach this year. At what point do we stop becoming a nation of pacifiers? If a team gets creamed 0-5, and they haven't scored a single goal in the last 3 games, should you STILL be patting them all on the back saying "good job?" These kids need to COACHED, have their egos pumped up. Yes, they need encouragement and praise, but they also need to be told when they suck so they strive to be better.

Afterwards we came back here for more cake and birthday presents. Nicholas got her a Pucci Pet and I got her the new Jonas Brothers CD. I guess she was pleased, as there was a lot of shreiking and jumping around as she opened them both. ;)
That's so cute.

Why didn't you call???
We got there so early I didnt want to bug you guys. :flower3:

I'm sorry Kristine. I hope whatever it is, that they caught it in time. Sending lots of prayers her way. :wizard:

Kristine, I hope your mom is doing better today!

Lots of :wizard: for her too!

Vicki, I hope your MIL is better today, too!

I'm not so much panicked about catching it, I'm more panicked about how I'm going to handle it if school and daycare close. I burned a ton of leave with Alyssa being sick earlier this year. I don't want to have to burn more because someone else is sick!

I am lucky that if the schools close I can just bring DS to work with me. So far Ft. Worth seems to be the only city that is completely UNGLUED. I am not the least bit worried. I will be MAD if I get it, but that's about it. The mayor of Arlington (where SixFlags is) said they aren't closing the park, or the baseball stadium, or the schools because right now it isn't necessary.

Loved Sophie's pictures, Anne Marie!

Janet - for you and  for Gary.

Elizabeth - the school system reaction sounds a littls bass ackwards to me!

Janet, I hope Gary's tests come back OK!

Elin, really Dallas hasn't cancelled anything except school on one campus where there was a confirmed case. Everything else is business as usual. Princess and I have Nanny Breakfast this morning and Dadboss said it's fine for us to go.

And I just got a pin code. My first ever. For DisneyLAND this summer.

We got some sort of mailer for DL awhile back. NOTHING for WDW.

Ha! I got 2 pins codes. One in my home email and one at work!

Fine. That's just fine. :rolleyes1

Happy Birthday, Jennifer! :)

Good Morning, DDA!!!!

I only have 2 kids today! And one of those plus Mo will leave right before noon for school! Maybe just maybe I'll get my cake website up today.

The more I think about this swine flu, the more confused I get. Ok, so it originates from pigs. Usually it is a pig to pig virus, but then people catch it. It transmits from person to person. People get sick. The symptoms are the same as influenza. Every winter we have hundreds of kids out sick from CONTAGIOUS influenza. Life, school, etc. go on as normal, with several kids missing. ONE PERSON, out of millions, gets the swine flu and the world comes to a screeching halt! What am I missing?????
