okay with this economy I am thinking of trying to start a garden. any one have suggestions of good things to grow?
Well, the obvious answer would be "grow what you will eat." Alan puts in a garden every spring. We call it our "salsa" garden. We do tomatoes, peppers (green, jalapeno, etc), onions. We'll also plant squash, cucumbers and carrots. We've tried green beans, but they didn't do so well.
Do you plan on canning what you grow? If you do, make sure you have the appropriate equipment for it. Most vegetables require pressure canning. Tomatoes don't; you can use a boiling water bath for that.
We've tried growing most things, but really have settled on only the things the kids will eat. Because we can our produce, there's really no point having bottles of beets when I know the kids won't eat them.
