DDA Chapter 17

okay with this economy I am thinking of trying to start a garden. any one have suggestions of good things to grow?

Well, the obvious answer would be "grow what you will eat." Alan puts in a garden every spring. We call it our "salsa" garden. We do tomatoes, peppers (green, jalapeno, etc), onions. We'll also plant squash, cucumbers and carrots. We've tried green beans, but they didn't do so well.

Do you plan on canning what you grow? If you do, make sure you have the appropriate equipment for it. Most vegetables require pressure canning. Tomatoes don't; you can use a boiling water bath for that.

We've tried growing most things, but really have settled on only the things the kids will eat. Because we can our produce, there's really no point having bottles of beets when I know the kids won't eat them.

Well actually I had just popped over to photobucket and was deleting a picture when I got notice from Avast that there was a problem. Thing is I have never had trouble deleting a picture before. Hope you can figure out your computer problem. :wizard:

Really? I had one recently and never figured out where it came from. Today the computer has been acting funny when I close the DIS - the screen goes white and it just stays like that. Crap! Guess I will run a scan!

Last nights dinner, today's lunch and dinner is chinese. All from the same meal, boy do they give you a lot of food.

Speaking of chinese food, do they sell any at Disney? where? and is it any good?

Before they did the refurb we ate at Nine Dragons at Epcot & I thought it was pretty good. Also at Epcot there is CS at Lotus Blossom Cafe & Sunshine Seasons(this is in The Land near Soaring). These were not to bad as well.

Part of the reason is that you have boys and most Moms don't sew for their boys. Now, we have DDA-ers that make everything for their kids, including PJs for all but I think overall, most sewing is done for little girls.

Now I feel better :goodvibes

Thanks Janet.

Great. Well, I am at work now. I left the scan running on my desk top. I was on both the DIS and PhotoBucket on both my desk top and my laptop today. Joy, joy. :rolleyes:

DH came home today with the knee ripped out of his pants. He said he thinks I should cut them off and hem them into shorts for him. We both had a good laugh! :lmao:

Chinese food at WDW - DH likes that Noodle Station at MK but it is hardly ever open.
The CS Chinese place at Epcot isn't bad, but we have only tried a couple of things there. Nine Dragons (the TS at Epcot) always got bad reviews, but I haven't heard much since they reopened. :confused3
Yak & Yeti is not really Chinese, but we liked their food.

I just called DH. He said the desk top is finished scanning and didn't find any Trojan viruses. It didn't find any viruses at all. Hopefully there aren't any that it missed!

I don't sew or really crochet and I have girls.....hmmm. Blew Elin's theory:lmao:

Not really, Theresa... my theory is that most Moms who do sew have girls. Not all Moms! You are off the hook! :rotfl2:

I just made an interesting casserole for dinner. I think I will tinker with the recipe the next time. It is from Paula Deen and is served at Lady and Sons in Savannah, on their buffet. It says it will feed 4-6. Wellllll.... I put it in a 9-inch square pan AND TWO 7x11-inch pans. We had the 9-inch square pan tonight and there is enough left over for a lunch next week for Bob. So we have two more dinners and two more lunches that will go into the freezer.

I used a commercial chicken base dissolved in water instead of the bouillon cube. There is less sodium and we like the taste better. Also, I did not put in the onions because we don't like them; I did use about a teaspoon of onion powder for the flavor. It was a little bland, but we all liked it. I might try finely diced shallots next time and would probably add white pepper too. I used smoked sausage but I bet it would be good with pepperoni or chorizo too! We all three agreed this would be a fairly inexpensive dish for a pot luck dinner.

A word of warning... this is a huge, heavy amount of food. I mixed it in my 12-quart stockpot after I drained the pasta. It was HEAVY! I had to have Kristin come to help me get it into the pans.

Three Meat Pasta

Ingredients

* 1 pound angel hair pasta
* 2 cups cooked chicken, off the bone
* 2 cups cooked sausage, cut 1/2-inch thick
* 2 cups cooked ham, cubed
* 1 large yellow onion, chopped
* 2 cups Cheddar cheese, shredded
* 16 ounces cottage cheese
* 8 ounces sour cream
* 3 chicken bouillon cubes
* 1 cup hot water
* 1 to 2 cups Parmesan cheese, grated

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

In a large pot, boil salted water for angel hair pasta. When cooked, drain and set aside.

In a large bowl mix together the chicken, sausage, ham, onions, cheddar cheese, sour cream and cottage cheese.

In a separate small pot, dissolve bouillon cubes with hot water and pour over the meat and pasta.

Pour mixture into a 9 by 12 by 2-inch (see note above!) greased baking dish and top with the Parmesan cheese. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes or until the bubbling around the edges.

Thank you.

That is good.

Sounds good, thanks for posting the recipe. And she has admitted on her show that her family (especially her sons) are big eaters, so that may feed just 4 people in her family.

I got my first nibble on Craigslist, for a Little People dollhouse I listed for $15. Now here is my dilemma. Should I give the money to Alyssa?
