 We don't have any gangs around here. I wouldn't know what to do with gangs around. Can you tell that we really do live in a small town. There is rarely any crime either :confused3 I don't know how you guys feel safe at all :confused3

We do not either. My kids don't even know gang signs. Apparantly there are gangs in Raleigh/ Durham though. Did I mention I really don't want to move?

If you did, I missed it! I hope this will be a good move for your family, Anne Marie. and for you! I have met some of my dearest friends because of moves.... :grouphug:

Remember back in September there was a recall on my little car? They replaced the fuel pump for me while Bob and I were in WDW. Well, since then the mileage has been horrible! I got 33-34 MPG before and now I am lucky if it is 23 MPG.

I finally got a chance to take it into them to take a look at it. They agree that it ought to be doing better. Well... we took it at 7:30 this morning and I am still waiting to hear from them! Bob will take me to work and pick me up tonight, but I hope this is not a long repair!

This made me chuckle.

Kids today just have no clue. When I went with Nicholas on his field trip last month and I was taking pictures of he and his friends, they posed and then through up their hands in a way to imitate gang signs. Um, no. Stand nicely please.

I am a little more paranoid than the average mom, but I don't let DS make any sort of hand/finger gestures because you never know how it will be interpreted. Not that I think a gang member would mistake DS for a rival, but it's just not a good habit. I KNOW there are gang members in the school, so the more info DS has the better he can avoid them. And really, they probably have no interest in him. I would like to keep it that way.

:grouphug: I know how scared you are, Robyn. I guess you could call Bob's cut in salary as a kind of furlough. And knowing that it is not necessarily the end is very troubling. I hope we all have nothing more to be concerned about. But, because you have little ones, I am especially hopeful for you.

Robyn, I didn't realize Eric relied on grants and such for funding. :scared: I really hope it turns out OK!! :wizard:

Kathrin finally had her unemployment benefits kick in at midnight last night. They deposited 6 weeks of checks in her account. She was so excited she called me. And, when she went to the dentist today to have her permanent crown "installed" she discovered that she had overpaid her portion of the fees so there will be a refund ot her credit card.

All in all some good news to brighten everyones' afternoons, I hope. :goodvibes

That IS good news! :goodvibes

We have 91 identified gangs. That's why it is a bad idea for the kids to fool around with hand gestures. There is no telling what the gestures mean.
It is kind of like sign language. One of my former charges was learning American Sign, not Babysigns. When his older brother and DS would fool around they would "make up" sign language. I would get on them because there is NO TELLING what those "made up" signs might actually mean! :scared1:
Anne Marie, I doubt your kids will be bothered by any gangs. They don't look like the type the gangs want to recruit. ;)

Ugh! I HATE car repairs! There is a recall on mine right now for an airbag sensor. I am dreading that appointment because I know it will be my ENTIRE day. :sad2:
I hope they call you soon! :wizard:

Afternoon all...

I have been reading along but still not in the best of moods. Please know that I am thinking of you and sending 's, :wizard: and :cheer2: when needed. I just don't want to bring everyone down. I am feeling the crunch of Christmas on top of everything else that is being thrown at me. The worst of which is Eric found out that he will more than likely have a furlough of up to 5 days. I know that it's pretty minimal right now but I am scared to death that it could lead to bigger things. His salary is all based on grants and federal funding so I am very scared that if the economy gets any worse those funds will be cut.

I think we are all fearing for our jobs. There is no telling what will happen with this economy. I've heard of 3 very local business that are closing their doors. I don't think that there is a region of the United States that is actually safe

:cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

I'm making progress on my present wrapping. Maybe I'll get it all done tomorrow.

:wizard: Hope the get it fixed. Also I missed your note about Kathrin..glad she got her checks.

Wow that is scary....:scared: :sad2:

So Pacific Cycle called us directly today. They wanted to make sure we got the correct product since they had heard a few people didn't. Turns out they have an entire shelf of the bicycles and an empty shelf of strollers. Sears of course hasn't been in contact with them :headache: They took it upon themself to contact all purchasers. Wow great customer service who'd a thunk it. She is sending out the bicycle today and we should have it by Wednesday. Fed Ex will pick up the stroller tomorrow. I tried unsuccessfully to talk Sears into calling the distributor. Can you imagine how much easier it would have been for all involved. So provided that the bicycle does indeed come I think we are all set :cool1:

I'm so glad you got it all worked out (knock on wood). We had a horrible time at Sears last Saturday. The gal who took our family pictures, really tried to up-sell us. We understand that, but when she finally realized that we didn't want the 399.00 package, she got snarky and rude. Alan later talked to her manager and complained about her lack of people skills.

That's why we moved to Alpine. We wanted to get away from the gangs. Now, the worst thing we have to deal with is the "popular" crowd and the "unpopular". I'd much rather deal with that!

Glynis, I am so sorry. I forgot to put these up last week when we got them. :sad2:

Mo's ornament and stash from Leslie. She absconded very quickly with the pencils and note pads!! She loves her ornament!! Thank you!!!!!

Lucy's ornament and stash from Katie. Lucy's eyes lit up when she saw Rocket!! Thank you

You are most welcome! I had never seen the Mickey pasta in a regular grocery store, but when I saw that package I knew that Lucy had to have it.

I almost think the bullies are worse than the gangs. Maybe I am wrong, but I think the gangs mostly focus on each other and ignore everybody else. The bullies are more equal opportunity. I certainly wouldn't provoke a gang member, but I think most of the time they have their own agendas. But it is important to be aware of your surroundings (which DS is PITIFUL at doing) because if you are about to get caught in the middle of a gang conflict you need enough time to get out of the way.

Hmm.

I have a spot on my belly. I am not quite sure what to make of this spot. I called and made an appointment to see my Dr. on Monday.

It started out like a little red mole. I used to have one like it on my knee, but I kept cutting it when I shaved my legs so the Dr. froze it off.

Awhile back (of course I can't remember how long ago) the red mole on my belly turned dark purple one day - like it had ruptured under the skin or something. It was really dark purple in the middle and red around the edge. It looked like a blood blister. But it healed. Yesterday when I took off my pajamas I was shocked to see it has happened again. Middle is raised, edge is flat. Middle is irregular in shape, edge is more circular. The whole thing is smaller in diameter than a pencil eraser. It is about halfway between the bottom edge of my bra and the waistband of my pants so it isn't in a spot where anything rubs against it.

I have been looking at pics and reading descriptions of skin cancer. Some things KIND OF sound like this spot, but not really. None of the pics really look like this spot, either. So I am not sure what to think. The Dr. is going to look at it and refer me to a dermatologist if she thinks it is anything weird. I feel a little queasy. The first tie it happened I thought it was odd, but now that it has happened again I don't know what to think.

Elizabeth, back away from the internet! You did the right thing by making a doctor's appointment for Monday. Don't scare yourself for the next four days looking at pictures!

I think that if it were a cancerous spot it would not have gone away the first time, so that is good. There are so many skin rashes that it could be. It could even be some sort of insect bite, spider would be my bet. You do need to get it checked out to find out for sure what it is and to ease your mind.

I'm off to work. Of course we are in the middle of a snow storm. I bet that it will be dead tonight. I really hope that I'm wrong though.

Robyn,

I'm praying for all of us as we deal with this economic crisis. :grouphug:

Kevin mentioned that the county commissioners are bantering about closing everything down for two weeks, forcing county workers to take a two-week unpaid vacation. That idea is ridiculous...are they not going to arrest anyone for two weeks?!!

so true....1 time I was looking at symptoms online...and I followed the graph....and it concluded that I have a prostate issue!!!! :rotfl2:

The pictures aren't scaring me because none of them really look like my spot. It is the TEXT that is scaring me! :scared1:
I am working late tonight, but maybe if DH is awake when I get home I will have him take a pic of my spot so you can all give your opinions. ;)

One of the descriptions of basal cell carcinoma says the same spot will "erupt", then heal, then "erupt" again. That was the one blurb of text that pushed me into making the appointment. It is definitely not any sort of insect bite.

Hopefully the snow will not be bad enough to keep everyone at home! :wizard:

What services are county as opposed to city?
Our police and fire are CITY. I am not coming up with very many county services, other than absolutely necessary ones, like the county HOSPITAL, the county JAIL, the SCHOOLS, the Health Dept., and so forth. Not sure shutting down Dallas county would help because I don't think there is anything they could do without!

You know what? I found it. It isn't a mole, it's an angioma. It is on my trunk and I am over age 30. All the pieces fit! I feel MUCH better now. I may keep the appointment just to be on the safe side, but I really don't think it is anything to panic about! :)

Good advice! I agree. Relax until your doctor actually gives you something to worry about!

I am getting a bit nervous about my interview this afternoon....any and all good thoughts, prayers and pixie dust sent this way would be much appreciated!!
Hope it went well!
