DDA Chapter 14

OK, I am asking for major good thoughts and PD for Kathrin on Thursday. She sent in a writing sample to The Princeton Review after her initial interview last week. They received it this morning and by this afternoon at 2:00 they had set up a full day of follow-up interviews with everyone from the HR person to the management in the Boston office to her potential boss and the rest of the staff.

This sounds very promising to me but I toned down my exuberance when I talked to her on the phone. She is excited enough as it is.

Anyway... start sending PD about 10:00 a.m. on 11/13 (one month to the day since she was let go...).

I would be too! I hope to stay here again sometime.
Well....what are you doing 1/27 to 2/3? The room sleeps 5.

She seems SO much more excited than our last solo trip. She sort of remembers the Poly but not all the little details. She says she doesn't remember seeing the torch lighting ceremony. As much as I was looking forward to AKL CL I am really looking forward to going to the Poly in January. I know I'll be SO ready for a beach trip!

I took today off so I could have a nice long weekend and get some stuff done. Didn't get too much done (at home) today. DH & I went out for breakfast and then to Kohl's. We went to a nice toy store in the mall. Got a few Christmas gifts and a birthday gift for a party Emma was invited to on Sunday. I got a few things for Joe-a Timex watch, Presidents word search-he's so into the Presidents-this book has a like history lesson on each search-he'll eat that up, & a book on Massachusetts lighthouses-he'll love that too. I got Lizzy a cubic zirconia "L" necklace. Got Emma a cute Ty Huskie-bigger than beanie baby size and small plastic German Shepard & wolf. I got a Nintendo game for either Joe or Lizzy. I feel like I have a bit more of a handle on things for Christmas now. I have a HUGE list of things I want to make. Hopefully I can do a couple tomorrow.

 :wizard:  :wizard: We'll send it all her way.

I had a chance to talk to Hunter's Social Studies teacher today. He got a B- in that class with a notation that he did not complete work that he missed while we were on vacation. He says that she has no idea what he missed. She said that she had assigned him to find out about Christopher Columbus while we were in the Bahamas. He didn't realize that he was supposed to turn anything in and when she asked him if he learned about Christopher Columbus he said no. The reality is that he didn't learn anything that he didn't already know, but he spent and entire day asking questions of the locals only to get no information. There wasn't even a history museum there. He took photos of the Columbus statue and mural and all of the old buildings etc. The teacher also said that his primary teacher reminded him a couple of times :confused3 I'll get to the bottom of that tomorrow at his conference. Tonight I helped him write a paper detailing his research and I printed 30 photos. I think it is too late for her to change the grade, but he did do the work. I am also not happy that he did not get a missing work slip or he would have taken care of this a long time ago. Tomorrow's conference should be interesting if nothing else.

"COOL!" :cool2: (:rotfl2:  :rotfl: )
Yes you are!

Hi from North Carolina!

Went house hunting this weekend. Also went to the school district admin building to get all the info on the schools & special programs for Daniel. I was very content with what they told us. We found a couple of homes that fit our bill. We took the kids to play mini golf this afternoon so they could have a break from being dragged from house to house & sitting in the car most of the day. We took Katie to the HS we are looking at for her & she was thrilled at the acting & dance classes that they offer. I think that made things feel better for her. She is sitting her writing little notes on the school in her notebook.

:flower3: to everyone!!!
I'm glad things are looking a little brighter for Katie. :) Continued good luck wishes for you. :wizard:

This GS stuff is going to push me over the edge. I got a phone call from a dad of girl that attends the school we used to meet. He wanted information on our Brownie troop so his daughter can join. We aren't technically a troop yet and I have parents calling us. :headache: I had to politely tell him that until we are official there isn't much I can do at this point. I think he thought I was a total idiot as I bumbled my way through the call.

Not to mention I told the girl at council that I wanted our troop closed. We didn't want any new members. I felt bad because I am not going to be the official leader for the troop. Since there are only 5 of us we are all taking the training and being certified as leaders. I can't make that decision by myself.

I also want to know who gave out my number. I'm pretty sure I know who it was but want to know for certain before she gets a piece of my mind.

What a mess. It's harder than anything I've done trying to get someone to call me back from the council to get things rolling. :sad2:
:wizard: getting this all figured out.

:wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: Is this the thing you were talking about the other day, that she couldn't open?

:thumbsup2 My kids now understand that they will get their turn. Even Emma who knows she won't be going in 2009 (but I don't know that really understands that we aren't going on our family trip) understands that it "isn't her turn". Those trips really are special. Someday I hope my DH will let me take all 3 alone because I want the kids to continue to have shared Diseny memories. Maybe he'll miss Disney if we go somewhere else.:rotfl2:
Why won't he let you? :confused3

Good luck with the teachers! :wizard:

Good morning. It's a holiday here today, but I'm going to work anyway for the overtime. I need a little extra Disney money.

Tammi, looks like they are having some issues. It gave me a warning, couldn't find server.

Hunter's appointment is over. He ended up coming home with me as his eyes were still very dialated and he couldn't read anyway. The doctor found a significant change in his eyes. Hopefully that explains the headaches. We are moving him back to yearly appointments instead of every 2 years in hopes of catching changes sooner. After the appointment we went and ordered a new pair of glasses. We also left one of his old pair that are still in great shape and we will have the lenses changed in those. The doctor said that his current glasses cannot even be used as a backup pair because of the significant changes. I really hope that once the new glasses arrive he will be headache free :wizard:

I hope that this takes care of Hunter's headaches. My eyes changed so quickly in middle and high schools that I was on a 6 month schedule at one point. Thankfully, they finally stopped. Laura really needs to go to the eye doctor, but we won't have coverage for her until January, so we're trying to hold out. She doesn't want to go, but I can tell she's having some problems with distance vision.

It amazes me how many kids things you have to do around there. We have 2 movie theaters, a bowling alley, and a roller rink (that is 45 minutes away). We have a nice science museum, but the exhibits don't change that oftern. We have ice rinks and ski mountains during the winter, but skiing and snowboarding are not cheap. We don't even have a major stadium within a 100 mile radius :confused3 What we do have is small school, very low crime, huge yards for the kids to play in, lots of hiking trails and other nature activities.

Your area sounds a lot like ours, though our schools are a little bigger. We are also beginning to get an influx of people from downstate who found that they can live less expensively here making their welfare checks go further. I know that sounds mean/prejudiced against the less well-off, and I am thankful that we have so much, but it is the truth.
