DDA Chapter 13

Does anyone else find this a bit disturbing? I'm going over in my mind how I'm going to handle it.

They had a lock-down drill at school today. I didn't know it was going to happen. Nicholas told me about it at home tonight, and explained what procedures they went through. I asked him if he knew why they would have a lock-down, and he did. They he procedes to tell me that his teacher told them about 2 boys that went into a school with guns and killed 8 people in the library, and then they "turned the guns on themselves." He would never know what a phrase like that meant unless someone told him. He said it made him a little scared. This is 3rd grade! I don't think this explanation needed to be given. I work very hard to keep my kids sheltered from this kind of stuff, at least until they are older and better able to process the information. I asked Alyssa what she was told about it and she said lock-downs are just another way to keep them safe, like fire or tornado drills. So I'm debating whether or not I'm just going to address it with the teacher, by phone or email, or take it straight to the principal.

start with the teacher.

Never, ever have my kids schools had lock down drills. We've only had the real thing.

Is it as gobbledy gooky as the info on the League of Women Voters' site??

I'm not going to goober my "research" up with another website.:lmao:

Seriously...tomorrow morning I'll post my findings...which could take the rest of the 250 pages.:rotfl2:

That seems like an odd explanation for a teacher to give. My kids know what happened as they saw the news coverage at the time. I'm sure Colby doesn't remember, but the older 2 do. I don't think that it adversely effected the way the view their school. I believe that our school does have lock down drills, but the kids never mention it. I know that the teachers all had to install curtains over their hall window just in case. They wouldn't want a someone to be able to look through the windows to see where each child is. If it bothers you than I would suggest talking directly to the teacher. If you're not satisfied with the response then go to the principal. Of course I see our principal everyday and he usually asks me how things are going to something like that would probably come up in conversation anyway, but I would give the teacher the respect of going to her directly first.

Ok, I'm clearly tired as this post is way to long.

Good Night all.

So today was just a waste of a day. At least it felt that way. I feel like I am accomplishing nothing at work anymore. As the calls and requests keep piling in. I have so many girls looking for placement which is great. I do not have leaders for these girls. I know it is for 5- 10 troops worth of girls. Nobody seems to want to be a leader, with the economy the way it is. I think lots of parents are picking up a second or 3rd job. Or if there is space in a troop it is too far to drive with the cost of gas. I hope to come up with some creative ways to convince people to lead. I know very little about my new areas and have not had time to acquaint myself with them.

I also spent today on the phone with medical offices. I had to reschedule my dentist appointment as the office is closed that day since the entire staff is going to a training. I had to reschedule my orthopedic appointment and I had to schedule an x-ray. It took longer then it should have. I still need to get referrals for the ortho and x-ray. Hopefully I do not have to go back to either.

I almost got hit today, and I arrived at an intersection right after an accident occurred. There was some big guy with no shirt directing traffic. I had to giggle, it was an interesting sight.

I ended helping my Mom with her resume and cover letter. It is not done, I will have to help her finish it.

I am happy that gas is $3.25, I hope it drops to under $3. I am wishful.

I am sick of all the political crap. I am registered Independent. I keep having real people call me from the Obama campaign. Asking if I have questions, if I am voting for Obama and they go on and on. I hear very little if anything from McCain's campaign. I do not think either of them is truly the right person for the job. I dislike that they just try and backstab each other by misinterpreting facts. But I will have to chose the lesser of the two evils.

Tia- I think you could combine the chocolate and Philharmagic themes. As for the cake you could set a cereal box or similar width box, decorate it to look like brick and then stick a plastic or stuffed Donald through it. ON top of a cake decorated with music notes or a sorcerer hat.

What if rather then put Donald through the wall he goes through the Sorcerer's hat. Use the pan you talked about for the Barbie cake. Add a paper cone to the top to make the sorcerer's hat, decorate with blue icing and yellow stars.

Then stick duck feet out the one side and Donald's head or just one of the plastic bills like from a duck tour out the other.

I wish I had a four day weekend. If I am lucky I will have a one day weekend.

Night all once again it is 2am and I am not asleep. I gotta fall asleep, although my body is not ready.

Tom the little girls look so happy! What a wonderful person you are :goodvibes

Yeah, I was concerned because ours will be 3 adults and 2 kids. The listing on Allears says they are both the same amt of time, but the FW rides are $35 and WL are $60! Is that correct?

Yea the ride at WL went up this year to $60  We did this last year & there is no way I think it is worth that! Go with the one at FW, like Kristine said you will see more & it is still $35. The large carriage at FW will hold 2 adults & 3 children as well.

What can I say, I have always been the responsible one.
For what its worth, Dawn would have tried to convince ya to stay home and would have offered to call your boss and tell him/her you wouldn't be in.

:rotfl2: That would have been difficult because my boss didn't come in yesterday. She and her DH took a well-deserved, long-postponed trip to Gatlinburg for 6 days. :goodvibes

I think it would be perfect for that! She is thinking a chocolate cake with chocolate icing, chocolate fondue (or fountain) and chocolate party favors. She has chocolate themed games in mind too, but I don't think the 16yos will have quite the same thoughts on those as my 5yo. ;)

Sounds like a great plan to me!

I think that you should definitely talk with the teacher before the principal. Alyssa's teacher had a much better explanation.
