Question for the Day...

If you had to chose a location for a vacation other than anywhere Disney related, where would you chose and why?

I'm brainstorming ideas for our vacation next summer and I found myself wondering where you all would chose and why. Maybe it will help me spark interest in somewhere other than Disney.

Bob and I are hoping to go to AZ and NV for baseball spring training. We'll fly into PHX and then head north to the Grand Canyon and fly out of Vegas. :thumbsup2

Question, do you prefer a gas or electric stove? We have gas right now, but are thinking about buying a electric one. There is a black one at Lowes marked down to $225 & I am just not sure what to do.

We have electric, but most of my employers' have gas stoves. Not that I cook at home or at work. :rolleyes1 Gas seems to be preferred by a lot of chefs. When you reduce the flame the temp adjusts immediately, where the element on an electric stove stays a little bit hotter than you want until it has time to cool down to the lower setting. Gas stoves scare me though. It's the way the burner goes POOF every time you turn it on. :scared:

Theresa and Glynis - have a FABULOUS weekend together!!!

Have fun, ladies!! :yay:

Who's ready for the Grey's premiere???

I missed the first 8 minutes because Ugly Betty put me to sleep, but I watched the rest! :thumbsup2

Bob and I will leave here by 3:30 for a 6:45 flight. It has a stop in Atlanta and we arrive in MCO at 10:42 p.m. We have never, ever had anything but non-stop flights to WDW so this is hard for us because the flight time is more than twice as long. :sad2:

Have a FABULOUS time! :wizard:

I came home to the oddest answering machine message tonight. It was CRO calling about our AKL CL reservations in December. They wanted to inform us that the price of our package had gone down and that they would be sending out a new confirmation by snail mail. The CM who called wanted to reassure me that our reservation number would remain the same. The total amount is lower, by about $45. :confused3

That is odd. They don't apply codes unless you call and re-do the ressie yourself, so I don't know why the price would drop. :confused3

The only place I am remotely interested in besides WDW is China.

John and I want to spend some time exploring Salem, Ma.
Stay in a hunted hotel, do a haunted tour, ect.

OK, Salem would be cool.

It is pitch black here & pouring.

I am in today painting & making the house look presenatable for the estate agent. We are still so confused to the schools in NC. We like the town of Cary but their schools seem wonky to me. You can buy a house next door to a school but the district can send your kid to another school miles away. Here you go to the school near your home...makes no sense to me. Chapel Hill schools don't do that but CH homes prices are very high (for NC) & so are the taxes...I don't want to be in the same boat I am in now, just someplace else, YKWIM? So we have been researching the schools on line to get as much info as possible...still find it all confusing.

Sophie lost a tooth last night. She was so excited. Thankfully the toothfairy woke up in time to deliver her prize.

Yay for Sophie! :cool1:
Hang in there! Part of the reason we haven't moved to FL is the logistics of jobs and schools. DH could transfer pretty easily, but the rest of it makes my head hurt! :headache: It seems like one of the districts around here has that weird thing where the school near your home may NOT be where your kids go. I hope you can get it figured out soon!! :wizard:

Anne Marie I hope you find the perfect school :wizard:

Congratulations to Sophie :woohoo:
Thanks!

Thanks! I am so nervous about this move. We have great schools here & Daniel is settled into his school so well I hate to disrupt that. However they have good schools in Cary & Chapel Hill too so hopefully it will work out. I guess I am worried about the "unknown". I just want to get down there already & check out the neighborhoods & talk with the people in the schools to get a real feel for the place. It's crazy to think we have to pick a place to live & we don't even know much about it.

Alright, suppose I should mention that my sister told me to join facebook. :confused3

I have not been there long and don't go often, but I just sent out a mess of friend request. If you didn't get one, that is because even using email I couldn't find ya.

Ann Marie, take a breath, you will find the right school and the right home.

I'm in the need of some major pixie dust right now. My dad just called me to let me know that things with my mom have spiraled downhill rather rapidly. She's on dialysis 3 times a week, and for the last 2 weeks at each session, she's passed out. Her blood pressure becomes almost non-existent, and it's been really puzzling. Her doctor's ran some tests today and found that her new (well, 5 year old) heart valve is not functioning at all anymore. That is affecting her dialysis and causing her to pass out. It's very dangerous, as the dialysis is not working effectively, without that valve, so her body is collecting all the poison and not getting rid of it.

She has an emergency meeting with the heart specialist at 8:00 tomorrow morning, and they will most likely schedule her for surgery as soon as possible. They will try to get her stabilized, but dad is projecting that surgery could come as early as Monday, if not sooner.

If you could spare some prayers, good thoughts, pixie dust, etc., for my mom and dad, I would appreciate it. She's in good health otherwise, so hopefully this surgery will really fix her up.

Sending lots of prayers to your Mom, Dad and you! Do they know anything else yet?

Chuck and I talked some more and I decided I wanted to stay at Saratoga Springs for half of our trip. The Princess Half ladies are thinking about eating at DTD or POR Saturday night for Pasta (recommended for the night before a race). Being at SSR, will make that easier for us.

So, I called to make my DVC reservations and ...

they had exactly what I wanted for the dates I wanted.

Next, I have to find out how I get to the Sports Complex on Friday to pick up my race packet. For race day, I'll hire a taxi.

Cool!

Glynis, I love, love, love my job! It is just wonderful, the other nurses and docs are sooooo nice and helpful. It's been wild so far (already had 2 babies crash and go critical on me during my shift), so I am learning a ton and using my brain cells again. I know I made the right decision, and it is definitley the job for me. :thumbsup2

That is terrific news! I still say those babies are lucky to have you. :goodvibes

Prayers requested for my best friend Jan and her family. Her father died. He has been in and out of the hospital for the last year or so. He was in his late 80's I think. It is one of those situations where it is a blessing for him but a terrible loss for my best friend.

PD and prayers sent. :wizard:

Theresa and Glynis - have a FABULOUS weekend together!!!

Yes -- I hope you guys have a terrific time and great weather.

Work was crazy tonight. I'd like to say it was super busy, but it really wasn't that busy. I waited on 31 people and it felt like 68. The kitchen was under staffed probably based on how slow we've been and with no microwaves now they could not keep up pace. People waited forever for their food. It will be interesting to see how things shake down tomorrow. Whatever happens it should directly effect me though :thumbsup2

Nick's birthday is Monday and he is so excited. I don't think he's ever been this excited. He even made himself a countdown calendar. :rotfl2: :rotfl2: Is 13 a big birthday for boys? I don't remember it being a big deal for me :confused3

Andrew is also counting down the days until he's no longer a tween and is an official teenager. I can't tell you about girls, but I know for boys around here it's a big deal.

Wow -- that's terrific!

For trips with kids -- DC was a lot of fun and there is so much to see. We also love Destin, Florida. But I have to say, we were kind of sad to miss Disney this past summer. Dec. seems like it will never get here. Cruises can also be tons of fun and there are good deals out there on some lines. Just not usually on my favorite line...

Congrats to Sophie!

Is there good corporate housing so that you guys can buy some time figuring out neighborhoods? Andrew's classmate and his family had to move to San Antonio last year and had terrible corporate housing -- very cramped. Now that AT&T is moving corporate to Dallas, they are having to move back here. (Yeah -- this is one of Andrew's best friends!) The corporate housing they are in here is fabulous and huge.

Sending tons of PD for Elin and Bob on their trip!

Randy fixed our compactor last night! After I take the boys to get flu shots this afternoon, we are meeting a guy at the house to give me a bid on the carpet. Now I just need to get the other toilet fixed unless something else breaks.

Soccer this weekend, then I've promised to help my nephew with his campaign stuff for student council.

Have a great weekend everyone!

We have that here in Northern VA, where I work. They have to make sure all cultures are equally represented. They, whoever 'they' are, decide that there is too much of one ethnicity at a school, so they draw school boundaries to make the schools 'balanced'. I'm trying to be VERY politically correct here, so I best not say anything further so as not to offend anyone.

Congrats to Sophie!

Oh, thanks for the reminder!

YAY for a fixed compactor!!! :yay:

What made you get a connecting flight? Price?

Delta no longer has any direct flights to MCO out of Richmond! And I had booked my flight with miles so we were stuck. It will all work out in the end, but it has been a hassle!

John and I want to spend some time exploring Salem, Ma.
Stay in a hunted hotel, do a haunted tour, ect.

We really enjoyed our time in Salem this summer, Heidi. the tours are plentiful and there is a pirate museum and lots of great places to eat. We were not staying there so I can't help you out as far a hotels. Very commercial, but very fun!

Anne Marie - I think my friend, Anna Mary, said that Cary was a great place to live. And the schools were good. Maybe check into what makes them move your children to other schools and see if you can get around that. Do they provide transportation if they move the kids?

Bob and I are hoping to go to AZ and NV for baseball spring training. We'll fly into PHX and then head north to the Grand Canyon and fly out of Vegas. :thumbsup2

It is a lovely drive... up through Sedona and the Native American sites are truly amazing. I hope you can work it out!

That is odd. They don't apply codes unless you call and re-do the ressie yourself, so I don't know why the price would drop. :confused3

But I think that has to be why it went down! I read on another thread that the discounts that were out now were better than the AP rates that I had gotten. It is the only explanation I can see. :confused3

Safe travels, Elin! Enjoy yourselves. And Happy Anniversary!

OK - My car is in the shop for the recall repair and I have a manicure appointment in 15 minutes. About the time I get back the car should be ready and they I have to go teach. I don't know if I will make it back on here today. So, just in case...

So long
