DDA Chapter 12

I'm working on a special dinner for Katrina tonight. It is her 23rd birthday on September 23 so it is her golden birthday. We are going to have salad, stuffed shells, garlic bread and angel food cake. She saved a movie for us to watch - Nim, I think.

Yum! I so wish my family would have done "golden birthdays!" Alas, I was 20ish when I heard about them from you, and my birthday is on the 15th. Unfortunately, the girls won't have an extra special on either, at least not because it's "golden" -- their Sweet 16 will be it, and I'm not sure you need to add MORE to that particular birthday! That's one my family has always gone all out for.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, KATRINA!

Mine was my 16th as well. My friends had a big party for me at school. Becky's was her 13th. She has always had a thing for the number 13. She turned 13 on Friday the 13th. We had a big bash for her. Katrina just wanted it to be the three of us.

Hi everyone! I've missed chatting with you all. My parents left this morning. I've been reading and keeping up, but I didn't take the time to post. We had a nice visit. Nicholas' team played really well at their game on Saturday. They ended up winning 28-0. There is a rule in football at this level that if one team has more than 25 pts and the other team has 0, the lead team can't get the ball back until the other team scores. At that point they put in our second string defensive, which included Nicholas as Right Tackle. He ended up on his tushy a few times, but the second string kept them from getting a TD the whole 4th quarter. My dad enjoyed watching the kids play. Saturday afternoon we spent the day around the house, trimming bushes. Then we went out to dinner and some shopping. I need to buy Alyssa some new jeans but she is between sizes. She's too fat for 7 slims and too skinny for 7 regular.

Elin - Sunday afternoon I took my parents on the trolley tour. We had a different guide, who pronounced Rappahannock correctly, but she left out talking about some stuff. :confused3

It's good to be back. :goodvibes:

Janet - I was reading along with Nicholas over my shoulder and he saw that it's Garrett's bday. Nicholas said "can you type in that I said happy birthday?" So.....Happy Birthday to Garrett from Nicholas and myself!

ETA: After reading more closely, I see it's Gary's birthday, not Garrett's. Oh well, Happy Birthday to Gary too!

Congrats to Nicholas on a great 4th quarter!!:thumbsup2

:woohoo: Congrats to Nicholas & his team!

Lizzy always had that problem of I think her hips too big for slims but regulars too big in the waist. She does best with The Children's Place regulars with the elastic button adjusters in the waist band. Many other brand regulars are just way too big even with the adjusters. I've been able to get most of her pants at the outlet at some really great prices.

We're home from the football game. It costs $2 per person to get in. Useful info since NOBODY seemed to be able to figure that out! I guess the asst. band guy decided half time of the second game was long enough, so he let the kids go home at 7:30. Of course we were being told 8:30 earlier today, so it sounds like some of those kids may be stuck at school for another hour!

The bus for the thing tomorrow isn't leaving until 5 PM. That's an important little detail, don't you think? Since school gets out at 3:30 I don't want DS to sit there for 90 minutes. Not sure if DS is going to that competition or not. We shall see. I don't think he needs to "observe" other bands for more than 3 hours, especially if he has a lot of homework!

Beth - I have to agree with Elizabeth here! Stick to your guns and don't let them work you double for no extra money.

Elizabeth - regarding Science Fair.....don't sugar coat it......tell us how you REALLY feel!:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Seriously, though, I'm with you! I hate it too! Luckily, Katie is done with all the mandatory Science fairs and the only other ones are in Jr. High and High school and they are voluntary! Jacob will have to do one in 2 years, so I've got some breathing room!

If I remember correctly Beth had a hard year last year teaching both classes and that was with a second teacher. I fear taking it on alone would make for a long hard year  Good luck with whatever you decide.

That's strange because I got mine when I was about 13-1/2 and I was quite late compared to all of my friends. I think I was actually the last one in our group by more than a year. I'd had friends that had gotten it when they were 10 & 11.

I was about 13 1/2, I don't really remember. All I know is that ever since I got it I've wished it would never come again :rotfl:

Mine would have been my 18th too. I was at college for that birthday :goodvibes

My day certainly got more interesting. We have a new head chef at the restaurant as the former head chef/owner is moving to Oregon. The new Guy started today with his brother/assistant. There are a lot of changes. I think overall it will be great and hopefully will breathe some new life into the restaurant. I can see lots of bumps along the road in the next few weeks. He has already removed all the microwaves that they used to use. Everything will be cooked to order without cutting corners. He has also come up with some interesting and new specials. We no longer are cutting the vegetables for the salad bar and we aren't plateing the french fries. It was a learning experience to say the least.

I plan to go in early tomorrow morning to print the new menus. Colby took a long nap today and went to bed early so I have my fingers crossed that he is not getting sick. Hunter still has an earache so I'm hoping that the meds are working. He seems to be able to go longer periods without the numbing meds so maybe things are getting better. He asked me to give him his meds during the night instead of in the morning as it worked well today. Not having the ear drops clogging up his ears right before school worked better for him.

Ok, how are you going to get vegetables cut for the salad bar? And what do you mean by you aren't going to plate french fries? How else do you serve them? Does that mean that the chef is going to do it and not the wait staff?

I sure hope that the sickies leave your family soon!

Heidi...

not sure if anyone answered you....but I was at DTD and saw NO paper towel holders of any kind

The chef and/or prep cooks will be doing it all. The waitstaff won't be touching most of the food which is how it should be :thumbsup2

Thank you Jennifer!!!

Oooh very nice.

It's funny that it is Christmas stuff. I was just thinking about the boys birthday party. I was toying with a Christmas theme, that way I could put my Christmas decorations up now and save time this winter :lmao: :lmao: The rest of the family isn't buying into it :confused3
