DDA Chapter 12

Abi turned 12 in May so she'd be a late bloomer but she is still very apprehensive about it. I am going to have to ask if she has supplies in her backpack this year.

(way not part of this conversation...what school is it that I am requesting information for Cassidy from??:rotfl: )

I don't think 12.5 is late at all! Good luck to you and Glynis!

12 is late?! I guess Laura was really late then. She was almost 13.5 years old. Now that I think about it, she was the last of her friends, but I thought that was because she has a summer birthday. Some of her friends are 9 months older than her. It was way easier than she had feared (except for the whole she needed to swim thing). She is lucky, though, to have 6 week cycles. She has a friend who has 3 week cycles.

Beth - I'm appalled that the director thought you would like to increase your workload for LESS money. That shows a shocking lack of respect for you as a professional. Have you talked with any other preschools? I would be shopping for a new job!

I had a job where they had a baby right at my one year anniversary. No raise. The mom stayed home for 6 months. (I worked my full schedule the entire time. In fact, half the time she would go get in the shower at 6 PM so I wasn't able to leave until 6:20 or so - no overtime for that. When she FINALLY went back to work I asked her about my raise. She said I wasn't getting a raise because she was already paying me what I was paid for 2 kids at my last job! :scared1:  I should have walked out right then and there and never looked back. It was a huge fight every single year to get anything that remotely resembled a fair increase, because she would always spin it so it was in her favor. She said I couldn't have more vacation days because I had so much free time when the kids were at school. Then she told me if I was going to do anything while they were at school it would be docked as personal time, but I never got any additional days. After 6 years I deserved more personal days, but she was always telling me NO when I would ask to use a personal day so having more wouldn't have mattered. By the time I left I was WAY under market salary because I let her talk me down year after year. Stupid, stupid. :sad2:

Bernadette - That is odd about DH. You could make him come sell concessions tonight. I hear they need help. :rolleyes1 Seriously, that doesn't sound good. Has he had issues with depression before? Keep an eye on him, and encourage him to get out some before the weather gets gross.

DS brought home a packet yesterday. A packet about my nemesis - Science Fair. :scared: I HATE Science Fair. And it is on a stupid timeline like it was last year so every time we turn around some piece of it is due. :headache: I HATE Science Fair. DS has to turn his project title in NEXT WEEK! We don't KNOW our project title yet, you boneheads. The classes haven't even been leveled yet, so he could still end up with a different teacher! Science Fair isn't until February. We DO NOT need the pressure of piece after piece being due from now until the Christmas break. I HATE HATE HATE Science Fair.:furious: I need a little man who hops up and down with rage.

I was precisely 12 and 6 months. The thing is, girls are starting earlier and earlier now. (There have been some articles that say it is from the growth hormones added to cows' milk, but I'm not sure if that's true or not.) The trend over the past 2 decades has put girls starting as early as 9! :scared1:

most of the girls in Abi's class (and Cassidy's for that matter) got "it" last year. I remember when 13/14 was average...it gets younger and younger every generation.

Beth - I have to agree with Elizabeth here! Stick to your guns and don't let them work you double for no extra money.

Elizabeth - regarding Science Fair.....don't sugar coat it......tell us how you REALLY feel!:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Seriously, though, I'm with you! I hate it too! Luckily, Katie is done with all the mandatory Science fairs and the only other ones are in Jr. High and High school and they are voluntary! Jacob will have to do one in 2 years, so I've got some breathing room!

That's what our school nurse told us as well. I've had Katie prepared (well, as much as you can be) and ready with supplies since she was in 3rd grade. I figure, better ready than sorry! I'd hate to have her embarrassed at school, especially since this is her first year with a male teacher!

Glynis - It is mandatory for us this year and next year. Not sure about high school, but I bet if DS is in an honors class it will be mandatory. :sad2: I thought of a cool one about ground water run-off, but we can't do anything with plants because the cats would eat them. Of course the project requires a research paper with at least 5 resources, so not only does it have to be a good project, there has to be some component to "research" for 2 pages worth of babble. Asinine. We liked setting stuff on fire last year. DH wasn't really digging the setting stuff on fire, but it's not about him. I need to think on this a bit more.

DH just called. The band director is out sick again today. The assistant told DH to have DS back at school by 4:45. They will warm up and go out to the bleachers at 5:30 PM, which is when the first game starts. That is NOT what we were told at Open House. I don't know when the second game starts. The e-mail I got said 7 PM, so MAYBE 7 PM. But we can't take DS home until 8:30! That is NOT FAIR that they have to stay DOUBLE the amount of time as the football players. At Open House the director said 6:15 - 8:15, not 4:45 to 8:30. But of course he isn't even THERE today!

The assistant director told DS the thing tomorrow is NOT mandatory and they won't be penalized for not going. They STILL haven't told the kids WHAT TIME they are leaving! If they chartered a bus and none of the kids show up the director is going to be irate! I would not put it past him to penalize the kids for not going. I think DH will get to go to the Band room after school again tomorrow and try to sort it out. :headache:

DH asked if he has to pay admission to get into the game. Nobody knows. They think everybody has to pay, but nobody knows how much. Right now his plan is to drop DS off at 4:45 and MAYBE we will both go up to the school when I get off work. :rolleyes1

The school doesn't know how much it costs to get into the game, either. They THINK it is $3 - $5. Could we have any LESS information? For people who NEVER carry cash this is a big issue!

That's strange because I got mine when I was about 13-1/2 and I was quite late compared to all of my friends. I think I was actually the last one in our group by more than a year. I'd had friends that had gotten it when they were 10 & 11.

Jennifer, I loved the latest blog entry!! :goodvibes When Emma and my niece were babies someone asked if they were twins. Emma and Alyssa are 3 months apart and Emma is white and Alyssa is black. :rotfl: Clearly they were NOT twins!

For biracial couples, this is not unheard of actually from what I understand.

I'm going to bed.

I could have told you that, had you asked! :lmao: I'm sure that makes you feel so much better, doesn't it??!! :rotfl: Don't smack me.

I'm sorry that it is stressful for you. Remember it for your 25th wedding anniversary party.

Elizabeth, :lovestruc Only you can make me name my seating chart Jimmy.

I was thinking the same thing. She is a hoot, isn't she? I know that if I need to laugh, I just need to read something of Elizabeth's. She has a way of saying things that puts the proper perspective on it for me.

I'm working on a special dinner for Katrina tonight. It is her 23rd birthday on September 23 so it is her golden birthday. We are going to have salad, stuffed shells, garlic bread and angel food cake. She saved a movie for us to watch - Nim, I think.

The trees are beautiful right now. I can't believe that fall is here already. It is still quite warm outside.

Happy Birthday, Katrina! :dance3:

I can't believe she is 23. Where did the time go? We were talking to her last night about where we were at that time 23 years ago. We were in Milwaukee on Sunday. We were there for a wedding reception and a surprise baby shower for her. We left at 2pm in the afternoon. At 2am, I started to "leak". She was born a little after 2pm on Monday.

Yeah, I was 13.5 and almost everyone I know was around 13, at least!
