Good Morning All!!

Thanks for the condolences, that's not the right word but I can't think of a better one, on Jim's interview. All of his co-workers were pulling for him, because they knew he'd be a pushover and that is probably why he will never get a supervisor position.

In exactly 8 days I will be winging my way to Glynis...suppose I better tell my coworker I ain't going to be here huh?

And I'm so excited I can't stand it!!!!

Emma wants to have a sleepover for her birthday and I really don't want 6 or more girls here all night. How do the parents take it having to pick up the kids that late?

We did hear from Alan's sister and her family. They are all doing fine. The house next door lost all their trees, but Penny and her family didn't lose anything except their back fence. They are still without power (as of last night), but they are doing ok. They have plenty of food, water and essentials. Thanks for asking.

That's good! I hope they get their electricity back soon!

Yup, that's us. We're lucky, in that most of the parents around here feel the same way we do. We're careful to word the invitation as a "late night." The kids come to the house in their jammies, they play games, pop popcorn and watch a movie, and then either their parents pick them up at 10 or 10:30 or Alan or I walk them home (we live on a quiet circle).

All the feedback I've gotten from parents is very positive. Their kids get to have fun, but they are not tired and cranky the next day.

I forgot to explain to Jennifer how we can have 6 seasons per year.

Well, first we have Spring, then Summer, sometimes we have a Fummer (not quite Fall, but not entirely Summer, either), next comes Fall, then Finter (not quite Fall, not quite Winter) and then Winter.

It really has to be experienced to be believed!

What kind of reading do you want to do? Light and fun? If so, check out the Hannah Swenson mysteries. The first is The Chocolate Chip Cookie Murder. They are fun, light, and easy to read.

I am also quite enjoying the books by Jennifer Chiaverini. She writes about quilting, and relationships. The books are fabulous, easy to read and leave you feeling all warm and fuzzy! I just finished the first one "The Quilter's Apprentice" and it was so good! I've been reading them out of sequence, but that doesn't matter.

"Twilight" and the other books in the series are also very good. They are by Stephenie Meyer.

I'll see if I can come up with some other books for you.

Keep in mind these are all fluff recommendations!

Diane Mott Davidson does some great mysteries.

Jennifer Crusie (or Cruisie)...I'll have to look when I get home. Does awesome books.

Meg Cabot's grown up books are also great.

If they don't want to pick the kids up late you can tell the parents you will put their kids out in your driveway and they can pick them up at their earliest convenience.

One of my friends used to be a live-in nanny for 3 girls. The parents were hardly ever around, so my friend was usually in charge. One of the girls had a sleepover one night, and parents were to pick up their kids at a specific time the next day. One of the parents called my friend the next morning and told her it wasn't convenient for them to come get their DD until WAY later that afternoon! My friend was FURIOUS. Her charges were leaving for things like soccer games and swim meets, they weren't hanging around the house all day. I asked her if she told them their kid would be in the driveway when they got around to coming for her. Can't remember how it all worked out in the end.

Thanks Glynis! I think I'm going to get the Twilight Series - I think I can get into those quite easily - and before the movies come out! Given we'll be traveling (by plane/car) for at least 6 hours...I think I'll take two books. (I should go see if the softcovers are out at Walmart...or our local secondhand bookstore...)

Sophie is doing great. Seems just fine & went to school yesterday. No recess & gym for a week & she is not happy about that!

Yeah, well I'm here and I can't stand it! Still, I was having DIS withdrawal!

I was supposed to get the girls 3 month pictures taken earlier and thought I'd have a new signature by now, so I just threw this one there becuase I was tired of the old one. I can't remember for the life of me what had them so worked up, but we love this picture. We actually got a large print of it for our room, even though it's just a snapshot, and is certainly a little unorthodox compared to smiling portraits!

It's a great shot of them and they look a lot alike in it too!

Nope, he's gone about 35 hours when he's on call, then sleeping when he gets home. So we go without him for about 1.5 days out of every 4.... thankfully the next few months (starting with October) he is on "no-call" months!

I guess I hope Nicholas' team does well in the playoffs.... so I'll just send as many energy vibes to you as I can!

Thank you for your compliment. I receive a few about my "writing" (on the blog, TRs, etc), but mostly I just feel like I babble. It's all luck if it's ever entertaining!

I am trying to avoid a situation like I had almost 2 years ago with those 2 sisters and them not getting picked up until 2 in the afternoon. Emma is insistent on inviting the one sister who is in her class, they weren't in the same class last year but they are now and apparently they are glued to the hip. And the mom and I just don't talk like before I had Lucy. She is the mom who showed up last Oct (I hadn't seen/heard from her since school got out) with a gift for Lucy and then complained her mom backed out of watching her girls so her and her DH could go away.

Robyn - I remember that. I had no idea one of those same girls would also be involved in this party scenario. Be very explicit in your wording of the invitations. And if the mom asks if the sibling can come you need to be prepared to say no.

I was just on the American site. They have a contest right now, and if you enter you get a coupon for $25 off a flight over $250, valid for up to 2 people. You send a text and they text a code back to you. The drawback is that the codes are only valid for a short time. Mine says I have to purchase by 10/31/08 and travel by 11/28/08. Apparently if you wait until later to enter your code will be valid later (that part confused me). But the latest date I saw listed for codes was still not late enough for my August trip so I entered to see what would happen.

I guess now I have a code in case there is an emergency with my mom between now and Halloween and the flight is $250 or more. I can always use DH's phone to text and get another code that will be valid past mine.

The first 2 are definitely in paperback. They are large, so even in paperback, they'll be a bit heavy. However, I think you'll enjoy them!

I'm reading them in order. I don't think they have to be, but they do deal with some of the same people from book to book, and I have one of those brains that like to know who these people are and what their back stories are. I just finished the second one "Dying for Chocolate", and it was a great story with some fun recipes! I've got the third one on hold at the library.
