DDA Chapter 11

The son of Bob's coworker who had the party today was on the College Program at MGM a year ago. He worked behind the scenes at Fantasmic, so it was very interesting talking to him today.

Oh I bet you really enjoyed that!

Oh I bet you really enjoyed that!

I wish I could have listened in on that conversation!
He was telling me that all of the platforms had to be tested each night before the show and that they got to volunteer to do the testing. He got to 'test' the platform at the very top that Mickey pops out of at the end, and pop out of it just like Mickey does. How cool would that be!?

Deb stay safe. Make sure your Cell phone is charged. SO you can call us and let us know you are safe. Do you have a designated DDA person to call who can post for you if you can't get on line so we know you are safe?

The phone is charged, but I don't have a designated person to call. After Katrina cell phones did not work, I'm optimistic that we won't even be without power. (At least not for very long)

I came home from work to day to having no wall between the kitchen & dining room. I think I am really going to like it like this, it makes the kitchen look much bigger! Of course the house is now coated with dust  For the past 2 years our ceiling fan & light in the dining room has not worked, guess what is working now lol Gary said after he torn the wall down he seen the wire was kinked or something :confused3 Anyway one thing less he has to fix!

I will post pictures of our newest mess soon.

You are very lucky to have a DH who can do all this, mine definitely is not a carpenter.

The first feeder band has come and gone, it is really calm outside now. Curfew starts in two hours, if you're caught out on the streets you can be arrested.

Deb, thanks for the offer of the comforter and sheets, but he has a Race Car bed and his comforter set is Nascar. He uses his web on the couch, I hear his daddy has taken a liking to it also.

It wouldn't be very cool for me, I'm not too crazy about heights.

Wait! I called her first. :rotfl: She said it's too far from her kids. They can come, too! We'll be packed like sardines in here, but...

I have three rooms that need to be redone, including flooring, so add me to the list!

Where did everyone go :confused3 I post & you all leave :sad1: :rotfl:

well crud
okay but try to check in as often as you can so we know you are safe as long as you have electricity.

Woohoo! Disney music again!

Sorry, I finally have all of my stuff from the desktop back and can listen to my Disney music while I work on trip stuff. I feel much more organized having my spreadsheets back in order.

Sounds like tomorrow can be as much Disney as I want it to be too! We ended up BBQing today as Erin has to work tomorrow. Plus, Dad just walked out the door to make a courier run to St. Paul, MN. Apparently he is deliverying John Rich's (Big and Rich) to sing at the Republican National Convention tomorrow. I'm glad I thought to run the phone to him at the neighbors where he was helping Rachel let the dogs out. Apparently he'll make almost as much as a regular week with this one trip. He'll have to drive pretty much straight through to get there it sounds like, but can stop and sleep on the way home as much as needed since he wasn't working tomorrow anyway.

That would be so cool! My best friend used to work tech and spotlight for DL's Fantasmic. She loved doing the check on Maleficents "elevator" lift. When we'd take the kids over to Tom Sawyer's Island she'd point out all of the spots for different parts of the show.

Lindsay, I hope you have a great trip!

I think some people here read Kingdom Keepers a couple of years ago. Did you know that Kingdom Keepers II: Disney at Dawn came out earlier this week? I haven't had a chance to read it yet. Miles' friend recommended Kingdom Keepers to him a few months ago and told him that the new one was coming out. Miles borrowed Kingdom Keepers from his friend right after we returned from WDW and finished in a couple of days. I bought the second one for him, and he is reading it now.

I didn't know that. I'll have to run out and get it.

Good evening...

Debbie- Know that I am praying for you and everyone that is to be impacted from this horrible storm. Please stay safe. :wizard: I love the blankets!! That Spiderman one is so cool.

Steffy- Prayers for your dad. :wizard: :wizard: and 's

Lindsay- Thanks for checking in with us and letting us know that Mickey and Minnie are safe! I'm glad you and Jonathan are too!! :goodvibes

Theresa- I hope you have found some relief from the migraine.:wizard:

Anne Marie- Welcome home, can't wait to see your pics.

Deb- I'm sure you'll find a new obsession! I for the life of me cannot crochet or knit either despite how crafty I am.

Heidi- I can't remember if I mentioned how glad I was to hear your mom is in the clear!

Beth- Thanks for the heads up on the new Kingdom Keepers. I'll have to get Emma to read the first one now.

I know I'm missing a few, my brain is seriously mush. We rolled in around 1am last night putting us in bed around 2 but since it was a normal night for Lucy she was up about 7am. My niece was here with my mom last night so she ended up spending the night too. My parents and sister came over for a cookout this afternoon. Everyone has left and the house is back in order so the girls and I are snuggled in on the couch to watch the new Little Mermaid movie.

Oh and one last thing....Lucy is starting to take steps on her own!!!! She do about 5 at a time. She gets so excited though that she quickly falls downs!

:cool1: :cool1: Lucy's walking:cool1: :cool1:

Well, our beautiful day is gone, and the first feeder band has arrived, it looks pretty rough out there and the power has already flickered. I wasn't counting on it going out so soon but if I don't check back in that is why.

Right now things look a little better, the storm is now back to a Cat 3 coming ashore and it is moving quickly which is good, the sooner it gets over land the better. It hasn't taken another turn this way so we should only get Tropical Storm winds.

Only Tropical Storm winds :scared: I hope that the winds are much lighter than that

My DD got a little scared when the lights flickered, she hasn't taken her final shower yet! :lmao:

:rotfl2:

Wait! I called her first. :rotfl: She said it's too far from her kids. They can come, too! We'll be packed like sardines in here, but...

:rotfl: NO fighting Ladies ;)

I'm glad that things are moving along in your project. Construction dust is the worst

Very Cool

I have three rooms that need to be redone, including flooring, so add me to the list!

Wow. I could do the DDA Decorators US tour :goodvibes

Chris says that I can't go :sad2: Apparently he wants me to make seat covers for his Model A. He's been working on it again so I guess he wants his project to become mine too

That would be so cool! My best friend used to work tech and spotlight for DL's Fantasmic. She loved doing the check on Maleficents "elevator" lift. When we'd take the kids over to Tom Sawyer's Island she'd point out all of the spots for different parts of the show.

That's so neat :thumbsup2

That sounds lovely. I can't wait to see the color. Let me know what theme you decide on and the color please. I may need to whip you up a little something for the nursery :goodvibes

We are going for a Pooh bear theme. I've found some classic Pooh sheets for the crib, and some modern Pooh wall stickers. It's going to look a bit odd with all of Jacob's Star Wars stuff on one side of the room, but until the boys are able to communicate a little better, that's just the way it's going to be!

I definitely need the power of the DDA, I'm going to ask for pryers for a miracle, that somehow this storm fizzles out or at least doesn't reach the strength they are predicting. Asking that it just doesn't hit here feels wrong, as then it will spread it's devastation somewhere else.

The westbound interstate is almost at a standstill, and has been for at least four hours now. I'm confused as to why people from Louisiana are headed west instead of North. :confused3

And to make matters worse, Hannah is riding the coattail of Gustav. :sad2:

Prayers are being offered up from our household! My kids know that I have friends in the path of the storm, and they are very worried about you. Please be safe!!!

I hadn't heard that! Oh, man!!! That one is definitely on my must have list! Please let me know how Miles likes it!

Alan will kill me if I buy another hard back book. I just bought a copy of Stephenie Meyers book "The Host." Our book club is reading it for October's meeting, and there's no way I can get it from the library. I was 984th in line as of Friday, so I broke down and bought it.

We have our annual halloween camping trip coming up on the weekend of September 12. Usually I have all the costumes created, but not so this year. With all the household projects I haven't felt like being creative on the costume front. We talked about it over the last couple of weeks. Nick wants to wear the "dinner" costume for the contest. He'll wear something simple for trick or treat. Colby wants to be Dracula again. Those are easy since they are already made. Hunter may have been having an off day, but he said that he didn't want to trick or treat or do the contest. Even so I started thinking of easy costumes just in case. One I had though of was a lifeguard. I figured I could put the word Guard on the front of a t-shirt, with red short/trunks and a little zinc oxide on the nose. I even consided making something that resembled a ring buoy. I happend to stop by a moving/yard sale today in hope that they had a yard trailer for our winter wood. No trailer, but I did find this:

It is absolutely perfect and we can use it at my parent's pool for real. Best of all it only cost me $1 :thumbsup2 Hunter is thrilled and wants to wear the costume now :thumbsup2

Wow! You all left! I promise I showered today!!!

Well, the nursery is all painted. Alan needs to do some touch up where the kids were "helping" and got green paint on the trim that was supposed to stay white! Oh well. He promises me it won't be that bad. Tomorrow, we'll put all of Jacob's furniture back, and Alan will try to get the crib set up. I was planning on re-painting the dressers, but it's supposed to rain all day tomorrow, so we'll see if that happens. It's only supposed to get up to 58 degrees tomorrow, so I'm thinking it will be a good day to stay inside. Katie's room is the next one to be painted, so she gets to spend the day cleaning and de-junking.

I promise I'll post pictures, but only after things are coming together. Right now it looks like a mess around here! I had to move all the boxes of baby clothes out of the nursery until Alan can get the hope chest moved out of the closet and into the basement. Then, the boxes can go in the closet. My neighbor brought me over 2 packing boxes full of little boy shoes that will fit from birth to about 4 years old. Looks like Peanut won't be lacking for footwear for a while! I'm the only pregnant lady in our neighborhood, so all the people we know are excited and eager to help celebrate.

I'm watching the Gustav coverage, and just praying that a miracle occurs and he goes away peacefully. Not to mention Hannah! My prayers are with you Debbie! Please keep us posted as long as you can!
