She finally received word on her CP application--she was declined. She is heartbroken--she was really excited about the possibility, and thought her telephone interview went well. This is the first time she's ever applied for something and not gotten it.

Any thoughts on what I can do to help her through this, or things she can do to improve her chances of being selected if she re-applies in the future?

Sorry to hear this. Encourage her to apply again.

It will be hard getting through the immediate rejection period but by all means encourage her to apply again.

My suggestions:
Apply as soon as the recruiting period opens.
Do a search for Disney interview questions here on the web. That will give her some idea of the types of questions that could be asked. She can then practice answers to those questions prior to the interview, which might make her feel a little more relaxed. My DS did this and it worked for him, as he was accepted for Fall 09.
Be willing to do as many roles as possible. My DS was even willing to do QSFB if that is what it would take to get in. He was accepted for Custodial, not his first choice, but he is glad to do it just to be part of the Disney experience.

She should try again, and she will perhaps get a different recruiter that will see that she would be great for Disney. Good luck to her.

First off, let me send my sadness to her, and you as well, that is horrible, especially when it is the dream that she wanted and everyone else is hearing, then the build up........it's terrible!!!I know how a rejection feels for something that is so wanted, and it is crushing. The first thing I would say is just to try to comfort her in any way possible, I know when I don't get something I feel like it is always my fault, and in discussing the program with my parents it was to know that there are a lot of other factors such as openings in positions, over booking, lots of levels of managements, changes to the program we don't know about, background info that we can't imagine to know. The second thing I would suggest, in terms of finding out what to do better, at a time when she is feeling better or if you do it (it would look better if she did it though, professionally) She can call her recruiter or her interviewer and just ask what she may be able to change again or what the rejection reason was. This could be a good thing (we filled up all the spaces we had for the roles you checked off.....) and help to boost spirits some. As to general things, check off as many roles as possible, let them know you are definitely available for FA or just Fall, get the application in ASAP and get to a presentation ASAP so she can do her interview ASAP, and just to smile and think up some answers to some of the questions posted on here so there are less ummms and pauses (not that this is always a problem, but it shows some prep). don't know if she did any of this, but just general tips. a recruiter could definitely let her know a general overview of why. Someone aid they didn't get in because they didn't get the fact that they liked Disney or had the Disney spirit enough, the interviewer didn't get that feeling. Send my deepest regrets and sadness!!! A ton of pixie dust, well wishes, everything to her when she applies!!! It's definitely hard!!!
Did she do an audition, and did she check off a lot of roles, or which did she check off, if I can ask?
Sorry this is so long!!! And my best wishes again!!!
(Try to) Have a Magical Day!!!

A lot of good suggestions were already posted.

Firstly, tell her not to give up! Some people get rejected one semester, but get accepted the following one and have a great time. It's not all a bad thing either, because she needs to learn rejection. She can take a really good experience out of this. Learning how to take the rejection, let it eat you up for a minute, and then let it go and try again later. :)

Secondly, during the interview, she needs to smile even though it's over the phone. Be as peppy as humanly possible (if you feel over-pepped and silly, then it's the perfect amount!) and tell the interviewer how much this means to you, how long you've been planning for it, and how much you adore Disney.

I wish her good luck in the future! :)

My origional roomie didnt get in on these boards (jelliebean) ::sobs:: She's going to put in for the Spring Adv instead and I'm gonna extend!

I'm sorry to hear she was rejected. That's a really hard thing to go through.

Now, some things I would suggest if she chooses to apply again (some have already been mentioned):
*Apply Early- the CP has gotten extremely popular, and more people have been applying each semester (however, this also means more are getting rejected).

*Pick Several Roles- My recruiter always recommends picking as many roles as possible. He recommends 4-5 at least. This can help the chance of getting into the CP.

I wish her the best of luck for next time. :wizard:

Sorry to hear that she didn't receive an offer.

As some people have stated, if she reapplies, make sure that she checks off as many roles as possible on the Role Checklist.

She can also call the Recruiting office and ask to speak to her Support Recruiter. He or she can often give feedback on the interview. This can be helpful for next time seeing as how she thought her interview went really well.

All good suggestions. . I would also tell her to find a job with customer service and cash handling like at a movie theater or retail part time/full time whatever. Get some experience, save cash and apply again next semester. So if she does get in she will have some money and experience to take with her.

Aw, I know exactly how she feels. I applied for this fall and I didn't make it either. I'm almost positive its because I didn't put enough roles down.

Im personally going to put a couple of roles that I'm just sort of 50/50 on that I wasn't willing to do the first time around (but I dont want to wait longer than a year!) and I think that will help a lot. Also, just the experience of having been through this whole process will help a lot! I know that I read and read about the character auditions but still when I was actually there, I was completely overwhelmed. There's nothing like the real thing. Now she'll be more prepared for the next time around.

What roles did she choose and when did she apply?

Best of luck to her in the future and maybe we'll end up on the same program!
