DD10-To Shave or Not to Shave.....That is the Question!

  • Yes! Let her shave her legs.

  • No! She should wait until she is 13.

Actually this topic is one that the DIS has helped change my mind about. Until I came to the DIS I would have said 13 or so but after reading the responses here I have to agree.

DD is pretty hairy (unlike me) so I will probably let her shave whenever she is ready.

My 8yo DD has dark hair on her legs, my 11yo DD hasn't started shaving yet but her legs aren't too bad. She told me once that she thinks they both need to start shaving at the same time since her sister will need to earlier.

I know when my 11yo DD says she wants to I'll get her what she needs. If my 8yo wants to start then I'll let her.

A good book on all these topics is The Care & Keeping of You, it's an American Girl book and talks about shaving and all kinds of other hygeine matters. My 11yo has it and so has a good idea of what to expect. :)

I remember being in 6th or 7th grade and getting teased about the dark hair on my legs. I can't remember when I actually started shaving or talking to my mother about it. I think she may have let me use her electric razor at first.

I like the Venus razor, I bought it after someone here mentioned it. It is very smooth.

Funny this thead came up, I had a dream last night that I was out somewhere with a sleeveless top and looked under my arms and the hair was long and thick like fur! Yikes! I checked first thing when I woke up!

You helped me feel more comfortable about my DD shaving. She is 10 and ahe hasn't asked to start yet but I noticed this summer that her hair was getting to that point. Thank goodness she's blonde. I have been waiting for her to ask and I wasn't sure what I would say but now it will be yes!

My sister started shaving at about 9 because she had dark hairy legs. I didn't start until later because I really didn't need too.

I second the Care and Keeping of You. It is a well written book and answers a lot of questions.

Pick your battles carefully! That is my advice LOL

MY DD turned 11 last March and I let her start shaving after Christmas. We made an event of going to the store and buying a razor and shaving cream. This is not to say that I was happy with her doing it. I want to prolong childhood as long as possible but when your 11 yr old has breasts...I don't think shaving is a big deal :D
