Remember not too long ago we had a problem with her getting a C in reading?
Well, after our reprimand she immediately brough her grade up again , but what we didn't know is that a friend of hers was telling her that a C is still ok because you can still get by . This is coming from a kid that got a D+ in social studies and a C- in Science.
DD asked the friend what her parents said when they saw the report card and she said nothing, her mother took her out to Wendy's and her father did not even see the report card.
So yesterday we are talking about school and dd tells me that the friend has been given the papers to go to summer school for six weeks, five hours a day. She said the friend is furious. Of course I told her , see how it pays off to work hard during the year? C's don't get you by and if you want to go to Harvard ( like dd wants to go ) , C's won't get you anywhere no matter how much money you have.
I hope she doesn't allow herself to be influenced by anyone again , now she knows that this kid is going to be in school everyday while dd will be in the waterpark having fun with her friends.

Good for your DD! That's great! :) And yesterday in a thread, someone's child had nothing above an "F" and is being promoted. Amazing and a shame.

Hmmm, lesson very well learned, I hope. :D

I read that Pin Wizard, it's a shame that the school allows that, they probably don't care because they need the room for the next year.
DD knows now that summer school is not a joke, it's there and if you want to get by with C's , you will spend six weeks of the summer in school. I think this was also a wake up call about her friend.

I am a teacher working on final report cards this weekend. There are a a few students in my class that should be held back, but because it is a transition year from grade school to middle school, the parents do not want them held back. I have been in contact with the parents all year about their son/daughter's grades, but there is still no improvement. At least one of my students will have mostly D's and a few R's. It is furstrating as a teacher to not be able to hold back the ones that are not doing the work. I think it is time for a wake up call for some of these kids. They are quite capable of doing the work, they just don't do it.

Mickey65, I find myself sometimes having a bit of a hard time communicating with teachers because they are so used to getting blamed when things go wrong with students that they get defensive real quick. It's kind of hard for them to see that I am there to try to work through the problem in my child's best academic interest. Luckily since I work in the school , 99% of the teachers let me know immediately when something changes, but there are always some that don't say a word until much later, like dd's homeroom teacher this year.
I give all of my kids teachers the benefit of the doubt because I know my children and I know which buttons they will try to push to see how far they can get and get away with things. I don't know what is going to happen next year or in high school , one will be in middle school next year , let's hope she does as good as she has in elementary.

I'm glad your daughter brought her grade up.
