DD just diagnosed with tree nut allergies and others...

Wow, I did not know that about the mickey bars. Special Food Allergy Diet at disney had them on the safe page. My DS 11 had them last year with no problem (peanut, tree nut allergy).

Are they the same equipment or the same facility?

Also for the epipens: remember to watch the temperatures. I have had to ditch a few epipens that my son either forgot in his basketball bag in the car in winter and it went to cold or his baseball bag in the car and it was too hot. I did not want to take the chance. I have insurance but it is still 40 bucks an epipen. I get quite a few a year to have in different locations, bags etc and I have 2 in the school and 1 in his locker/binder.

Thats good to know about the chocolate.

One problem is alot of the baked goods and rolls and stuff. We had good experiences pretty much everywhere last year. Also the churros in Mexico were good, ( I read the binder at the CS) and DS was so happy to try a new dessert other than ice cream. We also had the divvys cookies. Someone said the chocolate cake at the cs were fine which I will try to check out this year.

Wow, so it seems the epipens really do cost that much. The good news is that we're changing insurances soon due to DH's new job so we'll have much better coverage. After I read (and read and read!) the instructions for the epipen, I took a good look at it and thought it looked discolored. Until I realized I was holding my thumb on the back of the little window! Duh! Anyhow, it came with a tester pen as well so I feel more relaxed about using it if it ever came to that.

Great tip on asking to see the epipen first to check it's expiration date too. Thanks!

I appreciate the tips about Mickey bars and other Disney snacks. She's had the chocolate Mickey bar, Itzakadoozie and the Mickey ice cream sandwich last year as well without incident.

Thanks clanmcculloch for the chocolate bar link too! I'm dealing with gluten intolerance as well and those sound like they'd be great for BOTH my DD and myself! I just can't tell you all how much better you're making me feel about this whole thing! Heck, I might even be able to enjoy myself at Disney!

As you are learning about food allergies, be cautious of thinking, "they had it before, so it will be fine." You will find that is the concern with items made in same facilities or on same manufacturing lines. The allergen "may" be present, but it might not always be present. Some studies have shown, 30% of the time, cross contamination can occur.

I did speak directly to someone at Nestle's twice and was assured the Mickey ice cream bars are made on the same line as tree nuts, but not peanuts. That is why I think they are on the peanut safe treat list.

You will find eventually what your comfort zone is regarding eating things in shared facilities or production lines. My comfort zone (any many on the allergy boards) is a little leary of Nestle.
