Yesterday, DD was leaving school and accidently stepped on a little tree frog. She didn't see him until to late. She came home and cried and cried. I'm an animal lover to, but it was an accident. Good grief! I hope she never hits anything on the road!

I once burried a road-kill squirrel in my flower bed because ds, then 4, was so upset. He gets it from me--I can't even kill a bug without trying to shoo it out of the house first.

It's nice that she cares, although I do understand you being concerned about her sensitivity. She sounds like a sweet girl.

Both my girls are like that, and they got it from me. It's hard to deal with sometimes.

Sounds like DH. He is so bad that he doesn't even kill spiders we find in the house, he takes them outside!!! (I just squish them!!)

How old is your DD? I probably would have done that too when I was little. I still cry when I see a cat or especially a kitten that has been hit by a car. Thank goodness I've never hit anything. I wouldn't be able to handle it. Spiders are a different story. I have no problem squishing those, unless they're really big, then I have to call DH.

Hey at least she cares. I think we have too many kids that want to hurt animals.

BTW, about 11 years ago I ran over a frog with the lawnmower. I finally got up my courage and mowed the lawn a few weeks ago. (Dh has been working a lot of overtime) You have no idea how hard that was!! I just kept imagining a frog jumping out in front of the lawnmower!!! :earseek:

Awww. I feel bad for her. I'm 41 years old and I'm still like that, and I hope both of my kids are that sensitive too. You can tell that your daughter has a great heart.

Peg, Kendall is a very sweet girl - I would rather her have deep feelings than none at all. How did her audition go???? She has our very best wishes for success!!!!!! :cheer2:

My sister sucessfully hit and killed two squirrels and a seagull the first day she drove to school. Want to see someone cry a lot? :rotfl:

ETA: I was laughing because she is a big time animal lover and did NOT mean to hit any animals...it was just very, very bad luck.

Be glad. Last year I caught another teacher's son stomping a frog to death on the playground "just because". We had many very upset kids who witnessed the frog attack. I think I'd rather mine was upset than the "frog destroyer".

Of course, I think a hundred years ago, that would've just been a "boys will be boys" type moment.............any centarians have a comment on that?

Thank you, everyone. She is feeling much better today. She did have a problem with one boy at school who kept calling her "frog killer". I just told her to ignore him. Fortunately, one of the teachers swept away the remains so she didn't have to see it again.

FranP, the audition went well. We haven't heard anything, but it sometimes takes a long time to hear. We waited over a year to hear about her "Retro News" show. She starts filming that on September 21st.

My daughter, 15, would have done the exact same thing. She is extremely sensitive, especially about animals. A few recent examples-

I've been trying in vain to find a luau, (we are going to Hawaii over Christmas), that does NOT make the cooked pig a part of the ceremony, but no luck. She would never attend such a ceremony.

We ate at a restaurant the other night and my husband ordered steak. When it was brought to the table, it had a little plastic cow pick stuck in it. DD15 got tears in her eyes.

We were driving down the highway and there was a big ant crawling on the floor by her feet. She wanted me to pull over so she could release it into the woods.

Just thinking about an animal getting hurt can cause her to cry. She also will get upset if she sees someone who looks sad, (a homeless person, or someone who just looks a little different). A few months ago, I remember we were in a store waiting in line and I looked at her and she was tearing up. When we got outside I asked her what was the matter. Seems there was an elderly gentleman walking around wheeling an oxygen tank with him. She was so upset and felt so bad for him.

She certainly wears her heart on her sleeve. So, I know exactly what you are talking about! Hope your daughter is feeling better!

I did that too, only I didn't kill him right away -- just scalped him. The big joke (at my expense) in my house for a long time was "Bud--Weis--OW!"

I guess it is good that we having such caring children, but I worry about how they will cope in today's not so caring world.
