I picked DD up a little while ago from her concert choir retreat. She has 17 mosquito bites. One is on her eye lid and one is on her chin. Her eye lid has swelled to the point that she is having trouble seeing. She put on botanical repellant, but it didn't help a bit. She is allergic to DEET. She looks so bad. I'd take her to a clinic, but everything is closed now due to the hurricane which is knocking on our door. I tried to stop at a Walgreens on the way home to talk to a pharmacist, but they said they were closing and wouldn't let us in. I guess I'll have her put cold compresses on her eye and use Benedryl on the rest. She is so exhausted that she will probably sleep through the hurricane, let alone the mosquito bites. If her eye still looks bad after the storm passes, I'll take her to the doctor.

I swear, I'm going to wrap her in tissue and stick her in a box until she is 21!

My dd came home from Girl Scout camp like that two years ago, along with a rash on her thighs that the dr. had to prescribe antibiotics for :(

Besides putting Benadryl on the bites, take Benadryl or another antihistamine by mouth.

I am so allergic to mosquito bites. This helps me a lot.

I second this. ::yes::

That is the one thing I am dreading about our upcoming WDW trip. Mosquito bites on me get the size of a half dollar. I react so badly. I have my arsenal of stuff, but I am still worried about it.

Sending anti-itch PD to your DD! :)

I dont know if this will help but my mom did it for me once. Make a thick batch of oatmeal and cool it. Then apply. It will help to take the itch out. Esp. where the eyelid is since you dont want to put anything that may get into the eye and sting it.

Hope your DD feels better in the morning and you all make it through Jeanne unscathed.
BTW, I second the internal benadryl AND the oatmeal. I'm highly allergic to bites and both have helped me.

Sorry about all of the bites but glad that your DD is home safely. Just a word of caution about using the Benadryl cream and taking an oral dose. DD had a bite one time and we did the same thing, used the cream and gave the oral dose and we ended up overdosing her! She had a terrible reaction! Not that it will definitely happen to you but something to be aware of.

Hope she feels better in the morning and that you fare well through the hurricane.
