DD is currently in Kansas City. She went to a Marine Ball with her boyfriend over the weekend. She was supposed to fly back to Tallahassee tonight. The airline has cancelled her flight due to Ida. Of course, she is happy. She gets to spend another day with her boyfriend.

I was pleasantly surprised to find that she had purchased flight insurance. The airlines switched her flight to Wednesday with no penalty. Good girl! Now, I don't have to worry about her flying in through the storm. We flew into Orlando International just before tropical storm Wilma and it wasn't a pleasant experience!

She sounds like a smart girl to have bought flight insurance.:thumbsup2

I opened this thread thinking it was going to say she was stuck there with no forseeable way home. But wow - that's awesome! Both for the insurance, and already being rebooked. :thumbsup2

But the insurance does not matter. Since the airline canceled the flight, it is their responsibility to still transport her at no additional charges at her selection of flight or provide a full refund at her choice.

That's what I thought too. i've had flights cancelled due to storms & others due to mechanical problems. They always rebooked us. Didn't cost us anything. And they have even put us up with hotel & meal vouchers for the night.

We had a flight cancelled due to weather. They said since it was weather and not their fault (not a mechanical failure, etc. ) that they were not responsible for getting us food or lodging. We ended up in some airport hotel that didn't even have a restaurant. We had to walk to a nearby hotel that DID have a restaurant, but it was VERY pricey for dinner. We were out about about $400 total (we had to pay for the hotel we actually stayed in, the hotel where we had reservations that we DIDN'T get to stay in that night, plus the overpriced bad hotel food). :sad2:

That's true, but I'm not going to tell DD that. She thinks she did something very responsible by buying the insurance. She took the initiative to purchase the tickets with the insurance and then arrange her new flight when the original was cancelled. She did all this without calling me to help. She's growing up and becoming a responsible person. I'm not going to burst her bubble!
