Dd asked her age while trick or treating last night

There is much worse things a 16 and 18 year old could be doing on Halloween night! I would much rather see them out ToTing than hearing about them being in a car accident after a party, etc. I really don't understand why it is an issue for them to go out and be young at heart again. Have we really gotten to the point of being that stingy that teens can't go have innocent fun!?

What about parents who carry a dressed up infant? Does anyone believe the infant is going to eat the candy?
We had an infant in a carriage come by with the new parents. They didn't take any candy even though I offered (and my neighbor who was with me). They said they were just excited and wanted to bring him/her - couldn't really tell as the baby was bundled up. I'm sure they took photos as did I for my kids first halloween. It's just fun. They even stayed and chatted with us for awhile and then they said they were heading home.

I know right? Didn't think my DD would be called weird for it and not normal. I guess I won't tell her what some people had to say about it. :rolleyes1

Since age was discussed so much leading up to TOTing I figured I'd post what my dd just told me. Her and her bf went out last night TOTing. They both had costumes on. One house asked my dd her age and she said 16. She got candy. Then her bf got asked And he said 18. They told him if he could buy cigarettes he was too old to get candy from them. Lol. I was in the camp that whover comes to my house gets candy. I just thought of the dis immediately when my dd told me this story today. Figured I'd share this with you guys

Wow, that's awful! I give to anyone who comes to the house! I feel you are never too old to enjoy life! Halloween is so much fun. So sorry that your dd and her bf had that experience :(

Oh it didn't bother them it all. I actually was asking her about TOTing and if she had any stories and she told me that. They only TOTed an hour or so and they did enjoy themselves. Thanks

An 18 year old a grown-bleep man and it's weird for him to be walking up to houses asking for candy.

Trick or treating at 16 and 18 is not normal.
I'm not really bothered by it. I'm just not going to pretend it's not weird.

Not true! It was totally normal in MA last night. We had just under 300 TOTers last night & several older people not just young.

I live in MA, it's not normal. Your post pretty much says it's not normal...several out of 300.

Sorry that you think my 16 year old is not normal for going trick or treating. You seem really bothered by it. I just thought since there were so mAny TOT threads that some of you would get a kick out of this.

I TOT'd until I was in college, and so did my friends. Nothing wrong with it. Don't let people bother you for thinking that way. I bet your daughter and her BF had great costumes!

Oh doesn't bother me except the bleep name calling which is rude. They did have lots of fun and my DD is working on her future college stuff now so I think she needs to have as much fun as she can. She missed TOT a few years when she was a cheerleader and they had football games on Halloween so maybe now she is catching up on what she missed those few years. Thanks.

OP, my 17 yr old dd went out with her 10 yr old sister. The older one had bought them matching bat costumes with money from her job. In the last several years our older dd was too cool for trick or treating, so I thought it was very sweet of her to accompany her little sister. Neither kid is a big candy person, but they both enjoy dressing up and the hayride. I'm glad your daughter had fun too!

Yep it would be really much better if they were doing the "normal" things for their age--partying, driving and drinking, getting in trouble. Or like the ones ds stopped at work last night-- stealing candy! (Insert eyeroll here)

A lot of older teens trick or treat, its not weird at all.

Who determines the ages to trick or treat? Other than at some organized event depending on donated candy, I have never seen ages posted.

Over the years I have seen adults in costume as well as older kids in costume escorting younger kids. Typically they might stand back without a container.

I wouldn't hold candy back from anyone who came to my door as long as they were polite. I have preferences - children up to 12 or 13 in costume but I would shell out to anyone. My only request (not demand but it's on my wish list) is that they let the wee ones have their time first then the big ones do 8-10pm or so. But yeah, if you're old enough for a boyfriend and old enough to buy smokes, I can see some crusty old people having problems with it.

....if it's weird for an 18-y-o to go out dressed, to go ToT'ing, I'm guessing that I'M weird too, to be 58 and still love to go on R'n'RC, ToT, and other WDW rides.....popcorn::

Older kids Trick or Treating are on the rise in my area too. It's fine by me. I usually buy too much candy and I'd rather give it away than have it tempting me in the house. :)

My 12 year old got questioned about her age last night... And no, she's not tall for her age and she was in a costume. She said the guy was weird and kind of creepy anyway. Thankfully she was with friends in their neighborhood, so it wasn't any of our neighbors. All of the teens who stopped by last night were very polite and had obviously worked hard on their costumes. Honestly, they were better behaved than some of the elementary school kids. They at least said trick or treat and thank you.
