DCL shows that they CAN cancel cruises for no reason - Wonder's 12/9/12 and on

The website pictures, seriously? DCL has made no announcement other than cancelling the later December cruises. Someone really thinks the pictures on the website ore an indicator of what is happening? I wouldn't, but to each their own.

Frankly, I think some people at DCL are having a good laugh at all the speculation here.

Anyone think that some of the Alaska trips might still be round trip? Are round trips more popular than one ways or vice versa?

My point is, while the GG bridge is picturesque, I find it odd that they include its picture when they only visit SF during the repositioning cruises (four times in two years).

There are actual round trip Pacific Coast cruises that leave from LA and stop in SF, SD and Ensenada. I just booked one for Sept 2012. I think there are 3-4 of them in Sept. They are not repositioning cruises. It makes sense that they'd want to advertise them too.

There are more ships doing round-trip Alaska cruises than one-way cruises, so I guess that makes them more popular(Round-trip airfare to Seattle is less expensive than open-jaw air into Vancouver and out of Anchorage.) I have done two of each, and I prefer the one-way cruise plus a land trip (on my own with a rental car). I could see DCL offering one-way cruises, but I'm sure they'd want to cash in on the land trip portion that other cruise lines offer (aka "cruisetours") - probably with a tie-in with an Adventure$ By Di$ney trip. :teeth:"

The primary benefits of a one way (i.e., Seattle to Anchorage) Alaska cruise are:

1) The opportunity to sail Glacier Bay, if the cruise line has permission to sail there

2) The opportunity to combine the cruise with a land tour of Alaska (Denali, etc.)

DCL can't sail Glacier Bay--they don't have a permit and the authorities are not handing out more permits. Nor do they have any set-up to do land tours at this point. There's nothing special about going to Anchorage itself, and as you know it's quite a bit more expensive to get back from there.

In sum, if DCL stays in Alaska I would expect them to stick with roundtrips for the foreseeable future.

There are no one-way Alaska cruises that begin or end in Seattle because of the PVSA. All begin or end in Vancouver.

One-way cruises that don't go to Glacier Bay usually go to Hubbard Glacier. While Glacier Bay National Park is considered by many to be the best, there's nothing shabby about Hubbard Glacier!

I agree that DCL will probably stick with round-trip cruises for the foreseeable future because they are more convenient than one-ways. For the same reason, DCL will probably continue with round-trip sailings in Europe, rather than Barcelona to Venice (for example).

That's actually good news for me because it means I will be able to book the first day instead of waiting behind the gold and platinum CC members. If they do one way Hawaii I won't be able to take that trip because by the time I could book it I'll be priced out. I'd have to wait until the next year (if they offer it) as it won't be a new itinerary then.

What does PVSA mean?

Oh ok. So a new itinerary could be a one way out of Vancouver. Oh well. Glad I have at least one cruise booked for 2013 as I might get priced out on Alaska too. It will be interesting to see what they come up with.

It looks like there are three. Interesting. I hadn't noticed that before.

It would suck if disney scheduled the cruises to NOT coincide with school schedules. Some of us are stuck keeping our kids in school, darn it! LOL
I'd love to do a PC again. I had a blast in 2008!

I've never done a PC cruise, but if it was scheduled around a school break I'd be doing everything I could to be on it. It seems the cruises I'd love to be on though always fall during the school year.

Yup

According to crew last week, Magic will be in dry dock in Venice Aug 2012 for three months, total rehab.

First of all, we're scheduled for a 2-night cruise to nowhere on the Magic August 10th. Secondly, I find it hard to believe that Disney would go ahead and let three months worth of bookings take place knowing the ship is not going to be in service and have the headache of rescheduling all of them! :confused3 But anything is possible considering what they did to the MR cruises.

EDITED TO ADD -- just read ahead and saw the poster corrected the date to August 2013. That makes more sense. would love to sail on her after that big a rehab!

:goodvibes
They should give it Dream features during the dry dock. I know RCL gave the "older" ships features from the Oasis of the Seas.

6 new ships?! That would be awesome. Maybe with that, they will be better at announcing their itineraries and we won't have a huge debate speculating about it on the boards!:rotfl2:

HA HA -- if that's true, then maybe Disney's prices will finally come into line with those of other cruise lines :goodvibes (hey, one can dream :cloud9:).

The person who posted that came back to the board and cleared that up. It's Aug 2013.

When i was comparing Carnival and Disney, you would not believe the price difference. I could take 2 Carnival cruises and the price of those 2 cruises would equal 1 Disney cruise. But I decided to pay the extra $ and go on Disney. I hope its worth it!!

Seeing is believing. I cruised Carnival 3x before finally splurging on DCL. I'd rather cruise DCL once than Carnival twice. In fact, I'd rather go to work & save my vacation time for something else than cruise Carnival.
jmho.
