DCL shows that they CAN cancel cruises for no reason - Wonder's 12/9/12 and on

They also have their 2013 January - March Asia, South America, Hawaii, Australia, South Pacific cruises out already. Europe and Alaska cruises don't happen until later in the year.

DCL is now in a position where they don't have cruises for a ship and its now less than 12 months until those dates. Many cruisers plan much further in advance.

IMO, this lack of publication of cruise dates will not help DCL's bottom line. They'll be in a position where they have to discount in order to fill their ships.
DCL doesn't go to Asia, South America, Australia, or the South Pacific - other than the 2 cruises to Hawaii in 2012. It is assumed that DCL will go to Europe and Alaska in 2013, and they aren't late announcing those itineraries. In the past when DCL did announce Europe and Alaska before everyone else, I still wouldn't have booked either itinerary until I saw what the other cruise lines offered in those locations.

I would sure like to know what DCL plans with the Magic and Wonder in 2013. I have a dummy booking I want to change, and I have no interest in sailing on the Dream or Fantasy.

I guessed wrong about the itineraries coming out today. Now that I think about it, the day before Christmas eve is probably not a good day for reservation personnel or a big first day number of bookings. Let's hope they release the dates early in the new year.

Looking over the rumors of possible new cruises, the CC, Grand Turk, Turks & Caicos 5 day from Miami is definitely one I would want to book. I like most of the proposed Miami cruises (doesn't matter Wonder or Magic). DCL are you listening?

We did Grand Turk on Carnival in Oct it is fantastic. We were not supposed to go there but the Capt was able to get there and the best port of the cruise!

On the Disney Wonder right now. Rumor is that they are pulling out of LA and doing the Caribbean in the Winter and Alaska in the summer, with Panama Canal crossings back and forth. My live from thread is up on the trip reports board right now (holiday cruise).

In my opinion, I completely DISagree () that Disney is building 6 new ships. I simply do not see that as a possibility. Considering what it takes to get cruise ships, that just seems like a wild and far-fetched rumor.

Not that it matters because it's all speculation, but the most logical thing (I think) will happen is:

  • DCL remains in Mexico next year
  • They pull out after next year and move the Wonder to Galveston
  • The wonder will do Caribbean sailings from Galveston and then Panama Canal sailings to bring it back to the west coast for Alaska (possibly a Hawaii sailing or two hooked onto the front and back of the Alaska season. After that, back through the PC and back to the Caribbean.
  • The Magic will be moved to the East coast rotating through "unique" or "odd" itineraries. (Canada/New England and over to Europe for a few sailings there).

Who knows! We'll just have to wait and see who's right! :rolleyes1

Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays everybody! I wish everyone a safe and happy holiday weekend! :santa:

Any dates on the EBPC? I guess that's probably a stretch at getting accurate info.
Anyway, have a great cruise & Happy Holidays

Most cruise line companies when signing a contract with the ship yard will have in that contract that they are building X ship to delivered on X date with the option of X more ships to be built at a future date

This allows cruise lines to have a spot and option. If they don't do this then when they are ready to build a ship they have to go to the back of line per say meaning that the other cruise lines that already have that option in their contract get first pick before they offer the spot to someone with a new contract.

Doesn't mean they will build 6 new ships but they may have the option with the ship yard to do so if they decide in years to come that they want to add ships to their fleet

This is propably where the 6 ships comes into play not that they are definitely doing it

NO! NO! NO! Tell them they're not allowed to do that!!!! I have my heart set on a Spring break 2013 cruise :sad1:

Sigh...and say hi to the Wonder for me. Tell her I miss her. And have a wonderful cruise yourself! ...

That's good news.
I'll be happy if Disney stays on the west coast, even if it is just part time.

They should do the EBPC cruise around Memorial Day. that way our family could go w/o the kids missing school. sounds like a great way to kick off summer!

Here is what i think:

Magic: Jan-May, Sept-Dec: West Caribbean from Galveston. Summer: Europe. alternate b/t East and West Med

Wonder: PC cruise in Jan. Jan-May: 5 night Bahamas and 7 nt Carrib. from Miami. Summer: Alaksa with possible Hawaii before and after.

Dream: 3-5 nt Bahamas form Port Canaveral

Fantasy: 7 night East/West Carrib. from Port Canaveral

I'm aware :thumbsup2. I was a travel agent for 10 years and typically, when a cruise line had "plans" to release a new ship, the release of those ships were years off, which is why I mention this. It reads like people might assume or expect that 6 new ships are going to magically appear, and there's no way that's going to happen. If new ships are ordered, they would do it just as you said, that "X" ship or class of ship is scheduled for X date, etc. A great example of this is when Norwegian was bought out some 10 years ago and was "awarded" all of the new ships over X years as a part of their buyout. That's how/when all of the "newer" NCL ships were planned and scheduled. (It was right at the time NCL became the only line allowed to stop and start in Hawaii/an American port - because as part of their contract they were specifically getting ships registered in the US and not the Bahamas or some other place). Anyway - CruiseCritic posts a list of upcoming cruise ships that are "in the works" or planned. Or, like you said, at least they have a "placeholder" for a time frame in which they can build a new ship. CruiseCritic's list goes through new ships planned through 2015, and there is no space-holder for a Disney ship on the list. Not that this is the end all and be-all of what is and isn't planned, but I think it gives a pretty good idea. There's also the specific brand's rate of growth to consider. Disney's rate of growth in the number of ships they have and amount of time it's taken them to grow it is much slower compared to the rate of growth of other cruise lines. Knowing DCL representatives and working in the industry, I just don't think that they would plan such a large addition of ships to their fleet at one announcement. Even if they were considering say 6 ships over 12 years or something, I don't think they would announce them all. Personally, I think they would announce them in rounds of their release dates. So, at first they'd say 2 ships, and then they'd say "oh, 2 more ships in 2 years." But again - that's just my opinion. Disney is big on under promising and over delivering, and I think a strategy like this would suit them more.

Then again - I could be wrong!!! :rotfl2:

Have a happy holiday! :santa:

Just saying, a very reliable source told me there would be 6 new ships in the works. Didn't say in what time period.

A friend just informed me that www.disneycruiseline.com's main images are of their west coast offerings! Pacific Coast, Alaska, and Mexican Riviera. Hmmmmmmmmm?

Right now the main pages flips through 5 photos; AquaDuck, Alaska, Golden Gate Bridge, New York, and Castaway Cay. That said, I would doubt you can conclude anything from that, regardless of where the ships are headed in 2013, they still need to sell the existing 2012 cruises.

I just think it sad that the Wonder will be in Key West on NYE 2012 but leaving at 5 PM. Seems so wrong. Then again, Key West on New Years Eve is about as different from Disney as you can get. :)
Maybe I'll take the Panama Canal and then get off in Key West and stay for the party. j/k

Well, it is interesting that they include the Golden Gate Bridge and not Mexico.

I think Wonder will spend summer in Alaska/hawaii and the rest of the year in the Caribbean. I think Royal Carrib. does this (although i may be wrong) and works out well.

Magic will go to Europe in 2013 and leave from Galveston the rest of the year.
