"DCL Klondike Kruisers" - August 23, 2011 PART 2

But...you know your kids. What is the worst possible scenario they could get themselves into? :confused3

HTH,
k
Thanks for the info, I don't think either will get themselves into trouble on their own, and actually not too worried about DS. Probably will not give DD signout privileges as she may get herself lost, not as good of a navigator as DS, but DD is only 11.

Anyone else with older kids on the edge of either kids club? What will you do?

GOOD MORNING ALL

Well if we are lucky today all our snow will be gone. Weatherman says in the 60's by this weekend.

No idea, I've just read reports on other boards ( I don't remember exactly) that customs can get pretty backed up.

I am hoping that early it will not take to long. We thought 2 hours early should be ok. 4:30 Am I do not think anyone except the owls will be up.:lmao:

Thanks, but I don't know about that!! DH wants to do the White Pass Railroad and the bike ride down.

I have to agree with Roger that does sound fun. Tommy is thinking about the lumberjack thing too. He and Jim thought that would be fun (even though it was him that said no excursions) :rotfl::lmao:

YEAH!!!!!!! I have already started packing!

Your nuts girl. We still have 3+months to go:love::love:.
I think she is ready to go Joanne what do you think:laughing::laughing:
We do have new travel luggage for Alaska. The past 3 cruises have done a number on the old luggage:rotfl2::rotfl2:

I am glad you are starting to thaw! We are going to be in the 70's and 80's the rest of the week. Tommy is playing golf on Sat. I am going to ride along since I can not play until May. We will have to talk about 2012 in August.

What kind of luggage did you get? I have started looking for a new one because ours have seen better days. I really want to get a good set instead of what we have had in the past. I am looking at packing cubes too. I am packing my sweaters and fleece jackets as it gets warmer. I have my suit cases out in the spare rom and adding things as I think about it. We are taking Tommy's mom to WDW the first week of May. This will probably be the last trip she will be able to take. I hope she is upto enjoying the trip. She asked to go back one last time and wanted to stay at Animal Kingdom Lodge so that is were we are staying. I will have two with scooters which should be fun!

I haven't read this board for days so I just went back to page 3 and skimmed.

I know!!!! Maybe since Alaska is so new to all we have no idea what to say.

I just can't wait to go!!!

I'm sure that's part of it.

I have no idea what to pack. I thought I would pack seaters and winter things when I get out my summer stuff. Any ideas what to pack?

I'm sure you've heard this before but layers is the way to go. Shorts aren't very common. I'm taking jeans and slacks, tank tops, short sleeves, long sleeves, a fleece vest, and two sweatshirts. Also bringing silk long underwear, ear band, waterproof hiking boots, and rain jacket. It doesn't seem like a very glamorous cruise but I am taking a cocktail dress for formal night and semi formal night. It can warm up into the 70's and it can drop into the 40's soooooo with that being said long pants are for me. I also bought rain pants from LL Bean for the whole family. We can throw them in our backpacks and take them out if we need them...it rains a ton in Alaska especially when we are cruising. The rain isn't going to spoil our fun! Good luck!!!

Hey to LL Bean! We live 10 minutes away and DIL works there!

I had no idea about the rain. I need to look for water proof footwear.

I am not sure how I am going to stay under te two suitcase per person. Tommy will just have to wear the same thing everyday so I will have enough room for my stuff. I hate being cold and wet so this will help me get over the fact that we are not doing any excursion. We are meeting with the florist on Sat for DD wedding in Oct. I have a feeling this is going to be expensive. :scared1:

Sierra trading post.com seems to have the best prices....I love LL Bean but only when stuff is on sale. I'm a bargain shopper!

Cabela's too!

No no no!

I found our yellow Mickey poncho's that I am going to throw in.They will b able to see us coming!:thumbsup2

We have one clear WDW one. Maybe I can find something like it in Walmart or TArget. If not Dan has a light weight LL raincoat & pants.
I posted these on our Facebook page, but in case any of you aren't on there, these were taken in 2002 at glaciers near Anchorage and Seward. While I scanned these in and tried to reduce the noise, I did not tinker with the color. The blue in the glacier is actually what you see!

What time of year were these taken? I see you're all bundled up!

YEAH!!!!!!! I have already started packing!
I'm still wearing some of my winter clothes! I have done some packing in my mind though.

Whoops. I missed this in my multi quote. I'm with you - winter clothes are much bulkier and heavier than summer ones. But then we won't sweat as much so we cvan just wear the same stuff over and over!!

We got a 4 peice Samsonite at BJ's the same as Sam's Club for $150.00. It's real nice. It was originaly prices for over $200.00.
Im glad to your taking Tommys Mom She will have something to remember she did.
Talking about an Hawaian cruise is fun but not for us right now. If the good Lord is willing next April Nancy and I want to do another Road Trip to WDW. Taking 5 or6 days to get there and then staying at the World for a week or so.
In 2013 I will be 70 so I would love to Cruise on one of the new Boats to celebrate. To make it better I would love to have our cruising pals join us You and Tommy and Joanne and Roger. You guys are our second family. Thats what I would like to do.

2013 sounds to me. We did have such a great time last spring! I hope she will be able to go.

Nancy, the pics were taken at the end of September, up near Anchorage and Seward.

On the topic of luggage, we gradually replaced our stuff with Eagle Creek. Got it on Rei.com on clearance, and while still expensive, we're very happy with it.

HELLOOOOOO Everyone! I just received my Destination Alaska book today and it has a ton of coupons for the ports! I wasn't sure about spending the 5 dollars since it is free at the airports but I can see it was well worth it. I heard that they are near impossible to find at the airports or anywhere for that matter and since we are cruising at the end of the season I really wanted to make sure I got my hands on one. I sent the 5 dollars to them and they actually sent me two books via priority mail. There is A LOT of info in the book and it's about 1/2 inch thick describing restraunts and stores in ports. I am SO excited!
