DCL Has Their Protocol Out!!!

My husband already said he wants to cancel (this will be our 6th cancelled cruise) and I can’t say I disagree. I’m going to make a spreadsheet. We sail in September on the Fantasy in concierge and then a Christmas back to back on Fantasy in regular veranda. I hope things are different before Christmas. I just feel really sad and defeated today.

Too many families that would be separated or would operate in both spheres..

In my family adults are vaxxed but my 4 year old is not. So do you really want us operating in the unvaxxed sphere with her and not when she’s not with us?
No. Children of vaccinated parents would be given the same status. In Canada travel is being organized the same way for now…until those younger than 12 are vaccinated in thr fall/winter

lol…..it didn’t take much to make you happy!
The things I really wanted they've delivered on. I really wanted for us to not have to endure testing, and we won't as we're fully vaccinated. I really wanted to be able to be mask-free outdoors and on Castaway Cay, and that's going to be the case. I really wanted room service and twice-daily housekeeping, and those are going to continue. So yes, I'm happy.

I've been to Disney World twice since reopening, so I didn't entertain any notions that DCL wouldn't require masks anywhere, and I know Florida law, so I didn't entertain any notions that vaccinations would be a requirement to sail. I had realistic hopes and they were mostly fulfilled. And the fact that they're limiting capacity will be a positive bonus. My biggest complaints are the lack of hammocks and fish extenders, but oh well for now. Looking forward to our December cruise.

What change are you hoping for?

It seems like they're doing everything they can to discourage families with young kids from sailing. I don't blame them right now. It's just an observation.

Depends on the family- my kid knows kids clubs as were we go as a family (open house) so she doesn’t miss what she doesn’t know..

Did not see anywhere on the website about the cancellation policy if you don’t like the new protocols. Did I miss it? Maybe disney isn’t offering refunds to guests unhappy with the new rules, only a credit for another, later cruise?

Found it in an email from DCL. All cruises can be cancelled thru august 6 without penalty. Pretty fair.

not all insurance covers covid Related expenses. Unless it’s changed, it was expensive the last time I looked into it. Covid insurance was under the cancel for any reason policies.
Our insurance (and I suspect most insurance) covers travelers for illness, regardless of what the illness is. Cancelling because you're afraid of getting Covid is something else & that's covered by CFAR insurance. But typically you don't need CFAR coverage to be covered due to coming down with Covid.

DCL was not going to require vaccination. Ignoring Florida rule, CDC rule for 95% sailing does not exclude under 12s for vaccination. So they really had to go with protocols over vaccine, or else say no kids.

Is there any indication about how much they will reduce capacity?
We're booked for late December, and they've already closed bookings for insides & oceanviews. The verandah category keeps opening and closing (it's closed now), but the other two are consistently closed, every time I've looked (I look a lot as I'm always trying to nab the perfect stateroom). So that will reduce capacity significantly imo. As will a percentage of guests cancelling because they're not happy with the guidelines.

Reservations for and limit on time for kids clubs and masks everywhere inside even for fully vaxxed = deal breakers for us. We don’t sail until December, so I’ll hold out hope that things change for the better, but I’m preparing myself now that we will most likely cancel. (We didn’t even tell our kids about this rescheduled cruise, just in case we have to cancel. I’m tired of disappointing them.)

Photo Opportunities
Our professional photographers will be taking photos during dinner in our main dining rooms. Photographers will also be roaming the top decks and will be stationed at iconic ship locations and in front of fun photo backdrops for memorable shots with family and friends. Guests may briefly remove their face coverings to take photos while stationary and maintaining physical distancing.

Glad for the bolded above and what will probably keep me from cancelling my Nov cruise.

In the same boat. Holding out hope for spring 2022. Had to cancel last year and kids were brutally disappointed. No basketball hoops for teens, lack of shows and club limits will be deal breakers for us. We have gone to resorts this year with one hour per day limits on pools and activity areas and that was not fun at all. Spending this kind of money for reduced experiences…time will tell…
