DCL cutting back on little things?

I was on one of the first cruises after the transatlantic last year and you could kind of tell they had a mishmash of supplies - some American, some European. Could be the potato chip issue.

As for Mickey, on our Iceland/Norway cruise, there was apparently an scheduling snafu with Mickey one night in AP and he was somewhere else, according to our server. Because it was such a long cruise, and we happened to have another night in AP, they did the show another night.

I heard the recent transatlantic cruise on Magic caused food restocking problems and the time changes got to some of the crew. Maybe there is some truth to it.
I was on that cruise, definitely had issues with food restocking (we were so glad to port after the sea days because food got better then!), and the time changes were really tough on everyone.

We did have Sorcerer Mickey though.

If I get to Palo the week of 14th I will look for them (Magic)....or are they only on the Dream class ships? Honestly never noticed them or was told about them by Palo servers.

Don't know if it's Dream class-specific, but I did have them on our Fantasy cruise this past June:

I wasn't told about it. I just noticed it after I had drunk the tea down a bit. While I think it's nice, I usually find that iced tea is made much stronger than I prefer (I mean it's supposed to be a clear liquid), and I like the (regular) ice cubes to dilute it out a bit.

It's not just the Dream Class. I was on the Wonder last month and they had the iced tea ice cubes at Palo for both dinner and brunch.

Just off the Magic, and while we had a wonderful time, we noticed a few little things that have apparently been dropped by DCL. First, the animation show at AP ended with the parade of servers in their colorful vests, but for the first time in our experience on either the Magic or Wonder, there was no appearance by Sorcerer Mickey. Second, the quick serve locations on deck 9 did not have Lays chips available - when I asked, they told me all they had were fries. And third, the iced tea in Palo had plain ice cubes rather than the ones made with frozen tea. Hopefully these were just random things on this cruise and not part of a trend.

Which cruise were you on? The 5 night to Canada? Just curious do you remember your dining rotation? I was on this cruise and had ACCLA and the first night of AP Sorcerer Mickey showed up for us and we had the show and everything, odd that you didn't but maybe it was due to your dining rotation?

I think the Lays chips thing is only for quick service on the Dream class ships? I don't remember them on the classic ships so it could just be a perk of the classic ships

The ice cubes thing I can't comment on because I don't drink iced tea at Palo but didn't realize they even did that in the past

I'm really sorry... and perhaps its a timing thing... but what has DCL nation turned into? Talk about first world problems. And this isn't even that! I mean, chips??!!! CHIPS? ICE CUBES?! Who even wants to cruise anymore. I think back to when i was thankful to be on a cruise, enjoying be waited on.. had some decent weather and seas. I'm sure its me... i think i need to stay off the forums for a while. :crazy2:

In reality pretty much everything that's discussed here would be a "first world problem". Not many third world cruise lines.

If it bothers you, then, yes, take a sabbatical.

Now more than ever, it is nice to have a place to think about ice cubes and chips and dining room attire. Plenty of time in the day for the serious stuff. It is nice to have a refuge. After all, isn't that what a vacation is, a break from (some of) the responsibilities of daily life? So these message boards are like a mini-vacation in the middle of a responsible day.

What? No more pretzels???? NO!
The big, soft pretzels at the quick serve location on the pool deck are gone. You can now purchase them in the pub off the pub menu. One note, they are made to order, so it takes a while to get them.

There was at least one report that there were still the pretzels at the quick serve on the last sea day on the Fantasy. Don't know if that's common.

Seems variable and hopefully not a trend. The quip about Mickey being sick is a possibility though - the first night of the cruise (we were in AP the next day) was about as rough as I've ever encountered (and I've been on boats large and small for most of my life) due to swells from Hurricane Maria (per the captain). I was fine - fortunately that stuff doesn't bother me - but even many of the crew had issues. Our assistant server didn't get sick, but told us that one violent jolt caused her to fall and hit her head. Thankfully she was OK, but she told us that a lot of her crew mates had very rough nights/mornings.

That could explain why they didn't have someone to don the Mickey Sorcerer costume the night that you were in Animator's. As far as the chips go, I have only seen them onboard the big ships and at Castaway Cay.

We were quite disappointed about the pretzels, too! We asked about them at the pizza place and were told that they didn't have them.

Yes, that's the cruise. Our rotation was LAACL. On night 2 they did the whole procession with the servers in their colorful vests to the Fantasmic theme, but no Sorcerer Mickey.

As I said, we had a great time on the cruise. Just mentioning a couple of little things that seem to have changed, and that I thought might be of interest to others on the board. Sorry if you were offended.

So just out of curiousity did you have meet and greet tickets with the princesses? I ask because we had them on Day 2 Sea Day and Belle was there, but by Day 4 she was not there for the second set of princess meet and greet tickets, I noticed while on the elevator overlooking the atrium and also a mom in the elevator was expressing disappointment because she had M&G tickets for day 4 sea day for princesses... I also noticed belle wasn't at the Royal Tea Party, perhaps that's just a normal thing but I thought all the princesses on the boat usually make an appearance at the Royal Tea Party, given the expense of it all and it's really like a 30 min thing for the princesses to deal with.... so I set up this story with the fact that I am leaning towards the conclusion that perhaps belle was sick because she was essentially MIA after the M&G at 9:00-10:00 on sea day on day 2... I wonder if perhaps the person playing Mickey had a similar situation? That Night 1 was really rocky and could have affected the crew... just odd that they wouldn't do the whole show in AP for you, it's like a 90 sec appearance by Mickey so one would assume it wouldn't be a big deal.... IDK, while we certainly enjoyed our time on this cruise, it was certainly different than what we've experienced, there were a lot of mixed things in terms of planning and service... sorry for my ramble, I am going to write a trip report but this is definitely odd OP but like not surprising given how things unfolded on the cruise if you know what I mean? You know because you were there... there was something off in terms of execution

Yeah our first cruise, no show or Mickey, so I was surprised to see the show and Mickey on out 2nd cruise. I didn't know what to expect back then.
Sometimes there are technical issues that prevent it. Personally I think the servers should be up front about it when it happens, but I can understand why they may not make a big deal out of it.

They also don't usually do the show if the cruise doesn't have enough nights that everyone gets to be in AP at least once during the cruise.

Additionally, as others have said there is no Mickey in AP on the Dream or Fantasy unless it.is a rare longer cruise on them due to the different t shows it has.

On a 7 night cruise, would the expectation be that the Animator's Palace "show" with Mickey would only be on the night of the standard rotational, or would it generally be on the other nights as well?

I often have to take breaks from this forum. It's all I can do not to call out the OP of one of the current popular threads.

I think it's a side effect of the high rates. People tend to notice the changes and the cuts more than the usual.
