DCL carry-on alcohol policy changing Sept. 30 2015

I know this has been asked but I can't find it...it is 2 bottles of wine OR the 6 beers? No combination of wine and beer?

That's my understanding... 2 bottles of wine OR 2 bottles of champaign OR 6 beers at each port per adult age 21+. You can switch up at different ports (for example, wine at Port Canaveral then beer at Nassau) but it can't be combined at the same port (no 1 bottle of wine and 3 beers).

It'll be interesting to see how this plays out and whether DCL makes any adjustments to the policy as initially stated.

I guess I never realized DCL old policy because I never take alcohol but other cruise lines have been this way for years. I know CCL and RCCL and Celebrity do not allow it so I don't think this would be a reason not to sail DCL. If they quit allowing cokes or water I might have a problem!

I know this has been kind of beat to death on this and other threads but it wasn't the limits on alcohol as much as how they implemented the change. For many of us, it came after our PIF date, so we had booked and paid for the cruise under one policy and now, with no way to cancel, are forced to adhere to a more restricted policy.

DH and I don't drink beer or wine usually so it leaves us with no options other than to buy on the ship (and we can't even order a bottle of our preferred beverage to drink in our room because you can only order beer and wine packages).

Then when people tried to express their displeasure to DCL, everyone either received canned responses or no response at all. DCL really just snubbed everyone that had an issue with how the policy was presented. Comments on facebook were deleted as soon as they were posted, etc. That is why many people have said that this may be their last Disney cruise. Who knows what the next change will be. It is industry standard to charge for the kids clubs in the evenings on most cruise lines. Maybe without warning they will start charging for the Oceaneers Club and Lab. I'm betting that some of those people that didn't understand why we were upset about the alcohol policy change will understand once they have to change their budget at the last minute to start paying for the clubs (or some other benefit that is included now).

This was also my problem with DCL, not the limits, but the way they did it and the timing.

Not sure about Celebrity, but Royal allows 2 bottles of wine per stateroom. Not as much as Disney, but it's something.

From what I heard, they were SO rude.

My two guesses are either charging for Oceaneer club/Edge/Vibe in some fashion. Not %100, mind you, but maybe after 10 or midnight. My other guess is the sodas and other "free" drinks. I anticipate a drinks package and one of their next few changes.

So word on the street is on the Magic they are not letting the beer and wine onboard now. Anyone heard about this?

So basically they are now not letting you restock at the ports like they stated.

Yup!! Somebody just posted about that! They tried bringing back on board in port and nothing was allowed, they tried beer wine and liquor

"Effective for cruises embarking on or after September 30, 2015, Disney Cruise Line Guests 21 years and older may bring a maximum of 2 bottles of unopened wine or champagne (no larger than 750 ml) or 6 beers (no larger than 12 ounces) on board at the beginning of the voyage and at each port-of-call."

Are people saying this is not what is really happening?

YES, that they tried replinishing their supply like they said "at each port of call" and they couldn't bring it on board and take it with them to their room. They made it them check it for holding till end of the cruise. I'll try to find where I read that

This was shared in our cruise group. Maybe they are playing the we said and at each port of call but no where does it say you can take it to your room in the new rules. I can only imagine the craziness that will be to come as they try to enforce this new policy

Ok, I was wondering exactly this. We cruised on September 12. While in security line the cm noticed my rolling backpack and mentioned the changes coming. I mentioned that at least we could replenish at ports and he said NO you can't do that. He said they would take it away. I blew this comment off because I knew I read it differently. So to see this is exactly happening is disturbing.

So not only does DCL flub the implementation of the new policy by enacting it on people who were already PIF and then act tone deaf when cruisers complain, they then refuse to follow the policy as they wrote it.

That thread on a different board got shut down bc they felt the subject has been beaten to death but my feeling is if Disney is changing a rule they have just put into place it is not right. For those going on vacation soon this is just not right.

In ports of call, DCL either never allowed any guests to bring on alcohol or confiscated it until the end of the cruise. I was told that this was borne from both safety/customs issues with local authorities as well as the level of docking fees paid by DCL for that privilege.

I agree that the announcement could have been articulated better.

Can you explain what you mean by the customs thing? They don't take cigarettes or cigars so why would they take alcohol?

That hasn't been the experience of most DCL cruisers. Many have purchased liquor (rum, mostly) in ports and brought it onboard to consume during the cruise.

no its not. i have often brought back a bottle of wine from ports and when in cozumel i have always picked up tequila as this is what my house sitter drinks. dh does not drink and i seldom do, other than a glass of wine, so its our gift to her. never have we had anything taken from us.
