yes, i just did that, you can book everything through ms, after booking your rooms ask to be transfer to make your dcl. and i had to book one person on points to get a cash discount for the rest of the family, and you have to pay for the cash ressies with a credit card when booking , plus your $75 fee up front. im not sure if i had a new ms, but i thought you could just book cash ressies with out a points ressies, im not sure but i was not offer to pay cash for the entire ressies, i had to use some points. maybe someone could help out with that question.
;)

Hi,

Thanks this helps a lot. So if I book with cash for DCL, I will get a discount??? How much. PM the answer. Thanks!

Is the cash discount a secret (answers by PM's & emails)? I would like to know what it is, too, and I am sure others are interested. We did our first DCL cruise (4 day) paying half in points and half cash. I thought it was really expensive then - like $1200 for one person for 4 days even with a verandah room. We are doing a 7-day next fall (2004) for around $2500 (verandah room). I think we really got taken the first time around, but we just had to go on a Disney cruise! Next cruise will be our third on DCL. Love the Magic!!

no, its no secret, any dvc member can call ms and get quotes, im sure each cruise discount is different, depends on which cruise you are going on and when, i personally dont think it is much of a discount considering you have to pay $75 fee.

4 day cruise april 11 Easter cat. 8

adult 154 points or 1120 cash
child 13/up 98 points or 775 cash
child 6/12 91 points or 620 cash

plus $75 fee

you do have to pay up front for the whole cruise and fee at the time of booking and if you cancel your trip your points become reservation points(can not be used at the dvc resorts) and you loose your $75.

when i checked the disney cruise line website, the same day going through dcl it was $3777.00 and if i were to book through dvc (and im not sure if you would have to book one person on points to book the rest on cash) it would be $3710.
now i just checked and with dcl and its $3977.so it went up $200 in the last 2 days.

and this paying cash and not any transfer fees or insurance.;)

DVC can only book DCL cruises if you are going to be paying for one person with points, if you are paying cash for the entire cruise, you'll have to call DCL directly. There is no DVC discount on cruises, just a DVC specially negotiated rate which is used when members book part points part cash for their reservations. Usually this can be more expensive than booking directly through DCL, but sometimes it does work out in DVC advantage.

thank you for the info on booking points and cash together, i knew i read that somewhere and since ms didnt offer me all cash ressies, i assume that, is what it was-
and when i was quoted cash price, ms did use the word "discounted ". whether or not she made a mistake in using the word discounted , that iam not sure, but as you can see i compared the two prices together and there is a slight lower price through dvc. but like i said it all depends on when your going and which cruise and if its avalaible and when you book.;)

Lori,

That's what I wanted to know thanks!!!

3 Adults for 7 days on the Magic late june of next year for $2442 total with a $75 credit for booking from AAA, $50 credit for using the Disney CC and free soda mugs for all. I think the only time DVC members have been able to do cash only was the member cruise.

dean, what cat. is that $$ quote for ? sounds great!
ill have to check it out. thanks;)

It's a cat 11. I actually have 2 different reservations at this time as Sam's was $110 cheaper and I'm trying to decide which one to keep. If they do FL reseident prices, AAA will be the best by far. If not, I'll likely go with Sam's. I think the price has gone up some since I booked back in the spring. The point was that if you plan ahead and look for a great deal, one is frequently available. The problem with DVC is that the discounted rack rate is usually significantly higher than the advance early booking discounts. That combined with the high points costs just makes booking with points or points and cash combo, very expensive.

i looked into AAA last spring and was quoted the same price as the one that i called direct to DCL, and that is why i didn't think that you get a good discount from AAA. i emailed AAA with my dates last night and i'll see what kind of price i will get, and i know about the credit on board and the refill mugs, thanks.

im thinking maybe its just the time of year that i chose, maybe dcl doesnt give out to many discounts. i will also check out Sams club, thanks for the heads up on that one! i know cosco is another one, but i dont belong to that one.

We partly chose March because it was our Spring break and it was cheaper than June which was our other alternative. DVC usually keeps about 18 months or so out for reservations so once you're inside a year out, the price seems to slowly escalate from what I've seen. I'm still hoping for FL discount rates for then so we will see. The AAA price was the same as All seasons and DU as well so you may want to try them. Icruise.com was also the same price. DU also gave a rebate or credit of $75. Basically you need to get to a company that's a preferred vendor, the prices should all be the same at that point, the difference will be the rebates and credits I think. All were cheaper than the price quoted to me by the DCL website by several hundred dollars.

Here's actually what happened to us. We went to a Cruise show at AAA. The DCL rep there quoted us a price and then when the AAA rep went to book it on the following Monday, the price was different. Some things were less and some more so the total was only slightly higher. Then they couldn't answer even the simplest of questions and it took forever for them to get back to me. I was getting disgusted with them and ended up checking around. Sam's was cheaper and several others were the same price as "the special cruise show price". I booked Sam's since it was the cheapest then went back to AAA to discuss why their's was cheaper than AAA as well as my other concerns. I didn't get the answers I wanted and they didn't match the Sam's price. So I then had two reservations and decided to keep both until closer to the sailing. I will cancel one as the deadline nears.

I will make my decision based on any cabin upgrades that might happen before hand and whether FL resident pricing comes into play. Sam's, AAA and the DCL rep are all aware of my plans and say they understand. I have not been happy with AAA in this matter for a number of reasons I haven't gone into here and have had extensive discussions with the person in charge there. She thinks many of my concerns are valid and vows to do better. She says AAA no longer matches the price, which is fine, I never asked them to do so. All I ever did was ask for an explanation of why Sam's was cheaper than AAA and I've yet to receive one. With the $75 credit and free sodas they're both pretty close overally anyway.

I was wondering how Sam's was to deal with. Is this the first time you've used them? THey seemed very helpful when I called for a quote, although I would have expected them to. Just wondering how they'll be down the road. Does the travel agent deal with cabin upgrades or is that something you do when checking in? Also, (I guess I had more questions than I thought), sorry that this is getting off the subject but, when you check in how important is it to get there early and what time do you typically have to be there anyway? Just wondering for flight schedules. THanks!!

Where do you all get these deals??? I have been looking to book a DCL cruise for my family of 4 and we would like a veranda. So I'm thinking a cat 6 and the 7 day cruise has been over $7000.00 without air. :earseek: Can't seem to find anything cheaper.

When are you looking to go? The problem is in part the type of room your looking at. DCL discounts the lower cabins much more than the higher ones. You should book as early in advance as possible, at least a year out. Try Sam's and Costco, they usually are the cheapest it appears.

Sorry, looking for mid July. Would like to go in 04 but if I have to pay over 7,000 for it, then 05 might be the better time. Can you book 05 yet?

Regarding Sam's Club and the DCL, I looked at their Web site and they do not list DCL as one of their cruises. Is it just not listed, but if you call up they give you a quote on it?
