DC Metro Area Restaurant Suggestions

I had heard they had moved to a fancier place. I used to love their original location behind the parking garage. That is where DH took me on our first date. It was "our place" until we moved to NC in 1997.

Thats so funny that so many of us love that place...I never really knew so many people knew about it! I started going there in the early 80s (approximately) and it was a hidden secret. Then I went there a couple of years later and the wait was out the door....I guess all good things must come to an end - I loved their cozy location in the other place too, but now that we have talked about it here I'm inspired to take a drive to Frederick this weekend and go check out their new digs. Maybe even call our friend who used to take me there - he and his wife just had a new baby and could probably use a night out!

Oh, and totally sorry for hijacking Tim. :p I'm not a steak person, otherwise I'd be giving my two cents right and left. Go with your gut and your date will be perfect. :)

Hope I wasn't annoying with my indecisiveness but I'm going with Ruth's chris. I took your advice and just went with my gut. ;) And don't worry, you didn't hijack! Thanks again everyone, really appreciated.

Sorry about the hijack too. :) JunieJay, My Dh is a Frederick native but we rarely go back to visit. (Family drama :rotfl: ). I moved to Frederick right after college and the bars of downtown Frederick was my old stomping grounds in the late 80s. We are planning a visit to MD for 12/26-12/31 and we are looking forward to a meal at La Paz, we will also visit the inlaws.;)

I SO want a great steak...and right NOW. Man, if only these places knew what kind of great publicity they are getting on (of all places) a Disney fan site. I'm gonna make a list of everybody's favorites (Frederick might be a tad far for DH to want to go to for a steak dinner, though...)

agnes!

My mouth has been watering ever since I've been reading this thread. I'm a little dorky and have been keeping a list of DC restaurants in Excel since I've moved here and I'm happy to add great steak places - you can never go wrong with a great steak!

I feel like we should get a free meal at these places for promoting them. :rotfl:

Its actually the Mexican food in Frederick. We veered slightly off topic. :rotfl:

Still, this thread is a concise list of good D.C. restaurants, lets keep it going!

If you like cream of crab soup, get it there! They bring the dish out with the LUMPS of crabmeat in the dish.....then the pour the "cream of" overtop of it right in front of you....oh, divine!

OMG!!! I'm so getting it, I LOVE Cream of Crab soup, but it can be SO hit or miss...I'm so glad you told me :) Crab is my FAVORITE seafood, mmmmmmmmm.

Again, sorry for the hijack NewJersey :) I keep a list of Restaurants too. :thumbsup2 And I agree that we should keep this list going. So far we've mostly gone to restaurants in our neighborhood and in Annapolis. I don't think I've eaten at any good places in DC yet. :rolleyes1 We are usually doing the tourist junk with family that visits or just eat at the cafeterias in the Smithsonians. :confused3 Hard Rock has been twice, I'm not too impressed.

We did eat at some Italian place in Georgetown that was just heavenly. :cloud9: I don't remember what it was called though. And of course we ate at the Benihanas there, we LOVE Hibachi.

Anyone tried Citronelle??? It was No. 1 on Washingtonian's List...

If anyone comes up to Frederick, let me know, I'd love to join you if possible!

The only cream of crab soup I've ever had that was better than Legal Seafood was at Dutch's Daughter in Frederick! (that's not to say that there aren't others, I just haven't had them :teeth:)

:rotfl: I seriously think you might be The One.

We should totally plan something!! I'm totally up for it because I'd love to explore more of the area.

:rotfl2: Just one small problem!

I changed the name of the thread, so no one feels bad about 'hijacking' even though no one was!

I really liked DC Coast, off K street in NW DC (was that the name of it) - Christine actually recommended it to me. And Laureal Plaza near Dupont has really great Margheritas and I enjoyed the fajitas I had there.

Our special occasion place is Colvin Run Tavern

http://www.colvinrun.com/

I like Capital Grille over the other steak places but Mortons is a close second. I also like McCormick and Schmidt over Legal Seafood.

Maggianos is always great for a big group

My fav DC restaurant is Coco Loco -- 810 7th St. NW -- Brazilian food. They come around with skewer after skewer of every kind of meat -- and they have a buffet of Brazilian side dishes. Great desserts, great wine, too. After dinner they have dancing.

Ahh, o.k. I loved how quaint the restaurant was. I hate to think of them as fancy schmancy! I remember the wait to get in that place was long though, I guess they probably had to open up a bigger place.

Half the charm was how cozy the place was. I miss them, but Tampa is chock a block with good mexican food. If it wasn't, I'd have to move. :rotfl:

Kimya, for all the years I either lived or worked in Frederick, I only ate at Dutch's twice at the old place and twice at the new. I make my own crab cakes, so I never had theirs!

I'm gonna have to put the Dutch Daughter on my list. :thumbsup2 DH family lives in PA, so we go through Frederick every time we visit and use it as a halfway point when we don't feel like going the whole way up :)

Sweet Title Change :) Does Annapolis count?? I LOVE the Treaty of Paris, it has GREAT food, real small and cozy, fireplace the whole deal, plus it has historical significance.

We just got a McCormick & Schmick's at the Annapolis Mall, we plan to try it out Monday after we take our family portraits at Sears :)

****Keeping the thread going to include all restaurant suggestions since there are a lot of great places to eat in the area!****

Can anyone recommend a good steakhouse in Northern VA (or DC as a second request)? I was thinking of Flemington's in Tysons Corner but I'm trying to get something that is local instead of a chain.

I thought I passed one the other night in McLean when I was driving towards the GW Parkway to get into DC but it was dark out and I couldn't make out the sign.

Thanks!

ETA: Trying to stay within Fairfax/Loudon/Arlington counties in VA.

The one you passed in McLean is J Gilbert's. It is excellent.
