My family and I have decided to spend a day at Daytona Beach but we dont really have any info on it. Can any of you who have already went give us some tips. It would be really appreciated.

I am going next May - staying at Ormond Beach - so maybe by June I can help....

a week at Disney followed by a week at a beach - I think I will be in heaven......

What kind of info are you looking for?

You can head to visitdaytona.com or daytonabeach.com for some general info.

And when are you visiting? Some of the city's bigger hotels are closed for renovations right now (hurricane related damage). But everything else is up and running.

Im so sorry it took me so long to reply. I didnt get any notices of any replys. oops. Anyway, we are going to be in the area in May from the 13-21. I think I will check out the websites but I would love to hear from someone who has actually took their kids there and if they liked it. Thanks guys.

We have a 4 yr old and we like Daytona. The in-laws live in St. Augustine, so we've done lots of day trips there doing different things.

You could spend a day swimming and playing in the sand, and once we even got a cheap hotel room just for the day so that we could use the pool, have somewhere to change, shower and park. The Ocean Deck is a great restaurant just south of the pier that you can walk up to from the beach. (Don't forget to bring a cheap kite, and I've never seen nice shells there, so I don't know how much shell collecting you can do.)

You could take a trolley boat or a manatee or dolphin cruise which we haven't done yet, plan to during our next trip in January so I can let you know about that.

You could just walk around on the boardwalk, have lunch, play in the cheesey arcades, ride go-karts and have lunch at Bubba Gumps or shop and eat at one of the Ocean Walk Village restaurants. There is a whole strand of beach shops and restaurants across the street from beach. They also have parasailing on the beach and those bungie type rides on the boardwalk.

If you sign up for the free travel guide on daytonabeach.com you'll also receive a little coupon book good for some free appetizers at restaurants, a couple of bucks off alot of the attractions, etc.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any questions.

Here's a thread with some restaurant recommendations

In terms of the beach... pay the $5 to drive on the beach, park your car and enjoy!!! Take the Dunlawton entrance if you want to be where its less crowded, and be sure to hit Crabby Joe's for lunch.... best conch fritters, and you can't beat the atmosphere- Crabby Joe's is on the pier and hangs out over the water.

If any of you are at ALL interested in racing, or even just into cars (like most boys, and even lots of girls, are), visit Daytona USA, which is part of the Speedway. It only takes a few hours, and is a great afternoon cool-off thing after visiting the beach. They have a terrific IMAX movie that is out of this world, and lots of neat interactive stuff for the kids. Check out their website for more info.

For dinner, skip all the chain restauarants, and hit Inlet Harbor in Ponce Inlet. (Just a few miles south of Daytona.) Eat outside on the deck- live music every day and night, and the dolphins often swim right up to the deck! If you have time, visit the Ponce Inlet Lighthouse & Marine Science Center.

E-mail me if you have ???'s... I live there.

If you're staying over night, the best place to stay IMHO is the Adam's Mark Hotel. There's restaurants, shopping, etc. withing the complex, and it has a great location. We stayed in our RV at Ormond Beach last July, and the biggest complaint I had was the lack of a good seafood buffet. There was a 24 hr. Krispy Kreme on the main road in that had "hot doughnuts" all the time. YUM! Have a great trip! :)

Another recommendation if you are staying overnight is the oceanwalk resort next to the adam's mark hotel. Has 2 indoor pools, 2 outdoor pools, kiddie water play park that is fenced in from the other pools, 3 outdoor jacuzzis, lazy river, free indoor miniature golf, kids activities, and activities for the whole family. We stayed here for a week in august and i will never stay anywhere else, by far the best resort thus far on the beach.

Well we're staying in Kissimmee and we have one day free from the parks and we were going to spend it at the beach and I was just trying to find out what was there because we've never been. I ordered the free Daytona info and just got it in the mail Friday. It really seems like a nice place to visit. I think we'll give it a try. Im looking forward to it.
