I am looking for a nice clean hotel on the beach in Daytona for Spring Break. I am traveling with dh, ds5, dd10. Also what types of activities are available?

We usually stay in a condo in Daytona Beach Shores. I'd check the reviews of hotels on Trip Advisor and go from there.

We climbed the Ponce Inlet Lighthouse on the last trip. That was loads of fun.

We do lots of mini-golf too. Plus hours on the beach.

We aren't into racing so we haven't done the Speedway tour.

Next year we will likely do the NASA tours at Cape Canaveral.

Good luck! (Oh, and the Winn-Dixie on S. Atlantic is gross and smells bad. The Publix just up the road is clean and the staff is friendly.)

We always stay at the Sun Viking Lodge. Its right on the beach, has an indoor and outdoor pool with a big water slide. They are very family friendly and just overall very nice. We have always gotten a suite like room. It has two queen beds, bathroom, then a kitchen/living room area that over looks the ocean with a balcony. Its nice to have the full size fridge and a lot of times, we would come up for lunch, throw a frozen pizza in, and be good.

We enjoy the lighthouse, boardwalk, and the mini golf. Bubba Gump is by the boardwalk and is amazing! Those vacations are the "relax" time so we do not do much but swim and relax.

One thing I should mention to you - I don't know when your Spring Break is, but "Bike Week" this year takes place March 7-16, 2014.

If motorcycles and "Celebrate with us and nearly 500,000 of your fellow bikers as you make the annual pilgrimage" doesn't scare you off (LOL), you might check out the "new" Hyatt Place Daytona in the Shores. It's actually a redo of a former hotel, but they took it completely down to the studs and rebuilt the entire place, so it might as well be new LOL.

It has good ratings on TripAdvisor too :beach:

Have fun!

I have stayed 2 or 3 times at the ocean walk wyndum. it is 99$ a night for a 1 bedroom ocean view with a 2 night min (at least it was every time I have gone/called on it.) One time I had booked through expedia.ca (Canadian) to get no min night stay, not sure why but no min nights needed.

I was very happy the lazy river and splash park are nice. (Similar to AK Splash area).

Depending on the week you are going, my recommendations will vary. If you are travelling anytime in March, Daytona will be crowded with college students, Bike Week participants, and College BeachFest (formerly Black College Reunion) participants. During those times, the most family-friendly parts of Daytona are to the South end. These weeks, the streets are bumper-to-bumper, and so is the beach. I would recommend Perry's Ocean Edge, which is very family friendly.

If you are going in April, the crowds will be smaller and the vacationers more families than college-aged people. Then, you may want to be closer to the BoardWalk, at a place like the Wyndham Ocean Walk.

Having grown up in the summers in Daytona, it has changed a lot. When its not as crowded, it is more like it used to be. The crowds are hard on a family with small children.

Thank you everyone I will be going in April. I wasn't sure if the south end was best or the north end by the boardwalk.

I found Studio 1 on Trip Adviser. It is clean and reasonable. It is across the street but there is an empty lot in front of it so you have ocean views on the second floor.
We took the city bus to Ponce de Leon lighthouse http://ponceinlet.org/ and went to the Daytona Speedway.

We really enjoyed the Ponce Lighthouse. It has a great musuem with a lot to look at in addition to climbing the lighthouse. There is a marine center in Ponce Inlet, as well. It is small and won't take more than a few hours, but enjoyable way for the kids to spend a few hours. They had a few turtle and bird rescues, crafts for the kids and other education exhibits. My kids enjoy the Boardwalk at night - rides, arcades and stopped for ice-cream.

We stayed at Perry's for years. There are a couple of things that set it apart on Daytona Beach. They have an indoor pool surrounded by plants and huge trees that are beautifully lit up at night. The pool use to be heated in the mid 80's. The last couple times we went it felt cooler to me. My daughter loved it and always referred to it as "the green pool"; not because it was dirty, but the pool with the lights on just doesn't really glow blue.
They have some rooms that overlook the indoor pool to the inside and the Atlantic Ocean to the outside.
One last thought on rooms, they have about 5 little cottages on the edge of their property if that's more appealing than a hotel room.
I just remembered the swing sets that my daughter loved.
I also loved waking up to the smell of donuts. They make home-made donuts every morning, about 5 different flavors, served with OJ and coffee. Complimentary.
All that being said, we haven't been in years, so please don't presume all these extra perks are still there without confirming. :)

I stayed at Perry's with my 17 yr old DS last April. We were there to check out Embry Riddle and decided to stay on the beach. The donuts are still there and very delicious!!!! We both would stay there again.

We usually do Panama City Beach, but last year went to Daytona Beach. We stayed at the Wyndham Oceanwalk.... It was perfect!! Close to everything, we only got our car out a few times. Good for small kids and teens and families. We went over spring break and surprisingly there were not many of your "typical" spring breakers. 95% families. Even our teenage boys stayed around, since there was so much to do and so big. You will not be disappointed.
