We are flying out of Dayton. I was just checking out the airport parking so I could budget accordingly.

They have a $7 long term lot and a $4 long term lot. Other than $3 per day, does anyone know what the difference is between these two lots?

I haven't been to the Cox International for a good many years, but I did grow up nearby. :D My educated guess would be the distance of one from the terminal. Also, one may be completely enclosed by a perimeter barrier, while the other might be a bit less secure.

In Toledo, near where we live now, the parking is all one rate and completely open although patrolled. In Detroit, where we fly from periodically, the farther the distance from the terminal the cheaper the rates. The nearer the terminals, the more secure the lot and more expensive the rate. For example, the green lot (open but patrolled) may cost $10 per day while the parking garage (traffic controlled with gated entry) with walkway access to the terminal will be $17 per day. (Prices are simply examples, not actual--although probably pretty close!) ;)

I would bet that's why Dayton International charges differing rates. If they've got parking lot transportation to terminal--who cares if the area is gate controlled and covered--my vehicles will survive a week or so outdoors. Also, if someone wants to break-in to a vehicle they will find a way regardless of where it is parked.

We live 20 miles from there, the only difference, if it is onsite, is the distance. Dayton is a small airport compared to Cinn, or Columbus. Any parking spot is walkable, a long one but doable. All of Dayton parking is open air, there is no garage. Also there are offsite shuttle services that are a little cheaper. If possible have the drive drop off everyone and luggage then park. Hope this helps

Here's a tip...go to www.airportparkinglots.com

This is for offsite parking right across from the Dayton airport, by making a reservation, you save your self time and money. The coupon even gives you a discount! The shuttle takes you right to the door so you have litterally no walk!! Its great. I used to park myself and walk but since the parking has been moved out further from the building since 9/11, it can be quite a hike. Its also great returning because usually everyone is tired and this takes you right back to your vehicle.

I hope this helps save you time and energy and hey... have a great trip!!
