Sherri. Gone. Clarkson. Gone. Who’s next to be thanos’d? We don’t know. And the replacement for all their shows? News, news, and even more news. Fox owned stations have even made their own locally produced shows (which is actually a good thing). But for smaller markets that may not have resources as big city stations, these syndicated shows have helped fill programming gaps between news and network shows. In short-what’s your reaction?

Well it isn't just daytime TV. Traditional TV is dying. Viewership is collapsing. Everything is moving towards streaming and podcasts on YouTube. Many Cable TV channels will cease to exist in the next few years.

Disney was showing massive losses on their legacy TV channels. Streaming is keeping them afloat.

This. Some site was asking about late night hosts and it seemed everyone agreed - this crop is the end. It's wild.

'talk shows' have changed ALLOT over the course of my life. the early (ran after the morning news but before the soaps) daytime ones my mom watched when I was a kid were truly 'talk'-host chatting with whatever guest(s) about utter fluff. the afternoon ones tended to also include a random performance (Mike Douglas, Merv Griffin, Dinah Shore...). when Phil Donahue came on the scene it got topical and interesting but over the years tv 'talk shows' ended up devolving into trash tv (the ABC series that just ran on the subject covered it well) so I lost any interest. honestly the ones I enjoyed most were the late night ones with Dick Cavet and Tom Snyder-they had some cutting edge guests/performers/topics that no one in the daylight hours would touch.

And the replacement for all their shows? News, news, and even more news.

not where we live-i was curious so I just looked at the M-F lineups:

(all after our local news ends)-

7am-11am network stuff (GMA/TODAY/CBS Good Morning/Live/The View)
11am-12pm soaps/Drew
12-4 either gameshows or soaps, w/Kelly Clarkson on two separate channels
3-5 court shows, local news (no idea why they start it here at 4 but they all do)

FOX-local news 7-9, access Hollywood 9-10, Tameron Hall 10-11, Sherri Sheppard 11-12, game shows 12-3, comedy show reruns 3-7, game show reruns 7-8.

LOL. I had to look Sherri up. Never heard of that show. It runs at 3 AM here on the Fox affiliate, so that is probably why I have never heard of it. News is a popular choice for two reasons. It costs less to produce a newscast and 100% of the commercial revenue goes to the local station. Before I retired 4 1/2 years ago our sales people were having a hard time selling our local advertisers on buying ads on our website or streaming, they wanted just on the over the air channel. They tried it, but when your are an HVAC company that does business in Northern California, and you are having to wade through customer requests from Florida and Kansas, it just isn't worth is.

Wife fixed Wi-Fi...fall of 1980 David letterman was fantastic in the morning... I had a swing shift work so was able to watch and the question was....who is watching this....yep saw the stage catch on fire 🔥 🔥 🔥

Kelly Clarkson wasn’t cancelled. She put out a statement saying she was stepping back to be with her kids.
Yes. She has made enough money to never have to work again and her personal life has been marked by a number of horrible events. Moving the show from California to New York did not solve the family issues.

Pre 1974 coming off the school bus on a rainy Oregon day Mike Douglas was on the TV...moms maybeley comedian.... after morning letterman never watched again... wait dr Phil occasionally.... now... nothing... living the dream in Yuma and cringing when all the dissers want to retire to Florida and catch 🦎 🦎 🦎 🦎 🦎 🦎 🦎

This. How people watch programs is changing.

Our young adult kids watch YouTube or other sources

They pay for limited streaming services.

Dh and I have several streaming apps because he watches a variety of sports.

If it were just me, I may not have any paid sources, either.

The actual real reason why daytime talk shows are dying is they are slowly being replaced by game shows and news shows but daytime game shows are making a comeback. Because in syndication cheap game shows especially daytime game shows rarely get cancelled because they are cheaper to create and produce. But during the 80's 90's and 2000's talk shows spread like wildfire in daytime TV and you had stars like Regis Philbin Kathie Lee Gifford Jenny Jones Ricki Lake and Oprah Winfrey that had success as talk show hosts. But the fascination with game shows has caused the talk show genre to wane. Because there is game shows such as Steve Harvey's Family Feud and shows like The Perfect Line and 25 Words Or Less with Meredith Vieira that seem to get huge ratings rather than talk shows. But also the celebrity factor caused the death of daytime TV with celebrities such as Harry Connick Jr. Kelly Clarkson and Bonnie Hunt launching talk shows of their own because it seems that singers have better chances at superstardom by having their own talk show and we slowly saw the death of daytime talk shows coming near as this new type of talk show was launched

Exactly. I’ve had YouTubeTV since Day 1 and it was a great option, but now other than a handful of channels it isn’t even worth it to me -local news… YouTube; sports…Disney; etc. In fact, Google/YouTube is the best positioned option out there since most content is already available free(and ad-free with Premium!) in some form or another. Then add in (political) talking heads like Rogan and Meidas(and thousands of others) on YouTube and you’re talking programs that gain millions of views with nearly zero overhead!

The death of tv makes me so sad. As a Gen X my FAVORITE thing was getting the Fall TV Guide Preview Guide and reading it cover to cover to see what new shows were starting. I still miss it to this day and streaming stinks. I miss when you could turn on the tv and record all the good shows...now you have to subscribe to this and subscribe to that and honestly, I don't even know what is on half the time so I sit and look at the first page then give up and go back to watching Friends or Modern Family on Nickelodeon, or House Hunters on HGTV.

I finally just cancelled Disney+/Hulu/HBO because I think the price went up to $34.99/month which is crazy! I still have Netflix and Peacock and barely watch those (although I started 11-22-63 on Netflix and it's really good, but I digress!).

I just miss regular tv so much 😢
