Days off from the parks?

We still always go to the parks. I thought by now we might not be doing that, but we haven't even thought about going to the other Orlando attractions! Actually, we did think about doing Sea World last time, but changed our minds when we got to OKW! Now, just because we do the parks every day, doesn't mean we stay in them all day! We often start the day and end it at a park, but the middle part of the day is often spent at the resort or DTD.

I wonder if DVC has a database on which members have AP's.

If they offered a reduced rate AP, yes they would make money from some, but they may loose alot of revenue from current AP/PAP holders (such as my wife and I).

If they do have this info, I would think they have aleady figured the benefits/deficits of free or reduced rate AP's.

I think you may be onto something there Maistre Gracey.. Until Disney realizes (or knows through a database) that a large portion of the DVC members visiting WDW are NOT going to the parks like they used, I doubt that we will see any kind of discount. They assume that they have a captive audience and most of the DVC members have probably joined in the last 4 years or so, and are still going gung ho to the parks.. We may see some discounts in a few years and maybe, again, not. I do remember that when we bought in and were given the free passes until 1999 that they said after the free passes went away they would replace them with a discount pass or something like that.. Of course, it wasn't written in ink, so I never planned on it. It would be nice though.. :p

On our last visit in May, we added 3 days to our trip at the end after extended family went home . (We needed a vacation from the vacation, LOL).

Of the 3 days, DDH and I only went into the park 1 day - another day we drove down to watch the shuttle launch, and on the 3rd day we went to an outside mall after checkout.

DS and his buddy (both 19) didn't go into the parks at all! Believe it or not, they hung out at the pool, went to DD and on that 3rd day went to the mall with us.

Since Disney has very little trouble filling the restaurants in Epcot - and since DVC members here who don't go to the parks report eating in other Disney restaurants (Olivias, Spoodles, Downtown Disney), they probably aren't seeing a lot of lost income - just moved income. We may not go into the parks to shop, but we sure seem to shop in Downtown Disney - probably more than the non-DVC Disney-goer. We play golf on Disney courses and spend time at Disney waterparks, and rent watermice, and spend time next to the Disney pool giving our kids money for the snack bar.

I think Disney has got to get the sense that DVCers are using their resorts as a hotel - and then going off site to eat, shop, play and spend - at Kennedy Space Center, Universal, SeaWorld, the outlet malls. From the discussions on this board, I don't think that is the case to the extent that Disney is losing money by not giving us bigger park discounts.
