Has anyone heard any more about changing the dates on this? It's been talked about before...and after Katrina it seemed to have more backing.... that is extending Daylight Saving Time by I think 6 weeks??? We'd gain an extra hour of daylight into Nov and start up earlier in the spring. The thought being it would help reduce the # of gals of oil we'd be needing. Just wondering.... :confused3

I have not heard any more about this, but I had in the past. Oh more :sunny: days!

I remember hearing about this not too long ago and I was wondering when it was going to begin.

I tried searching on the web for info'n but so far haven't found anything...so I'm turning to the DIS boards for help! :goodvibes

I believe it will not go into effect until 2007 if it passes.I am not sure if it did already but I thought I heard a modified version was passed

I was wondering about this too! I'm not thrilled about the idea of my small children arriving at school in the dark on late fall mornings. I hope it will not come to pass, unless it truly would somehow save a lot of energy. I'm not sure how it would, though.

You know, we don't REALLY gain any daylight hours. There are the same number of hours that are light/dark as there were before they are just at different "times" of the day. :rotfl2:

Yeah, I've never understood the point of DST. I wish they would do away with the whole thing.

I heard it is next year, 2006. When the states does it Ontario is going to follow . :cool1:

This was the last article on it that I could find. IDK the date of the article.

President signs energy bill

KTTC-TV
USA - After four years of debate President Bush signs a massive energy bill. The legislation means many changes for the energy industry, and one of those changes could mean some extra dollars for Hybrid owners. Now people recieve a 2-thousand dollar tax deduction when they buy a gas-electric hybrid vehicle.

But starting January 1st, Hybrid buyers will recieve a tax credit, which will vary in amount depending on the model they buy.

If your interested in getting the credit you may have to purchase hybrid sooner rather than later.

A provision in the in the bill gives tax breaks for the first 60-thousand vehicles sold by each car company.

Here's a rundown of some other major parts of the energy bill.

The measure will provide tax breaks and loan guarantees for new nuclear power plants, clean coal technology and wind energy.

Utility companies will be required to comply with federal standards for their grids, rather than their own self-regulation.

And beginning in 2007, daylight savings time will be extended by one month in an effort to save energy.

President Bush acknowledged the bill's over all impact isn't expected to be felt for a few years.

And those who voted for it also admit it's not expected to have much impact on oil prices.

Thank you very much!!

Exactly! And for people who are up very early (before 5:00), it actually makes it worse...or at least it does IMO. ;)

Daylight Saving Time Extended

On Monday August 8, 2005 President Bush signed into law a broad energy bill that will extend Daylight Saving Time by four weeks in 2007. The provisions of the bill call for Daylight Saving Time to begin three weeks earlier on the second Sunday in March and end one week later on the first Sunday in November. Currently Daylight Saving Time starts on the first Sunday in April and ends on the last Sunday in October.

In 2007 when the provisions take effect Daylight Saving Time will begin on March 11 and end on November 4, 2007.

While polls indicate most people favor extending Daylight Saving Time there are opponents who fought against the extension. The airline industry has said it will cost millions of dollars to change schedules and some school systems have concerns that students will be waiting for the bus in darkness in the mornings. It is expected that school systems will issue advisories to both parents and students on how to handle these situations.

There have been many proponents extending Daylight Saving Time, including operators of golf courses, theme parks and businesses providing outdoor activities.
