President signs energy bill
KTTC-TV
USA - After four years of debate President Bush signs a massive energy bill. The legislation means many changes for the energy industry, and one of those changes could mean some extra dollars for Hybrid owners. Now people recieve a 2-thousand dollar tax deduction when they buy a gas-electric hybrid vehicle.
But starting January 1st, Hybrid buyers will recieve a tax credit, which will vary in amount depending on the model they buy.
If your interested in getting the credit you may have to purchase hybrid sooner rather than later.
A provision in the in the bill gives tax breaks for the first 60-thousand vehicles sold by each car company.
Here's a rundown of some other major parts of the energy bill.
The measure will provide tax breaks and loan guarantees for new nuclear power plants, clean coal technology and wind energy.
Utility companies will be required to comply with federal standards for their grids, rather than their own self-regulation.
And beginning in 2007, daylight savings time will be extended by one month in an effort to save energy.
President Bush acknowledged the bill's over all impact isn't expected to be felt for a few years.
And those who voted for it also admit it's not expected to have much impact on oil prices.
