Day Three at the Lodge
New Jersey's Fab Four's First Trip to the World!
Participants: Myself (age 32)
DH (age 36)
DisTwins (age 5)
Week of Aug. 24th to 31st
Tuesday evening we head over to Ft. Wilderness for the nightly campfire program. We leave the boat dock at 6:40 and are at the campfire by 7:30 in plenty of time before it starts at 8:00. Got first row seats.
For those interested:
Take the boat w/ the blue flag to Ft. Wild. and walk straight up the path toward the Pioneer Hall and outdoor merchants. Continue straight past the petting farm to the bus depot. Take the Orange Outpost bus to the 900 campsites section. Walk across the street and into the Meadow Trading Post. Walk out of the Trading Post on the other side and go over the bridge to your right. You'll see the campfire circle/movie screen ahead on your left.
The CM already had the fire going and we purchased a "S'mores Kit" with 2 sticks, big bag of marshmallows, package of graham crackers and 2 chocolate bars for $5. Great deal! The kids enjoyed their first marshmallow roast, though weren't crazy about the marshmallows!
The CM began a sing along and to my surprise, the kids joined in! They were elated when Chip and Dale appeared! After some "antics" for the crowd, Chip came right over and posed for pics and signed books. Our only complaint was that, in spite of a very small crowd (none of the back bleachers were even filled), Dale started at the back end, did the back 2 rows, and after just 10 minutes, both characters left without even a goodbye! DD was SOOO disappointed she didn't get to see Dale! (But we caught up with them in MK!) Overall, a very pleasant evening and a lot of fun! We didn't stay for the movie, BTW, as it started at 8:40 and last boat back to WL was at 9:30!
Spoke with a nice family on the dock who explained that they had to leave the campground cabins that day and move over to the Lodge, as the cabin furniture was damp and damaged! They were excited to come over and join us at the Lodge!
Found friendly folks like this to be a wonderful aspect of our Disney experience. Everywhere we went, we spoke to people from all over and shared experiences. Many CM's also took an interest in hearing where we were from and what our plans were! Just a genuine sincerity from people - a very pleasant surprise!
When we returned to the WL, the Electric Water Pagaent was about to begin. We'd watched it the night before on the beach, so this night we enjoyed a bird's eye view from the observation deck on the 5th floor. Great view (though the end of the parade was cut off by the trees.)
Hope to get to Day 4 - MAGIC KINGDOM - tomorrow!
