Monday, September 16/2002 - our honeymoon

Okay by the second week the wakeup calls from Mickey are getting old. I admit to picking up the phone when it rings and slamming it down without listening to that hyperactive voice on the other end! This morning Mickey phones us at 7:30 but we don't get up until 8:30. After a quick breakfast in the hotel room and a filled mug of coffee from the food court in hand we head out to our rented Deewu.
Animal Kingdom was our destination today! Boy it was a hot and humid one! Perhaps all that talk about it feeling hotter in AK is right! We arrived at the park at 9:30.
After gazing at the Tree of Life we headed to the Kilimanjaro Sarafis. We fast passed and headed to explore the Pangani Forest Trail. This was the first time we had to use Fast Pass on our trip. The first week was so quiet that most rides were walk ons.
After finishing up at the Pangani Forest we still had time until our Fast Pass was ready so we headed over to Asia and did the Kali River Rapids. I was prepared to Fast Pass that for after our safari ride but it was only a 5 minute ride! We loved the rapid ride! We didn't get all that wet and it was so hot that it felt great!!
After getting off the Rapids we headed back to the Safaris. It was worth the wait. We saw lots of animals! I don't know why they bother with the poaching storyline - it was really pathetic!
After getting off we headed back to the Tree of Life to see It's Tough to be a Bug. Another winner! Cool show!
While we were waiting between shows we wandered thru the Discovery Island Trails and back to see the Oasis at a slower pace and to get some ice cream. I tried the chocolate caramel concotion (forget the name). Okay that alone made my trip!! Glen had a chocolate banana.
After that - Pocohontas! Wow that girl can sing! Great show as well! From here it was across to Dinoland. I think we did Cretaceous Trail (it's not well marked!) and walked onto Dinosaur! We both loved this ride! It's one of the best things at AK to be sure! By now we were hungry so we found a seat in the shade to munch on our smuggled in bagels and crackers and cheese. We looked at the Primeval Whirl but I was uncertain asI hadn't taken any motion sickness pills today. Twirling around is one thing my stomach can not take. We chose to leave it for this trip. I didn't want to take those motion sickness pills everyday if I could help it as they made me so drowsy. We checked out some of the stores until it was time for Tarzan. For any women out there who haven't seen Tarzan yet - it's a must! Whoa that fellow can rock!
On the way back to to Africa to head out to Rafiki's Planet Watch we stopped at the Maharajah Jungle Trek and did Kali Rapids a second time to cool off. THis time there was about a 10 minute wait for the rapids. I think we were so hot and tired that we didn't do justice to the conservation station. We did look at some of the video kiosks and exhibits.
Once back from the train station we figured it was time to snap a seat for the parade. We choose a spot next to the entrance to Camp Minnie-Mickey so that we could dash in and do the last Lion King show. The parade was excellent! (Better than Epcot's Tapestry of Dreams but not quite as good as the Dreams parade at Magic Kingdom). Once it was over we scurried to grab a seat for the last show of LIon King.
This is one of Glen's favourite movies and the show sure didn't disappoint. It was absoulutely awesome! The show ended about 5:15 making it easy to leave the park as it had actually closed at 5. We were starving, hot but very satisfied!
I wasn't sure what to expect from Animal Kingdom as I'm not a huge zoo person. However the shows were so incredible (we did miss Flights of Wonder) and the rides awesome. We were so hot that I'm not sure that we did spent enough time exploring some areas but that just leaves more new things to experience next trip!!
We drove back to the hotel (All-Star Music) and went for a swim. And let me tell you that swim felt awesome!!!
Since we had been at the ASMU for a week and had yet to buy a meal at the food court we thought we should check it out. I ordered the rotisserie chicken dinner and I can't remember what Glen had but is was a good meal ($18).
After eating we headed off site to see the Titanic Mueum. I had a 2 for 1 coupon from the Entertainment Book that we used. It was worth the time I think. We both enjoyed it although I'm glad that we didn't pay full price! They do have some great artifacts and stuff from the movie. When we left it was pouring rain so we decided to have an early night and head back to the hotel.
