Day Seven (9-24)
Mickey and Stitch woke us up for the last time this morning. We didnt really have a lot of time to be sad since we both had to shower, get the car loaded up with all of our stuff and then hit a park before finishing up at Downtown Disney. I gave DD the option of going to any park she wanted, fully expecting to hear that she wanted to revisit the Animal Kingdom. Wrong! I want to go ride Tower of Terror again, Daddy My little princess had turned into Jr. Thrillseeker! I made sure she didnt want to visit AK, and she was pretty set on going back to MGM. So we put together a plan of MGM for 1-2 hours, back to POP to catch the DTD bus, DTD until 12 or 12:30, then back to POP to eat lunch before departing by 2pm. That would get us home by 9pm that night.
I showered and then packed up the bags while she showered. I hate packing bags. I dont hate the actual task of doing it, I just hate the fact that it signifies the conclusion of the vacation. Its funny how one simple task of packing a bag/suitcase can bring such opposite emotions. One week ago, I packed the same bag with the same clothes and was soo excited, I could barely contain myself. Today, I reluctantly zipped up that bag and made my way down to the car to load up. After a couple of trips to the car, we took a minute to sit down on the bed and say our goodbyes to our room. We knew that once we walked out that door, that it would probably be at least a year before we returned. We did a final check and then exited room #9425 for the last time.
A bus was waiting for us (gotta love the transportation system!) so we boarded and quickly made our way over to MGM. We rode Tower of Terror two times in a row with no lines. We got a different ride each time since they have programmed random drops now. It was awesome each time and is now one of my favorites at WDW.
We followed that up with two consecutive no-wait rides on Rock N Rollercoaster. We could not get enough of that one on this trip! We rode in the very back car, where the ride seemed a little faster and a little bumpier. I think I like sitting up front the best. There is nothing like wind in your face and an unobstructed view of the road before you.
We then left MGM and took the bus back to POP, since there are no direct buses to DTD from the parks. We boarded the DTD bus and realized that it would make a stop at Typhoon Lagoon before reaching DTD. Looking back, we should have just taken the car as it would probably have saved us 30-40 minutes of travel time.
Weve enjoyed DTD many times in the past and we kind of rushed through this visit. Normally, we like to ride the mouse boats, stop for some Ghiardelli chocolate and spend a lot of time in each store. This trip, we stopped by the Disney art store for a look and then went over to the Tails Pet Store hoping to find a unique gift for our 5 month old puppy back home.
I was very disappointed in the store. It had the same exact items that we had seen condensed into one rack at most gift shops throughout WDW. Can you believe that they didnt have a nice WDW squeaky toy for a dog? The squeaky toys that they had were a surfboard and some other thing that didnt even have the word Disney anywhere on it!
We had to settle for a bag of dog biscuit treats and a new food dish. I guess with the shop being new, we can hope to expect a larger assortment of items in the future.
We then went to the World of Disney store and loaded up on some gifts. We spent enough to get the Limited Edition Lithograph for $5 which was pretty cool. The CM had us look for the hidden Mickey in the picture (which we found with some hints) and gave us a couple of trivial items about the print: One character pictured on it did not sign it and there is one name that is signed twice. Its a pretty big print and will look awesome once we get it framed.
DD ended up with Lady, Pluto, Sorcerer Mickey, Animal Kingdom Minnie and a nice tiger that she got at the Animal Kingdom. Looks like weve got enough animals to play Fantasmic over and over again once we arrived back home!
It was time to head back already .we didnt even get to visit the toy store (which we love), but had purchased enough to fulfill our Disney fix for a long time to come.
The bus back to POP stopped at Pleasure Island and at Typhooon Lagoon again (why twice?) before finally arriving back at the resort.
We grabbed some food from the POP food court (see dining review) and I picked up a couple more items from the gift shop there.
With bags in tow and a full stomach, we got in the car for the first time in six days. It was 2:02 pm and we had to make our way back to Atlanta. I have to say that I didnt want to pull out. We had so much fun at every single place that we went to. Our vacation was full of more magic than we could ever have expected. Who knew that leaving could be such sweet sorrow?
But our heads were held high and no tears were cried that day for we had conquered the World ..just me and my daughter.
A post report featuring our best of lists and a link to over 300 pictures will follow shortly. Thanks a lot for taking the time to read my reports, I hope you had as much fun reading them as I did writing them. It was nice to finally contribute after reading so many great posts from all of you.
