how long do these suckers last?
This one is in a wierd spot...usually I get them on the inner rim of my eyelid (part that touches my eye)...this one is UNDER my lower lash line and it's a big bump. I've ditched my contacts and am wearing my glasses (getting many compliments on them too funny enough...)

Besides a warm compress...what else can I put on it?

DD, 6, gets these quite a bit. Her ped just tells us to put a warm compress on it as much as possible. It can take up to a week for the sty to go away. They are very painful for her too. She has play makeup and cannot use it at all anymore as a sty will appear within a day of using it. Do you wear make up? Have you stopped putting on eye make up once the sty appeared?

well, i never really put makeup on my lower eyelid...but i'm still wearing "gentle" mascara on my upper lashes and eyeshadow.

(if you tell me to toss all my makeup...DH will have a fit...hehehe...I have a FILLED fishing tacklebox full of makeup...it'll cost big $$$$$$$$ to replace. heheh)

I've had these before...but it's been so long really.

Hi. I have heard of a cold used tea bag. And growing up I knew my cousin always got them, she has used a normal kitchen metal spoon, placing on for a few minutes at a time. I think theres something in the metal that helps get rid of them.
Abyone else heard of a spoon?

Your doctor can prescribe an antibacterial ointment that might help clear it up.

And you need to toss all the eye makeup, sorry. If you are getting sty's on a regular basis, it's possible the makeup is contaminated. Switch to all hypoallergenic makeup, and replace the mascara every month. You also need to wash all your makeup brushes in warm soapy water on a monthly basis. A hairdryer set on low can help them dry a little faster.

Hope you feel better--those things HURT! (I've only had two in my entire life and hope I never get another)

Anne

I used to wear contacts (yes they were clean, sometimes even brand new) and I would always get a sty and sometimes it lasted an entire MONTH! No more contacts for me. I hate stys

Here is a cyber dime ($0.10) put it in your pocket.

I am buying your sty.

My mom always gave me a dime and told me she was buying my sty. I'd go to bed and get up the next morning and it would be gone. :confused3

Somehow it always worked. We'll see if it works via the net. :teeth:

That's a cute story :) It's a miserable rainy day and it made me smile. Thanks!

hehe...i'll let ya know tomorrow!

This is probably the first sty I've gotten in 2 or 3 years...so it's definetly not my makeup.

a gold wedding band on it. Mom used to swear by it.

Styes are so painful! HOpe it gets better soon.

I have heard the tea bag trick will help.

herc.

I've had 2 of these in the last six months. I was told to not wear makeup and throw my eye makeup away. The last sty I had I bought some cream over the counter at Walgreens (with the eye care stuff) - the second one went away quicker than the first one.

So stop peeing alongside the road. :teeth:

I always keep a tube of emycin ointment on hand and on the rare occasion I get one that clears it up in a day or two. I agree you should toss the mascara or anything you've used since you've had the stye - if it wasn't contaminated before, it is now :teeth: sorry.

the last time I got a sty i put antibotic cream on it before I went to bed and by the next morning it was practically gone...

Same here! And, strangely, it seems to work!

I've only had a sty once in my life ~ long ago when I was a kid. But I still remember my mother boiling a washcloth, letting it cool off a little but it was still hot, and having me hold it against the sty. I did this all day long, while watching cartoons. The next morning it was almost gone. She said the wet heat was drawing the infection out. I don't know about that, but it did work.

My daughter got special eye drops from her doctor. It dissipated within a couple of days. I think they were an antibiotic eye drop.

DD gets these all the time. Her doctor told me to wash her eye with Johnson & Johnson baby shampoo, from the inner eye out, never rub back and forward, until it's gone. By doing that it usually only lasts 2 days.

Before using the baby shampoo they would last anywhere from a week to a month.
