Your Cast of Characters:
Me, 44 year old mother & grandmother: Planner & financier of this trip who ate PB&J & bologna sandwiches and did rewards programs for ten months saving for the trip.
DD, Jess, 28: Poster child for premenstral syndrome and offical spoiler of trip. Seriously, she gets pms BAD & won't take medicine.
DGD, Skye, 7 turning 8 11/15: The most well behaved, sweetest granddaughter any grandmother could ask for. Loves rollercoasters.
Sunday October 27th:
I had planned on us trying out some of those yummy cinnomon rolls at Tusker House, but before we went to bed the night before, Skye said she'd like to get room service for breakfast. So we filled out the menu that AKL provided and hung it on the door the night before. I ordered French Toast, Jess had scrambled eggs & bacon & Skye ordered Timon's Breakfast which was pancakes, gummy worms, & bacon.
All rested up from an early night we woke before Mickey's call. I jumped in the shower so I could be out to take care of paying when room service came. I had purchased some eucalyptus spearment aromatheropy (relax) body wash & lotion from Bath & Body Works special just for the trip. This fact has no bearing on this story at all but the fragrance is wonderful. I was all soaped up when I hear Jessica yelling over the shower, "Mom, the camera's not working...I just tried to take a picture of the ostriches and it won't work." I was pretty proud of that camera. I'd bought it (an $85 camera...expensive for a camera to me because I'm not a camera person and usually buy the one time use ones) at Walmart for $30 because it had been a display one, but never used. On top of that, I used $30 in Walmart giftcertificates I'd gotten from doing rewards programs so that made it free.
When I finished my shower I checked the camera....it was out of film, that's all.
Room service knocked with our breakfast. She young lady layed the tray on the table then proceeded to tell me that they couldn't charge the meal to my room because I wasn't set up for charging.
Let me say that I was angry, but I did not take it out on the girl. I told her that I was indeed set up for charging and she asked to use our phone then called and got it okayed. Of course Jessica had to pipe in with "This is a bunch of s..t!" Of course I had to agree with her because it was beginning to me more than a minor pain.
Now we can sit down to enjoy our breakfast. There were lots of animals in our savanna this morning...as there were every morning. I was looking forward to sipping my coffee ($5 bucks for a pot and I'm the only coffee drinker) and watching the animals before our day at Animal Kingdom. "Nana, there's a hair in my pancakes!" Sure enough, there it was all black and curley (we're all blonds so it wasn't ours) and cooked into the cake not just on it...as if that makes a difference. I called roomservice and they sent more pancakes pronto. Skye mentioned that she didn't get the gummy worms that were supposed to come with the pancakes too. I said, "Yeah, but you got a hair instead, okay. What else do you want, geesh." We all cracked up which lightened up the room which was getting tense again. The breakfast was almost $60 and we didn't eat hardly anything. After the hair, everyone, myself included couldn't help but examine our bites before we took them.
Okay, it's off to Animal Kingdom. I have to say that the bus service was excellent the whole trip. We never waited more than 5 or 10 minutes for a bus the whole time. Jess couldn't believe people actually complain on the boards about the bus service. We arrived at AK before opening and saw the talking tree. We headed to the safari first thing and we all enjoyed that very much. We did the trail beside the safari next then we decided that we were hungry already so we stopped for our second breakfast of the day at Tusker House where we got the sweet rolls we should've stuck with in the first place.
Afterwards, we stopped and Skye got her face painted a beautiful blue & green butterfly with glitter. I had to pay in the shop across the street so while I was there, I picked up a backscratcher for my father (he loves those things) and a straw hat for myself. And you guessed it, the card wouldn't work again. While waiting for the CM to call and okay the purchase, this man behind me was getting impatient and was literally breathing down my neck. I was aggravated and embarrassed already about the charging thing so I turned and calmly asked the man to "back up, give me my space and quit breathing down my neck." Well, Disney missed out that day. I could've done some more shopping at a couple places there, but was afraid to. I vowed to close the charge and just pay as I went as soon as I got back to the resort.
We stopped and watched the African drummers for a while, then went to see It's Tough to be a Bug. As we were entering our row the theatre this woman with two children wipped her head around and said "We're supposed to get glasses?" Which, I would've missed them too because when you're walking in with the crowd you can't see them sitting there for the people. She had a little boy in her arms and a little girl around age 4 and before I new what was happening, she'd left her little girl with us (she was still carrying the boy) to go get the glasses. The little girl was scarred and started screaming bloody murder. We tried to calm her but she didn't want to be calmed. Her mother didn't take long though, but I don't think I would've left mine like that, even for a minute. Oh, well, the show was cute again. Skye insisted on sitting on my lap so she wouldn't get stung.LOL
Skye's favorite at AK last year was the Boneyard, so she wanted to return. Jess went with her and I rested on a bench instead of the shopping I would've normally been doing if I hadn't been cursed with bad charging karma.
I couldn't believe it....I'd been tighter than Jake's hatband for 10 long months saving so I could spend, spend, spend on vacation and here I am with bad charging karma.
When the girls came out of the boneyard, we sat and decided what to do next. It was already going on 1 o'clock and I felt we hadn't accomplished much in our touring. What we had seen, we'd really took our time to explore though, which is what I wanted to do this time. We had already decided to skip Kali River Rapids because Skye's face paint would come off with water. I wanted to see the Flights of Wonder show and Festival of the Lion King, but both shows were over thirty or fourty minutes away and it was already hotter than blue blazes. We decided to go back to the resort so Skye could get a hairwrap. We needed a bathroom stop first....I was at the basin washing my hands and looked in the mirror catching Skye coming out of the stall. She was all sweaty and before I could stop her she raised her little arm and wiped her face from her sleeve hem to her wristbone...her face paint was now on her arm. She was sooo mad at herself. I told her she would've wanted to get in the pool anyway...at least we got a picture.
Back at the resort, I headed to the front desk to offically close our charging privilages hoping to end the bad shopping karma while Jess & Skye went to get thier bathing suits on. The nice Mark CM appologized and talked me out of closing it out & gave me another new card. I found out I only had $75 left on it anyway so I'd wait & see what happened before I added more money to it anyway.
We got burgers at Mara that we couldn't finish. At the pool, Skye got her hairwrap while we talked to the hairwrap CM's girlfriend who was from Henderson, KY and was in the Disney college program. We used to live in Henderson and Jess was born there. Skye's father & grandparents live there now and she knew Skye's grandfather because he's a guidance counselor at the high school. She also knew Jess's half sister who lives there. Small world. The hairwrap CM was telling Jess that she should go to downtown Disney because women drink free at House of Blues from such & such time to around 10pm I think. I wanted to kick him.
They swam & I chilled out in the room then took a shower. We had a PS at San Angel Inn for 6 o'clock. I had kinda wanted to get there around 4 or so to do a couple things in Future World on the way to World Showcase. We ended up getting there around 5 and got to do Spaceship Earth and get a FP for Test Track.
Our dinner at San Angel Inn was delicious...even with just getting over the cold I could taste this food. Jess & I decided to split a meal since we've been wasting so much food since we arrived. We're not used to eating three full meals a day. Afterwards, we did some shopping and Skye started her kidscot mask thingy and I bought her a passport to fill. I ended up buying Jess a silver braclet there too. The bad charging karma was gone and was able to go over the amount I had in the account by $12!
I hated to walk back to Test Track to ride but I know how hard it is to get to ride that ride so we went. We gave our FP's up and went in....and stood, and stood and stood. You guessed, it was down. They gave us our FP's back that was good until June???that's what he said. We walked back to Mexico and enjoyed Illuminations from a nice seat by the lake. Skye and I saw it last year but this was Jess's first time....we all loved it.
We went back to the resort and turned in early. The next day is the girl's Discovery Cove day!
