Relaxing Day

We’d planned to have a non-park day today and have a bit of a lie in. Ha. The families from hell have arrived next door and further along the building some-where. Waaaay before 8am there was running and shouting outside the room and loud knocking on the door next door. Keep your voices down!! (this was the only noisy morning – the parks must have worn them out!)

When they’d departed for the day (woo hoo) we dozed off for a bit longer. The nights are really catching up!

We had breakfast at Denny’s and nipped into Goodings at Crossroads for lunch-time sandwiches.

We spent all day by the pool and had lunch back in the room.

Having read about Sweet Tomatoes that’s where we headed for dinner.

We’ve never been on International Drive at night – it was SO busy. I’m glad we went because I saw some places I’d read about – Wonderworks, Skull Kingdom, Ripley’s Believe it or Not – but it’s not somewhere I’d want to stay if that’s how busy it gets!

Anyway, on with dinner – when we eventually got there!

Sweet Tomatoes is on the corner of International Drive and Kirkman Road. As I’m sure many before us have done, and many after us will do, we turned left into Kirkman Road. There is NO entrance from Kirkman Road – you just get further away! We ended up on the Florida Turnpike for a few miles until we spotted the service area – thankfully because we needed fuel! Now this service area is placed in the middle of the 2 directions of traffic – this seemed strange at first but then we realised it was wonderfully logical. After all, only one service area is needed rather than 2, one either side, or one with a bridge from the other side. Enough of my ramblings! The other advantage, of course, is that we were able to go round the service area and join the Turnpike on the other side – thus eventually leading us to Sweet Tomatoes. We asked for directions when we went to pay for the fuel, I’m not saying lots of folk get caught out with this, but the man had a pile of little slips of paper with the directions printed on them for getting back to Int’l Drive!

Sweet Tomatoes was one of the best meals we’ve had this holiday – hate to say it but we all preferred it to Boma’s if we had to make a choice.

There was a HUGE salad bar, 2 pizzas, 3 pastas, 6 soups, baked potatoes, sweet potatoes, 2 types of bread - I absolutely loved the cornbread  and loads of desserts:- frozen yogurt, chocolate lava cake, muffins, brownies oh and some fruit ;) Not bad for just under $38.

We would go again but our waistlines really could not take it – we need to fit into our clothes for the return journey home!

When we arrived back in our room the kids went straight to bed with the TV on and we, being sensible parents that we are, went for a walk round the resort.

im glad you had a rest day here...im worn out reading it so you MUST have needed a rest :rotfl2:

Enjoyed reading your report ~ Thanx for posting.

Will need to try "Sweet Tomatoes" one day.

That's what we found when we tried to find Cracker Barrel after a day at IOA - ended up navigating home by using the sun (because of the strange road labeling - if a N-S road turns sharp right all of a sudden its labeled W-E!) and ended up at the CB we'd visited before because we knew how to get to that one! :flower:

I wanted to try Sweet Tomatoes but were never in the right place at the right time to try it. Still it is a good excuse to go again.

We stayed right up at The Rosen Centre at the Sea World end of International Drive and it wasn't busy at all. It is a beautiful hotel which I would recommend to you.

We avoided driving up IDrive because I knew it could get busy but there is a back road Universal Boulevard which we used all of the time to get up to Universal/IoA.

I really liked seeing what you had to say about Sweet Tomatoes, thanks. :)

Bev we did Sweet Tomatoes again last week :) oh I hate being back!

DH, DD & I really enjoyed it but DS didn't like much of the savoury food, he had a jacket spud n cheese and ice-cream and muffins. To be honest we weren't bothered that he didn't eat loads - I think it cost us just over $3 for his dinner.

Thanks. I am determined to go next July (just booked up today, yes! :cool1: ) it sounds just like my type of restaurant. We did actually see it a couple of times but it was at the wrong time for us.

I know what you mean about hating being back. I was all right for a few days and then the depression hit me for a couple of days. The only remedy is to book another holiday so we sat down and worked things out and fortunately we can go back again as long as we budget.
