We left our home in chilly Long Island at 7:00 AM to avoid the rush hour traffic to the airport (LaGuardia). Well, no traffic and we were at the airport 3 hours before our flight. This made DH really unhappy (he hates flying). As we approached the gate for our flight we noticed large crowds of young girls with a few adult chaparones. CHEERLEADERS. Two different squads - flying with us to MCO. Oh the horror. Mike was now certain that our flight sould be noisy and unenjoyable. MJ didn't seem to mind as the girls were smiling at him, too cute. Angela (who is a cheerleader herself) was standing behind the squads trying to do their cheers as they practiced. (another too cute).
Finally took off at a little before 11 AM (Song Airlines - awesome) and were promptly seated right in front of a large group of cheerleaders from New Rochelle. Mike was sure that this would be a miserable start to our trip but to our delight the girls were quiet the whole entire flight - most even slept the whole way.
Landed at MCO and was greeted by Jerry, our drive from Tiffany Town Cars. Nice Gentleman, retired military, spoke highly of his family and even told us he'd be moving to Alaska to be with one of his sons. Jerry got us to Port Orleans French Quarter in what seemed to be only minutes. Well, it was before 3 o'clock and when we checked in and got our tickets (CM was Ken from Hong Kong - very nice) we were told our room was not ready yet and to check back in a 1/2 hour. Mike took the kids to walk around the resort a little, check out the pool, game room etc. It was rather chilly too, only 55 degrees. We got spoiled last year with almost perfect weather (75 degrees and warmer the whole trip).
After checking with the front desk a few times we finally got our room. Room #2236 overlooking the pool. Turn your head to the right and you can see the Sassagoula River and the boat dock. Perfection.
Mike immediately tried the bed out and came to the realization that he would need more piillows. One phone call to Mousekeeping and less than 5 minutes later 2 extra pillows arrived followed nicely by our luggage.
Everyone washed up, changed clothes and started to ask - "What are we doing know?" I, being the superplanner that I am, had a PS for 7:00PM at San Angel in EPCOT. Well, I was immediately shot down by my kids who insisted that we go MK right away. Off to the buses we head.
We arrive at MK just as the sun starts to go down and all the lights begin to turn on. Completely magic (and wickedly cold). I still get a chill turning the corner of Main Street and seeing the Castle. Too bad the walls were up around Walt and Mickey. I took our first picture there last year and wanted to do the same this year. There's alway next year.
Angela and I proceeded to by sweatshirts as we both now had goosebumps. Off the POC, a family favorite followed by HM. Following that we head over to Tommorrowland - SPACE MOUNTAIN. Angela finally makes 44 inches this year and could hardly wait to get on. Mike made sure he was seated behind her and held onto her sweatshirt the entire ride. I asked her how she liked it and said it would have been a thousand times better if Dad hadn't nearly chiked her to death with her shirt, LOL.
Hunger sets in rapidly as we are walking over to Buzz so we stop and buy a Turkey Leg...........It was amazing. Last year the one we bought was really fatty and we were turned off a bit, but this year......AWESOME. We ended up buying a second one. (A few more during the trip too.) After Buzz we head back to the buses...WHAT - you didn't stay for WISHES. We like to save that for our last night, just a perfect way to end the whole trip.
Everyone, except for me, fell fast asleep after watching Krista and the Seven Most See Attractions at WDW. I organized the room and prepared my knapsack for the next days adventure - Disney/MGM Studios.
More to follow.
