Hey Ladies,

For all those from the US, I have a question. How does David's Bridal work? Do you walk out with the dresses, or do you get measured and go back?

My BM's want to go to Buffalo and look there, (we all live in diff Ontario cities) but my MOH lives closer to Detroit, so it would be a long journey for her. I don't want to have to go back there twice, so I just wanted to know before we decide to go!

We would just be looking for BM dresses, and I will see if I can find a $99 gown for myself for "trash the dress" since I spent too much to trash mine :rotfl:

Hey! David's bridal NORMALLY works like this... you go in pick out your dress, order the appropriate size, go back and pick it up when it comes in. This is how I've always had to do it. HOWEVER, when i picked out my wedding dress, it fit me so perfectly the sales lady let me walk out with it that day, no ordering necessary! So, if your one bm wants to go to Detroit to order the dress she'll be able to get the same thing as the ladies going to Buffalo. but regardless, you'll probably have to go twice.

Yes me and my cousin are both planning weddings. When I went in with my bridesmaids, we had to order everything, even the jr bridesmaids dresses.

My cousin went in and bought her dress off the rack.

But her bridesmaid's are in the light pink color and they didn't have all the dresses in that color and their size, so they had to order them.

So basically the saleslady told us that if they have your dress in your color and size you can take it that day. If you need to get the dress altered in anyway, then you, of course, have to go back. If you purchase a bridal dress from the oleg cassini line, then they will not sell you one from "off the rack". But I think my cousin's was an oleg cassini and she got a marked down rack dress.

The one by Detroit doesn't have a car, and we are both scared for life from Detroit (we used to go there to watch hockey games, and we would cheer for calgary...and apparently Detroit doesn't have much love for Canadians :rotfl:)

I guess we will check around here!! Thanks so much for responding, I'm glad I asked before going!!

For dresses they have in the right size/color you walk out with it that day.

Although if you need to order a bridesmaid dress (most are) you'll need to give them 3-4 months. I'm going to be in a wedding in March and was told I need to order by mid October.

I used to work for David's Bridal when I was in college. For the most part it is meant to be an off the rack store, as in, if they have it in your size and it fits you are encouraged to buy that dress. They can order the dress, but it is not necessarily a brand new dress from the warehouse (although it usually is) it could come from another store.

For BM dresses, those usually are ordered since it would be hard to find the number you need in all the right sizes in the right color. Although you could buy one off the rack if they had it in stock.

For your BM's, you can have them try on the dress at different stores, so let's say you go shopping with BM 1&2, you like dress A, B and C. Moh goes to try on dress A, B & C in Detriot. You don't have to go with her, but you may need pics of her in the dress to make up your mind. When you order the dresses, make sure you order them FROM THE SAME STORE. Sorry for all caps, but that is so important. The dye lot may be different if you don't and the shades won't be exactly the same. Also if there is a problem with the order, no one will notice until it's too late.

My best friend got her BM dresses from David's, all her BM's ordered them from their local store. The day of the wedding they realized that one of the BM's dresses was the wrong color, it was wine instead of cranberry! They are completely different shades. They had to find a David's on the day of the wedding. They did not have the dress in the right size and color. Luckily all her BM's were the same size, so her MOH gave her dress to the BM and they got a new dress for the MOH in a different style. But you don't want to have that happen on your wedding day.

If they had ordered from the same store, the Bride or a BM would have picked up the dresses and realized the problem right away.

Don't take offense, I don't think Red Wings fans have love for anyone, they don't like Bruins fans any better!!:lmao:

HHHAHAHAH!! Yah, being in Detroit wearing an opposing jersey was a call for trouble.

On the plus side, they had a nice loss this year, it was the highlight of my summer :rotfl:

Thanks everyone for all the help! I think we decided to go a different route, since 3 of us live more than an hour away from there. Plus, we have to worry about paying duty when we cross the border, which I forgot to think about before. Unfortunately, it means a trip to my least fav city (aside from Detroit)....Toronto.
