davey crockett v Newport

Hi everybody

We want to take out 4 year old daughter and 13 year old son to DP the only accommodation we can find for the time we want to visit is Davey crockett or Hotel Newport. A friend who has previously stayed at Davey crockett says it ok but a bit run down and not very comfortable so Im thinking maybe I should book for the Newport?? any help on this one would be much appreciated. Im a little worried that if we stay in newport we may spend a fortune on food. If you were choosing where would you choose??

It really depends on what you're looking for and when you're going. If you choose the DCR you will need a car as it is about a 10 min drive away and there are no shuttle buses. NB is on site and about a 10-15 walk or free shuttle bus ride. Both have pools.
You get a free breakfast with both but with DCR you do have kitchen facilities and a BBQ so you could prepare meals if you wanted to. If you had a 2 bedroom cabin at DCR you would have two rooms which would be useful if you're be putting your little one to bed early some of the time.

I go give you my point of view I already made several times the 2 hotels and my to prefer is the ranch reason: bungalows, therefore no noise of room of dimensioned the most beautiful swimming pool., full with activity has to make, of the animals, a farm. insulated, calm, barbecue or other (what avoids the restaurants) The newport is sublime, beautiful, right dimensioned disney, but more expensive. do not hesitate if you want information, I work has disney and know the hotels very well

As you can see from my signature we love Davy Crockett. We started staying there as it was accomodation for 5 of us.

On our last visit we only took DD & youngest DS both teenagers, they choose to visit DCR as at an hotel they would have had to share a bed. We choose one of the newer 2 bedroom cabins & it was great. & we found it very comfortable. We enjoy the fact that you have somewhere other than your bed to sit & relax on an evening. There is also a picnic bench outside the cabin where you can sit outside with a glass of vin rouge on a nice evening. As Poohmad mum says it's much easier with a younger child if you have a separate bedroom.

The 2 bedroom cabin had 1 room with double bed
1 room with bunk beds
& a double fold out sofa in the lounge.

We definately don't think it's run down but have never stayed at a DLP hotel.

We love the pool & have been told it's one of the best on site

hi we went to the newport bay last yea with a four year old and in a few weeks we are going again but staying at the davy crockett ranch instead as we wanted more facilites thi syear than the newport offered us.

better sleeping arrangements for 4 adults and a child and somewhere to relax once our daughter has gone to bed insyead of sitting in the same room as her, which happened in the hotel. better pool area, we hope, and more self catering facilites as we felt the food on offer was very espensive and no where to get a cuppa after a long day in the park.

looking forward to the outside areas at the davy crockett and the bbq area and parking.

can probably tell you more of our opinion after we have come home and can compare our 2 trips in different accommodation.

If you want to be near to the parks then NPB is the better option.
If you want space and don't mond driving DCR is the best option.

As with Sue having been to DCR before it is our first choice of destination.

We just got home from our trip, and I would never, NEVER stay at the Newport again. The price is astronomical for what you get.

We had a family room, which meant we were on the Admirals Floor, and I was thoroughly disappointed with the accommodations. The beds were rock hard, and the sofa bed was worse. The room was spacious enough to accommodate queen size beds, but we had doubles.

The wallpaper was peeling in several places. There were curtains that were off their hooks. There was mold on the tiles in the tub; it was disgusting. The pool was noisy and unimpressive (no slide!!).

About the best thing about it was the separate check in area for concierge-level guests.

Several of the items I'd prearranged through the concierge service were messed up; the time we'd booked for Walt's wasn't available (and instead of telling us they'd booked us a half hour earlier, we were bluntly told that we had no reservation and if we'd like another, go to the concierge desk), the balloon 'surprise' I'd arranged for my daughter was nowhere to be found on our records (it worked out well after I checked on it and it was then put into our record).

It was NOTHING what I think an upscale Disney property should be. There is no comparison between this experience and any of the WDW resorts where we've stayed. All the California Disney properties are run better.

And to pay to ride the cute themed little shuttle train that goes around the lake between the hotels and the village? Absurd.

I don't mind spending money if it's money well spent. But the Newport was not that, for us. I am used to Disney properties exceeding my expectations, and this one fell so far short that I was aghast.

All that said...

We *thoroughly* enjoyed Disneyland. It is a very beautiful park. We loved the dragon under the castle--it was a great effect. And the Big Thunder *rocks*!! We would visit this park again, given the right time/circumstances, but we would stay at the Explorers Hotel--no question. We had a birthday party for my daughter at the Plaza Gardens one afternoon, and that was very well done; she was delighted. We enjoyed many of the aspects that are unique to this park, different from WDW or our 'home' park of Disneyland in California. We had a lovely time at DLP, absolutely!!

Legoland had been on our agenda, but thanks to some horrific traffic on our way to Stratford upon Avon last Thursday, we were unable to see the places we'd wanted to visit. So those places were put off until Saturday morning because we alredy had tickets to Warwick Castle on Friday. We ended up going on a Shakespeare sightseeing whirlwind in Stratford before going to Stonehenge just before it closed for the day...and we left early on Sunday morning! We were sorry to miss Legoland, but it just didn't make sense to go all the way to Stratford and only see King Lear (which was excellent, btw) and not any of the historic places.

we`ve now stayed at Davy crockett,disneyland hotel and N.B and to be honest they all have the pros and cons-DLH-it was amazing and the rooms were Huge but we felt it was a lot more money than the others which really you`re paying for the location
N.B- we thought was on a par with DLH,rooms slightly smaller and we had a family room -ok so location is not as good but if you`re at the village its as far to either hotel
Davy Crockett-We loved this place ,just hated the drive and are seriously considering hiring a car at disney(noticed the hertz rental place at teh station)just to stay there,its only 10 mins from the park but the advantage of putting kids to bed and shutting the door,putting the kettle on ,having a fridge ,ect were great and the price!
But anyway thats just my opinion and everyone has diff requirements and expectations!
