DAS return time Q

I'm not sure if I'd be eligible for a DAS, so have been planning my trip around not having one. However, I wanted to ask if using the DAS can make some people wait longer or have I misunderstand? Say the standby queue is 50 mins and your return time is 40 mins, might you end up waiting in the FP queue for 15/20 mins? I've never been to WDW, only Disney Paris, where the system was very different.

Yes, it is possible. Of course, it is also possible that the FP will be less than 10 minutes, so you end up waiting less than other people. I think that some FP queue's tend to be more "risky" than others (though, of course, glitches everywhere can cause FP queues to back up).

If, when you come back to use your DAS time, the FP is long, you can always come back later (something we've done a couple of times).

Thanks for the reply. So, if you cannot make your DAS return time e.g. maybe you feel unwell, you can get another one?

The DAS return time is open-ended (unlike a FP), so no need to get a new one. Though, if you want one for a different ride, you can cancel the current one and get a new one.

I'd check out the stickie here - http://disboards.com/threads/wdw-di...15-digital-das-on-tickets-magicbands.3178976/ Lot's of good information (just read Sue's first posts - the discussion is from when the DAS first started and there have been a lot of changes, so a lot of it no longer applies).

You could wait longer then the posted time. I have also heard that some time the posted time is really longer then the standby time is.

Also you can leave any lines some are easer then others to leave. So I you have to get out of the line you can

This is definitely possible. There are times I'm quite certain we've waited longer for a ride using the DAS than anyone going in the standby line because the standby wait time was inflated. However, even if we are having to wait longer, the DAS is still a benefit to us as we really need to minimize the time actually standing in the queues. So I'd rather wait 10 minutes longer than someone going through the standby line just so we aren't in a noisy, crowded place for the entire time.

I have found that for some rides, depending on your needs, you can wait quite a long time longer than the posted standby time. Take TSMM for instance. The regular line might be an hour, but you have the DAS and need the wheelchair accessible vehicle. You come back after 50 minutes and might have to wait another hour for your turn with that vehicle. While it might not be common, it has happened to our party before. If you don't require an accessible vehicle, then you shouldn't have issues other than mentioned above (where standby wait is less than the posted wait time).

Thanks for indulging my curiosity. I think (and hope) I have planned enough to not even need to ask for a DAS. I'd like this trip to be as 'normal' as possible. I am already struggling with having to use an ECV but I've paid for it now, so I don't want to back out and waste money, haha!

I found the DAS new system to be a little frustrating on my last trip. They hook it up to your magicband so they wouldn't allow me to 'sign up' for a return time if I had ANY unused fast passes...even though all my FP were in the afternoon. And yes many times the return time was longer. I ended up only using it during extra magic hours they were nicer about it. Getting the important FP is way more useful IMO.

Were you trying to get return times at the rides or the FP+ booth for the DAS? If you were at the FP+ booth then they would not as they do notnissue DAS return time. If it was at the ride entrance, they should have issued the DAS holder a return time unless they already had a DAS time for another attraction that they had not used yet.

That doesn't make any sense. They're completely separate systems and you're able to fully utilize both. Can you elaborate?

Yes, exactly.
We have had 3 unused Fastpases and a DAS Return Time many times and the Disney website encourages using DAS and Fastpass together.

A little more information would be very helpful.
Without knowing more, my thought is that the poster may have gone to one of the Fastpass kiosks at WDW, trying to get a DAS Return Time.
At WDW, DAS Return Times can't be given out at the kiosks, so the CM at the kiosk would be applying 'Fastpass rules' to schedule another Fastpass. All 3 of the pre-scheduled Fastpasses must be before another Fastpass can be issued.
After all 3 have been used, more Fastpass times can be scheduled, one at a time. When one gas been used, the next can be scheduled.
