I'm close, oh so close to picking up a resale for Saratoga, but yet something in the back of my mind says to wait until they announce the new Contemporary DVC building. You know what they say, Location, Location, Location and I'm afraid if I pick up SSR and then what happens if I really like the Contemporary?. I just wish they would hurry up and announce it so we can see if it will be out of the price range of a mere mortal. I really like the look of Saratoga, but the Contemp may blow it away. I'm so cornfused. /rant:headache:

Ah, just buy both :) Remember, unless you are traveling at a peak time, you still opportunity to stay at places other than your home resort. If your heart is set on the potential of a Contemporary wait it out. Just remember cost per point does go up a little each year. I also think so long as there are AKV and SSR properties to be sold they aren't going to announce much more expansion beyond Hawaii and California in fear of saturating the market with supply.

I think that's the exact reason they don't announce it - they want to sellout SSR first because it would be more difficult if CRV were announced.

Buy a small resale now, so you can buy at the Contemporary with no closing costs because you're already a member! You can be visiting WDW and posting pictures while everyone is waiting for the Contemporary DVC to be announced. If I really wanted the Contemporary, that's what I would wait for.

I agree that any CRV announcement, if there is one, will be at least until AKV and SSR sales are further along, and until Kidani is open and fully completed. I think that Kidani opening will position AKV as one the most in demand DVC resorts which will have advantages to some that make it more appealing than CRV.

I also agree that any of us who are interested in staying at a potential CRV will have the opportunity.

So buy resale or buy new through DVC. There is an opportunity cost in not buying. In the next couple of years, when there is no CRV, you could enjoy, 2,3, 4, or more DVC vacations at a lower per point cost.

Oooh! Can you do that? I've also been wondering about buying a small resale but thought I read somewhere that you had to have a full 160 point (or more) contract to be able to buy more points direct from Disney.

The smallest add on is 25 points, so there are some resale contracts for 25 points. Once you are in the system, Disney has sold members add-ons even if those add-ons didn't total the 160 with what the member already had. Perhaps things could change, but there's been no indication that it already has. You could pay a premium for those initial 25 points via resale, the market for the smaller contracts seems to be HOT!

There is, of course, no guarantee there will even be a CRV. If there is, DVC has at least two reasons not to announce it now. First, it figures, most likely correctly, that announcing CRV could slow sales at SSR and AKV and it could actually be planning to do little "pre-sales" there but start selling close to completion date which will likely be sometime in latter part of 2009. Second, we now have an uncertain economy that could be down for some time and DVC could hold off on CRV for some time to see how bad sales of AKV and SSR might be affected and how long a a bad period there might actually be. DVC, even it currently intends a CRV can change its mind, particularly if economic conditions stay down for a substantial period of time. For those who have been DVC members for a number of years, that is exactly what did happen after 9/11. In spring 2001, DVC announced a new DVC at the Bonnet Creek golf courses area (Osprey and Eagle Pines). After 9/11, with the economy in the tank and visitors to Disney substantially down, the Bonnet Creek DVC died. Instead, DVC ultimately announced SSR instead; the down economic period made that a good business decision -- Disney Institute was not very popular even before 9/11, after 9/11 it was closed until further notice because of the substantial decrease in visitors to WDW; thus a DVC became the ideal replacement to be built while the economy was coming back. The situation today is not actually the same and since they are building at CR, they have to do something with it, and that something is likely DVC, but nothing is certain.

Thank you everybody for the replies because you bring up some great points. I should just pull the trigger on SSR.

Good luck! Hopefully soon you'll be hearing a big "Welcome Home!"

Yes, I've been looking at small contracts and they go quick! So according to this scenario I could buy a 50 pt resale contract at a sold-out resort and then add on another 25 or 50 points at AKV or CRV thru Disney and not pay closing costs?
