I'm beyond thrilled to have gotten a great Dapper Day rate at the Grand Californian for late April. I booked on the phone, after checking out the website and the festivities sure look fun!

Of course, I'm not "officially" a Dapper Day conventioneer and saw on the reservation that it states: "Only guests that are participating in this Special Event or convention are eligible to use this site in order to get access to the pre-blocked rooms and/or Theme Park Tickets at the special contracted rate."

I don't have anything that states we are participating in the Dapper Dat meet up though. Does anyone have experience with this rate at check in? I'm worried they'll ask for proof or something.

Thanks in advance!
:)

There is no "catch" :thumbsup2
I have used both the Dapper Day and Gay Days rates, there is no verification at check in (or any other confirmation). I do participate by dressing up (and wear red for GD).
Gay Days requires at least one day of the actual GD weekend in the reservation (added a few years ago), and Dapper Day may have a similar rule.

The 1-night deposit is non-refundable, which might be a new rule.

I agree with what Nonsuch posted , except the non-refundable part. The website states that the one night deposit is non-refundable but when I booked over the phone , I was told I would be refunded if I cancelled at least 5 days prior to arrival. I have never cancelled so I don`t know how valid this is. I have been misinformed more than once over the phone by CMs, most recently when I bought an AP and tried to pay it down with gift cards.

The Park Hoppers you will get will have dates printed on them limiting their use for only the time around the Dapper Day convention, and valid only for 13 or 14 days after first use. That`s the only restriction surrounding Dapper Days. Most other conventions require registration and proof of membership, but not this one.

The terms of the offer require that a member of your party participate in the convention. Whether or not Disney checks that provision is another story. But it's still a condition of using the rates a tickets that they could use to cancel your reservation if they were so inclined.

I just booked a trip at the GCH during this time as well. Started a thread but didn't get a response. I was wondering how busy it normally is in the parks during the last week of April. Anyway, we plan to attend the expo on Saturday - wouldn't feel right getting the special rate if we didn't actually participate in the event. No doubt they'll soon have to change the restrictions on this due to people taking advantage of it.

If you're taking advantage of the "Dapper Day" (not Dapper Dan) rates, krismom345, why not participate? It's so fun to be part of the large group that will be dressed up. We've done it for the last 3 years and always have a great time! Like Dentam said, it may only be a matter of time before they start enforcing the fact that these rates are intended for people who participate in the event. This years Spring Dapper Day is the same weekend as Bats Day, so expect it to be more crowded than normal.

There is no registration required. You are not required to dress up. Just being in the park during the time frame could meet the participation requirement, IMHO. If anyone asks, just say yes, then go on about .

And THIS is why it will be more enforced soon.

Soon , when ? Fact or just your opinion? The fact is they are not requiring registration for this event, and so far not for Fall 2016 either. If they do require registration, what would that involve? It`s not like the CDA convention later the same week where you have to show photo ID and proof that you are in the Dental field.

From the information stated clearly on their website:

Our Disney park and hotel discounts are in place for guests participating in DAPPER DAY events. Disney may contact guests who book discounted rooms that do not include one of the primary dates of our events, and may cancel those reservations. Out of respect for the park and the other guests we would hope everyone would dress it up a notch, but no one will be policing "dapper" wardrobe.

Do I need to register?

No. We are not a standard convention and have no registration. (The Disney Group Sales websites for our discounted rooms and park tickets may mention requiring that you register with us but you can disregard this as we currently have no registration. Disney is aware of this.) For future events we may begin requiring registration to access certain discounts or events.

The fact that they are not currently able to "police" this is not an excuse to take advantage of their event and to encourage others to do so as well.

As you said, it's your opinion. When Disney has canceled reservations for other conventions they don't ask at check in or once you're there, they cancel in advance. The Gay Days rate, which you frequently advocate abusing has been so abused that they now require registration on their site. Disney may not actively be checking each registration for abuse, but it has become a big enough problem that the documentation has started. When a group wants to schedule an event at Disney, Disney gives the possible dates. If hotel occupancy ever reaches a point where they don't need to offer discounted rooms to events that don't require registration, which step would be better, to actually audit some of the reservations or just stop offering them at all? Once event planners realize that their rates are being abused it would be the smart move to protect their own participants and start requiring some kind of registration. But to say that there are no conditions and never will be only helps to make the rooms unavailable to actual participants and puts people at risk of losing their reservations. There are terms associated with the rate, whether they are consistently enforced is a different issue, but the rules are there.

I personally don't like when people steal the Dapper Day reservations. Because it means people like me who are actually going to be participating in dapper day have a lesser chance at getting a reservation because other people are stealing it. Not cool in my opinion.

That's when all the goths come to Disneyland.

We were there during Bat Day in May 2013 and honestly if you didn't already know ahead of time, you would likely not have known there was even an event that day. We saw a few people dressed up but since I knew it was happening that day I was actually expecting to see more, had I not known I'd of likely just thought it was your random goth person at DLR.
