Dapper Day Rate for April- whats' the catch?

We will be participating and the expo sounds fun. It's a bonus event going on at the parks during our times of travel, so of course I booked with the discounted rate!
Last trip coincidentally coordinated with Gay Days and we wore our red Incredibles shirts in support.

I personally don't like when people steal the Dapper Day reservations.

I`m not stealing anything. We both have equal opportunity to take advantage of the event. Just because I choose not to dress up doesn`t mean I don`t enjoy what`s going on. I think the costumes are great. I just wouldn`t feel comfortable dressed up like that. I`m participating, I`ll visit the Expo since it`s in the GCH where we are staying.

When they require registering, I will register. Unless the make dressing up Mandatory , I won`t.

The Expo is at the Disneyland Hotel, like it was last Sept.

The Gay Days rate, which you frequently advocate abusing has been so abused that they now require registration on their site.

Where did I ever advocate abusing Gay Days? Never did, Never been to one. You make it sound like it was my fault they require registration. Besides, what is the problem with having to register? They don`t charge a fee. Do you have to declare that you are Gay? I don`t think they make it a requirement.

Your original post made it sound like you weren't planning to participate, that's what caused some confusion for some posters. I'm really looking forward to it too! :)

I never said I wasn`t participating. I just won`t dress for it. I was responding to the original post that there are no requirements. Even their website states :Out of respect for the park and the other guests we would hope everyone would dress it up a notch, but no one will be policing "dapper" wardrobe.

I just looked at the website to get the dates. I assumed it was at the GCH

Hey guys, let's stay away from the arguing, please - just let it go. At this time, there are no restrictions, other than what is stated on the website, about anyone taking advantage of the discounted rate. When it becomes important enough to them they will start restricting reservations like they do for other events. People will always take advantage of a bargain when they see it, and sharing the information on the internet just opens these deals up to anyone that frequents Disney focused forums, or who utilize search engines. When Disney asks us to restrict these types of conversations you'll see me shutting down threads/deleting posts.

My comment was a reply to the OP on that point.

Enjoy the event, everyone! We're looking forward to it - if we love it we might make it a tradition to attend during this time!

The Expo used to take place at the Grand, but it's now held at the Disneyland Hotel. Just my opinion, but "participating" in Dapper Day means that you're dressing up and being part of the event. Since dressing up is really what this event is about, I'm not sure how else you would participate? Even people participating in the Expo booths and car show dress up. If you're not dressing for the event but "participating", then that would mean everyone going to Disneyland that day dressed in shorts and a t-shirt would be considered "participating" in Dapper Day, when they really aren't part of the event, and probably don't even know what's going on, right?

Not everyone goes all out to dress up, but a lot of people do. Dapper Day is about dressing your Sunday best, whether you pick the 40's, 50's or 60's, or even contemporary styles. It doesn't have to be vintage, just stylish! It really is fun to be part of the Dapper group, so if you're going to be there, why not join in the fun?!! :D

I agree with what Nonsuch posted , except the non-refundable part. The website states that the one night deposit is non-refundable but when I booked over the phone , I was told I would be refunded if I cancelled at least 5 days prior to arrival...
You are correct. This is the policy for a Mini Gay Days reservation I just made:
Cancel Policy
Please note there is a 1 night deposit required at the time of booking with the credit card used online.

If you or your company need to pre-pay for your room in full, please call us prior to arrival to arrange details with you.

We have a 5 day change and cancel policy at our Resort. If you need to cancel your reservation, please do so at least 5 days prior to your scheduled arrival. Should you cancel within 5 days of arrival, the deposit of one nights rate + tax is not refundable.

Last week someone posted a thread about planning a trip in October and you suggested that they move their dates to take advantage of the Gay Days rate. If the person is not participating in Gay Days, and you don't have to be gay to participate, they're not eligible for the rate. You also shared the ticket link for a convention, which if you've ever booked an event through Disney you'd know there are terms associated with sharing those rates publicly too. What's becoming sad about the Dapper Day rate is that now people who aren't participating are being advised to call the hotel and book rooms before Dapper Days releases that info. So less rooms are available to participants, and people who follow Dapper Days for their info will be shut out if they don't start calling before the rates are released too. Just like the Gays Days situation. People who waited to book a room until the extra event tickets went on sale couldn't get rooms at the convention rate because so many people who weren't even going that weekend booked the rooms.

If Disney or the organizations involved do not enforce rules of participation for accessing discount rates then participants on a forum are not going to gain much traction on this issue. If the organization hears from participants that rules need to be tightened then they can perhaps take action. That is likely the avenue to take as discussing it here won't result in anything but hurt feelings and locked threads.

Good point.

I agree with what Nonsuch posted , except the non-refundable part. The website states that the one night deposit is non-refundable but when I booked over the phone , I was told I would be refunded if I cancelled at least 5 days prior to arrival. I have never cancelled so I don`t know how valid this is. I have been misinformed more than once over the phone by CMs, most recently when I bought an AP and tried to pay it down with gift cards.

Actually, I would not trust what you were told over the phone. I just tried to cancel our Dapper Day reservation and they flat out told me the could NOT refund my deposit.

In my case, I originally booked the PP. When my group decided to switch to DLH I called to switch my reservation. (this is allowable.) It turns out, the group reservations were closed the whole week leading up to New Years (so I was later told by the CM I spoke with.) After repeated calls, my group was concerned that the DLH to would fill up, and as I did not realize that my PP reservation was non cancellable, I booked DLH with the plan of calling after the Holiday and cancelling my PP. I called first thing Monday morning, and the CM told me she could NOT refund my deposit on the PP. I'm not usually very pushy, but I asked her to please go speak with a supervisor.

She came back and asked if I had dancing shoes available: Because only one day was non refundable, they moved my PP reservation to DLH and dropped my second night, and they dropped the first night of my DLH reservation. So, now, for a two night stay, I have two reservations. (which they connected so that I won't have to move rooms.)

I have booked discounted conference rates before and never had them non cancellable. The CM told me that they had to deliberately add that to Dapper Day because the high rate of people that would book, just in case, and then cancel.

Thanks for the information. Looking over my confirmations, shows different policies.
