poohandwendy said:it looks like Sarabi is tri-colored because she appears to be presenting white, red and black...or a dilute version of the above. But, it does appear to be 3 colors.
Yes, tri color equals calico or some variation.
I'm a slow one for sure.
Tigger&Belle said:Wendy, in the picture of Venus in my signature (the bottom picture), I think she looks more like a dilute calico, which is what she was listed as when we got her, at least in one of the descriptions. My vet called her a dilute torbie, because she said she doesn't have enough white. I read and not everyone thinks that the amount of white has anything to do with them being considered a calico or not. One thing is for certain--Venus is a CAT! And a naughty one at THAT!![]()
In this little kitten pic of Belle, you can see that she is a torbie (tortoise/tabby combo). She is now almost 6yo and fat, but in this picture her colorings can be seen better and it's just such a darn cute picture.

Left to right
Kiara, Kovu (he has a bigger white mark on his face), Simba, Sarabi, and the "pillow" is Nala.
They all gained considerable weight between 18 and 31 gms. Simba being the one who gained the most, and is official the "porker" of the bunch at 145 gms, with Kovu in a close second at 136 gm, Kiara 132 gm, and Sarabi and Nala - 126. They both weighed the same yesterday, and weigh the same today!!!

I am in love!!! I shouldn't even be reading this thread! Thank goodness I don't live anywhere near you and am not planning on any more kittens for quite some time or I'd be in deep yogurt!
I would so take Simba and Nala.
If I had it to do all over again, I wouldn't have more than 6 and 5 of those would be females. The males seem to be a lot more maintenance.

poohandwendy said:Wow, awesome weight gain for the ones that gained alot!! And a few of mine did not gain anything the first day....look for more of a pattern over the next few days.
, it really seemed like a lot. The one that gained the most was the one we were originally concerned was not getting enough to eat.... looks like I might be able to return the can of formula!!!

This was taken when she was a lot younger. She getting old, poor thing, and is nearly 13 or so.
To the poster who asked what the perfect number of cats are... less than 16!If I had it to do all over again, I wouldn't have more than 6 and 5 of those would be females. The males seem to be a lot more maintenance.

poohandwendy said:True, lots of varying opinions with the white...but I agree with you, I would be looking more at whether there are patches or blended colors...
I would call Venus a dilute calico too, does she have stripes at all?
Belle is too cute! yeah, you can see the red on her paw and the stripes...she's an easy one.
poohandwendy said:I hereby declare Venus a "Tortico", the first of the 2006 new and improved tri-color variation....
Works for me! Whatever she is, she is trouble! Wonder what she's gotten into today--no doubt there is something...Tigger&Belle said:Works for me! Whatever she is, she is trouble! Wonder what she's gotten into today--no doubt there is something...

I was up early (went to sleep late - not enough sleep...) when Maia decided she wanted Princess to get up and play!
So I figured I would get the morning routine out of the way - turning on coffee, taking dogs out, giving them their morning treat, giving cats their morning treat (canteloupe) when all of a SUDDEN - there is Mommy Daphne on the counter. I guess she needed a break from the nest and was able to push the Mbath door open (double door- top latch not latched) - I instantly was worried that something was wrong that she would leave the babies alone, so I rushed in, and they were all curled up in two groups sleeping soundly. I guess she knew they were full, and warm and safe. I took her food back in and she followed, only to come back out a couple minutes later. She was having a drink of water (she has water in the nest) Kittens still quiet, but by now Tara is up (she slept in my room last night), so she was overseeing the babies! Everyone is back to sleep (except me of course!)'
I noticed this morning that the female that I was considering a tiger cat, I guess genetically would be considered a calico too - her face is white.
Today once Tara is not here, and I can do things without an audience I will try and get some better close ups of each and create a web page for all those who are interested in their progress. (In between working.....)
That's not an issue... I will get them to the airport LOL. I'm closer to the airport than WDW!!
- Vaccinations would be no problem, I would get them prior to the "handoff"
- Approved carriers could be purchased locally as well!
I knew that I had investigated flying with animals prior to moving the FL, but I could not remember all the details, and I know some is specific to individual airlines.
Thanks for the info!
